POTSDAM, GERMANY - travel shorts
Potsdam is the capital city of the German federal state of Brandenburg. It directly borders the German capital Berlin and is part of the Berlin/Brandenburg Metropolitan Region. It is situated on the River Havel, 24 kilometres (15 miles) southwest of Berlin's city center. Potsdam was a residence of the Prussian kings and the German Kaiser, until 1918. Around the city there are a series of interconnected lakes and cultural landmarks, in particular the parks and palaces of Sanssouci, the largest World Heritage Site in Germany. The Potsdam Conference, the major post-World War II conference between the victorious Allies, was held at another palace in the area, the Cecilienhof.
Potsdam And Berlin - Germany Best City - Travel & Discover
Potsdam was a residence of the Prussian kings and the German Kaiser until 1918. Its planning embodied ideas of the Age of Enlightenment: through a careful balance of architecture and landscape, Potsdam was intended as a picturesque, pastoral dream which would remind its residents of their relationship with nature and reason.

❤️Throughout my teens I suffered from depression and bulimia. I felt hopeless and didn't feel like my life was worth living. It took hitting rock bottom before I decided to get help and turn things around.
It was a long journey but every day I left more of my illness behind, and the love within me grew stronger and stronger.

An Insider Walking Tour of Potsdam, Germany
A second Insider Tour to Potsdam brought little known Potsdam (other than the famous Potsdam Conference when the leaders divided up Europe) to life. This is one of my longest videos but it wasn't easy to edit down, sorry...
I can't remember what I did yesterday and marvel at how tour leaders can spout out dates and facts so easily...

Potsdam is a city on the border of Berlin, Germany. Sanssouci Palace was once the summer home of Frederick the Great, former King of Prussia. On the grounds of the complex, the Renaissance Orangery Palace overlooks Italian-style gardens with fountains. Historic Mill offers city views. Walking from Alexanderplatz to Potsdamer Platz, Berlin - Germany 4K Travel Channel
When we arrive at Alexanderplatz, the first spring sunshine awaits us. We watch the life a little, but stay only briefly. On the way to Nikolai quarter we pass the Red City Hall, the seat of the Berlin Senate and the Governing Mayor of Berlin. The back is determined by the Molkenmarkt, the large surface area determines the construction process. To the left is the Local Court of Berlin-Mitte. Right besides, the old town hall which was built as an extension of the city hall. The Nikolaiviertel is to the right.
The Nikolaiviertel is regarded as one of the oldest quarters of Berlin. In the 2nd World War it was destroyed almost completely in bomb raids and street fights. For the 750th anniversary of Berlin in 1987, the quarter was rebuilt. The St. Nicholas' Church with the Wappenbrunnen (foundation fountain) to commemorate the founding of Berlin, give the impression of an idyllic medieval city, although no building is older than 40 years.
The Ephraim-Palais with its extensive gold ornamentation was built by Veitel Heine Ephraim. He was a financier of the wars of Frederick II. By inferior coins he scored high profits, but contributed to a sharp rise in inflation.
During reconstruction, the building was constructed using original parts, 12 m from the original site. Today it is a museum and part of the Berlin City Museum Foundation.
The Mühlendammschleuse combines the original settlements Coelln (the oldest part of the city of Berlin) and Nikolai. Built as dam, it was later rebuilt to mills that grind grain. Later, sawmills were built. In the 16th century the sluiceway was set up. It allows the sailing around of the mills in the Spree. Due to the ever-growing ships and increasing ship traffic the Mühlendammschleuse was built around 1894. Today's double sluice was set up in 1936.
In 1688, the square was created according to plans of Johann Arnold Nering in the middle of Friedrichstadt. Elector Friedrich III., the later King Frederick I settled the French immigrants (huguenots) who had fled before the French revolution, here.

Potsdam, the Capital of Brandenburg, Germany
Potsdam is the capital of Brandenburg and borders Berlin. The town has population of approx. 160,000. It is widely known for its castles and landscape as a World Heritage Site. Potsdam is more than 1000 years old. Many historic buildings are under re-construction after World War II and the period of the GDR.
For most of its recent history Potsdam has not been accessible from Berlin. The last station before the former GDR was Wannsee. Many of the buildings that are visible today have been reconstructed after the bombings of the Second World War and after the lax care of the East German Government.
Potsdam has several claims to national and international notability. In Germany, it had a similar status that Windsor has in the United Kingdom: it was the residence of the Prussian kings and the German Kaiser, until 1918. Around the city there are a series of interconnected lakes and unique cultural landmarks, in particular the parks and palaces of Sanssouci, the largest World Heritage Site in Germany. The Potsdam Conference, the major post-World War II conference between the victorious Allies, was held at another palace in the area, the Cecilienhof.
Babelsberg, in the south-eastern part of Potsdam, was a major film production studio before the war and has enjoyed increased success as a major center of European film production since the fall of the Berlin Wall. The Filmstudio Babelsberg is the oldest large-scale film studio in the world.
Potsdam developed into a centre of science in Germany from the 19th century. Today, there are three public colleges, the University of Potsdam and more than 30 research institutes in the city.

Potsdam (Germany) Travel - Brandenburger Tor
Take a tour of Potsdam's Brandenburger Tor in Potsdam, Germany -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
The Brandenburg Gate lies in splendor just north of the Old Market Square in the northeast city of Potsdam, Germany.
Construction of the elegant monument, featuring Roman arches and Corinthian columns, concluded in 1770.
Each of the two sides of this gate reflects the two architects who designed the magnificent structure, and as such are markedly different in appearance.
After passing through the gate and following a straight trajectory, visitors will find the lovely Church of St. Peter and Paul.
Originally, before the town found itself significantly expanded, the gate separated Potsdam's inner city from the, then, countryside.
This monument and its specific design was commissioned and overseen by King Frederick the second himself, giving it prominent historical significance.
