Stalingrad - today and during the siege ( World War II And Present ) changes comparison
Volgograd 1589–1925, and Stalingrad (Russian: About this sound Сталингра́д, 1925–1961, is an important industrial city and the administrative center of Volgograd Oblast, Russia. It is 80-kilometer (50 mi) long, north to south and is situated on the western bank of the Volga River, after which the city was named. Population: 1,021,215 (2010 Census);[7] 1,011,417 (2002 Census);[12] 1,022,578 (1989 Census).[13]
The city became famous for its resistance during the Battle of Stalingrad against the German Army in World War II. It is often regarded as the largest and bloodiest battle in the history of warfare.
World War II (WWII or WW2), also known as the Second World War, was a global war that lasted from 1939 to 1945, though related conflicts began earlier. It involved the vast majority of the world's nations—including all of the great powers—eventually forming two opposing military alliances: the Allies and the Axis. It was the most widespread war in history, and directly involved more than 100 million people from over 30 countries. In a state of total war, the major participants threw their entire economic, industrial, and scientific capabilities behind the war effort, erasing the distinction between civilian and military resources. Marked by mass deaths of civilians, including the Holocaust (in which approximately 11 million people were killed)[1][2] and the strategic bombing of industrial and population centres (in which approximately one million were killed, and which included the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki),[3] it resulted in an estimated 50 million to 85 million fatalities. These made World War II the deadliest conflict in human history
Wolgograd (russisch Волгоград ?/i), bis 1925 Zarizyn (russ. Царицын ?/i), von 1925 bis 1961 und an Gedenktagen wieder seit dem 2. Februar 2013 Stalingrad (russ.
Волгоград, do roku 1925 Carycyn (ros.
II wojna światowa – największy konflikt zbrojny w historii świata, trwający od 1 września 1939 roku do 2 września 1945 roku (w Europie do 8 maja 1945), obejmujący zasięgiem działań wojennych prawie całą Europę, wschodnią i południowo-wschodnią Azję, północną Afrykę, część Bliskiego Wschodu i wszystkie oceany. Niektóre epizody wojny rozgrywały się nawet w Arktyce i Ameryce Północnej. Poza większością państw europejskich i ich koloniami, brały w niej udział państwa Ameryki Północnej i Ameryki Południowej oraz Azji. Głównymi stronami konfliktu były państwa Osi i państwa koalicji antyhitlerowskiej (alianci). W wojnie uczestniczyło 1,7 mld ludzi, w tym 110 mln z bronią[1]. Według różnych szacunków zginęło w niej od 50[2] do 78[3] milionów ludzi.

Mamayev kurgan used to be a nameless hill marked on military-topographic maps as a height - 102,0. This hill was the main link in the general system of defence of Stalingrad front. This place became key position in the battle of Stalingrad. Soviet and German troops fought a fierce battle on its slops at the end of the 1942 year.

Video shows man leaving club with women he 'raped and fed to dogs'
CCTV footage has emerged of a convicted rapist leaving a karaoke club with two women who police say he later stabbed to death and dismembered. Officers are investigating reports Alexander Maslennikov, 31, raped the women and minced some of their remains before feeding them to dogs. In the footage, he is smoking a cigarette and carrying a bottle of wine as he leaves the club at 6am in the Russian city of Volzhsky. He is followed by sales assistants Daria Labutina, 29, and Olga Shaposhnikova, 28, who are known to have accompanied him to a flat he rented after being released from prison over rapes, sexual assault and robbery. Alexander Maslennikov is seen smoking a cigarette and carrying a bottle of wine as he leaves the club with Daria Labutina and Olga Shaposhnikova (East2West News) The women, who worked in a local shopping centre, were unaware of his rape convictions, but even so friends say it was out of character for the pair - who both had boyfriends - to go home with a stranger. Despite this, the women shared drinks at his flat but it is unclear if he stabbed them after they refused to have sex with him or - as earlier reported - he raped the women then killed them. One version is that they turned down his demand for a threesome. But it is known he then dismembered their bodies in his bathroom. One of the women was cut into around 20 pieces. The other woman had severed legs. Maslennikov was later arrested near Moscow as he was suspected of plotting an attack on another woman (East2West News) Police have not confirmed local reports that he minced body parts of the women in a grinder, and later fed the meat to dogs. The man was later arrested near Moscow as he was suspected of plotting an attack on another woman, a hairdresser. At the weekend, a crowd of 500 gathered to protest the suspected killer, hurling abuse at the man as he showed police where he hid human remains. They shouted murderer and bastard. Police have released CCTV videos showing the 6ft 6inch man entering his apartment block with the women, but then leaving later carrying two sports bags containing the women's remains. Alexander Minaev, senior investigator on the case, said: So far we can tell you that Maslennikov confessed the crime and has given evidence pointing at the place where he hid the bodies. The details of his crime are being established now, and the investigation is in progress. While he confessed to murdering both women, he has been reluctant to give police all the details. Maslennikov confessed to murdering both women (East2West News) The women had been missing since visiting Voice karaoke club in the industrial city of Volzhsky on 13 October. Their mobile phones stopped working immediately and frantic relatives could not reach them. Police established that they had left the club with Maslennikov who had been freed from jail in May after serving 11 years for rape, sexual assault and robbery. The criminal dismembered their bodies and ground them up with a mincer, reported Moskovsky Komsomolets, citing law enforcement sources. Their remains were fed to dogs, according to local reports. Body parts of the women were also found in a forest near the city, in Volgograd region, say police sources. Five days after the women vanished, charges of murder of two people were laid against Maslennikov in absentia and he was put on Russia's wanted list. The local mayor offered a 700,000 rouble reward (£9,100) for information on the suspect. Maslennikov was detained late last week by police close to Moscow where he had fled and begun dating a woman, a mother-of-one who worked as a hairdresser. She had earlier been his penpal. In a video of his interrogation, the suspect is seen sweating as he is quizzed by a policeman. East2West News Reuse content
