Castelo de Vide is a municipality in Portugal, with a population of 3,407 inhabitants in 2011, in an area of 264.91 square kilometres (102.28 sq mi).
It is unclear when the first settlers occupied the territory of Castelo de Vide, although archaeologists suggest that the decision to occupy the land, came from the morphology of the soil and from a territorial strategy to occupy and conquered lands. The establishment of a fortification helped to fix a new population to the territory and, at the same, defend the nascent colony.
The Alentejo is a geographical, historical and cultural region of south central and southern Portugal. In Portuguese, its name means beyond (além) the Tagus river (Tejo).
Alentejo includes the regions of Alto Alentejo and Baixo Alentejo. It corresponds to the districts of Beja, Évora, Portalegre and the Alentejo Litoral. The main cities are: Évora, Beja, Serpa, Estremoz, Elvas and Portalegre.
It has borders with Beira Baixa in the North, with Spain (Andalucia and Extremadura in the east, with the Algarve in the South and with the Atlantic Ocean, Ribatejo and Estremadura in the West.
The Alentejo is a region known for its traditional polyphonic singing groups, similar to those found in Tuscany, Corsica, and elsewhere.
O Castelo de Castelo de Vide, no Alentejo, localiza-se na freguesia de Santa Maria da Devesa, povoação e concelho de Castelo de Vide, distrito de Portalegre, em Portugal.
Em posição dominante no alto de uma colina a norte da serra de São Mamede, revestia-se de importância estratégica devido à sua proximidade com a fronteira. Devido ao esplendor da paisagem circundante, a povoação é conhecida localmente como a Sintra do Alentejo.
Povoação situada a cavaleiro do trajeto da antiga estrada romana que ligava à então capital peninsular, Mérida, não foram identificadas evidências arqueológicas acerca da ocupação romana de seu sítio. Também não existem informações acerca das origens medievais de Castelo de Vide.
O castelo medieval apresenta planta quadrangular, orgânica (adaptada ao terreno), com os panos de muralha reforçados por cinco torres quadrangulares e cubelos circulares, precedida por uma barbacã ameada. A Porta da Vila rasga-se no troço a leste, constituída por um amplo portal duplo que acede uma pequena praça de armas, ligando com a porta interna oeste. No troço norte subsistem vestígios das mísulas de um antigo balcão e ainda duas janelas. Entre duas das torres podem ser identificados traços da primitiva alcáçova. No interior da praça de armas dispõem-se as edificações de serviço, como os armazéns.
O conjunto encontra-se classificado como Monumento Nacional por Decreto publicado em 23 de Junho de 1910.

Vila Vicosa and Arraiolos are small towns that capture the feeling of rural Portugal.
White-washed Vila Vicosa offers serene churches, quiet streets and an imposing ducal palace in the Mannerist style. A well-preserved medieval castle overlooks the town, and contains a agricultural museum.
In Arraiolos the central castle is little more than a ring of stone walls, though still very pretty, and fun to explore. A single church occupies the center of this ancient fortress.
The town is quaint, with winding streets and typical blue & white colors.
These towns make good stops, for a few hours, if you're traveling in the region.

O Distrito de Portalegre é um distrito português, pertencente à Unidade Territorial do Alto Alentejo. Limita a norte com o distrito de Castelo Branco, a leste com a Espanha, a sul com o distrito de Évora e a oeste com o distrito de Santarém. Tem uma área de 6 065 km² (6.º maior distrito português) e uma população residente de 118 952 habitantes (Censos 2011).
A sede do distrito é a cidade homónima. O distrito engloba 69 freguesias subdivididas por 15 municípios:

Na actual divisão principal do país, o distrito integra-se na Região do Alentejo e todos os municípios, pertencem à sub-região do Alto Alentejo.

Lamego cidade Histórica do Douro - Portugal
Cidade antiquíssima, datando já do tempo dos romanos, foi reconquistada definitivamente em 1057 por Fernando Magno de Leão aos mouros; quando os distritos foram instituídos em 1835 por uma reforma de Mouzinho da Silveira, Lamego foi inicialmente prevista como sede de distrito; mas nesse mesmo ano a sede do mesmo foi deslocada para Viseu, devido à sua posição mais central.
Foi em Lamego que teriam decorrido as lendárias Cortes de Lamego, onde teria sido feita a aclamação de D. Afonso Henriques como Rei de Portugal e se estabeleceram as Regras de Sucessão ao Trono.
É sede da diocese de Lamego (a única diocese portuguesa que não corresponde a uma capital de distrito), e no concelho são numerosos os monumentos religiosos, dos quais se destacam a Sé Catedral, a Igreja de São Pedro de Balsemão e o Santuário da Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, que dá também o nome a Romaria anual cujo dia principal é o 8 de Setembro, que é também o feriado municipal.
Conhecida também pela sua gastronomia, nas qual se destacam os seus presuntos, o cabrito assado com arroz de forno e pela produção de vinhos, nomeadamente vinho do Porto, de cuja Região Demarcada faz parte, e pelos vinhos espumantes.
