We fly into Almaty on a sunny and warm day in June. After checking into the World Hotel Saltanat, we head out to see the sights. Along the way, I sample some Kumis, fermented mare's milk, buy some cheap Kazakh champagne and walk for miles.

I share some tips that all tourists MUST know before they come here! We touch down in Kazakhstan and take sometime to explore the central area of the biggest city in the nation, Almaty. And I stroll through about the city and meet some of the friendly locals.
Kazakhstan is a little know country in the heart of Central Asia and holds the position as the 9th largest country in the world. It is a lot more than the movie Borat which has nothing to do with the actual country. It is the dominant nation of Central Asia economically, generating 60% of the region's GDP, primarily through its oil/gas industry. It also has vast mineral resources.

What to do and eat in Almaty? - KAZAKHSTAN FOOD & TRAVEL VLOG
In this video we visit the largest city and the former capital of Kazakhstan - Almaty. We were amazed how modern and nice city Almaty really is. And damn those mountains surrounding the city are beautiful!
We start off by taking a cable car on top of Kok-Tobe Hill. Then we eat the Central Asian horse meat noodle dish called Beshparmak. We also learn how the taxi system works in Almaty before we see the most beautiful lake ever - Big Almaty Lake!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! We started “travel hacking” and taking more trips together and finally decided we wanted to travel for one year. Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest metropolis, is set in the foothills of the Trans-Ili Alatau mountains. It served as the country's capital until 1997 and remains Kazakhstan's trading and cultural hub. Landmarks include the Central State Museum, displaying thousands of historic Kazakh artifacts.
