Avila, City Center - Spain 4K Travel Channel
In the center of Avila, you will inevitably encounter the Plaza del Mercado Chico and the Cathedral.
Avila was continuously inhabited since the Roman Age. Presumably, the Plaza del Mercado Chico, the central square of the city, is located at a crossroads of two Roman roads. In the Middle Ages, various guilds gathered around the square. The center of the arcaded square is the Town Hall (Ayuntamiento). Neoclassical architecture characterizes the overall picture.
Opposite the city hall is the church Iglesia de San Juan Bautista. The name of the square has a long tradition. Although it was originally called Plaza del Mercado Chico, it experienced some changes of its name within the last two centuries, until it got its original name again in 2001.
On our first visit, we experience the place somewhat united. For this, a pastry shop attracts our eyes. It offers a highly acclaimed specialty of Avila: The Yemas of Avila or Yemas de Santa Teresa after the saint Teresa . Teresa was born in Avila and as one says, she was not averse to a good meal.
This delicacy is known throughout Spain and is taken along with pleasure as a souvenir. The Yemas consist of egg yolk which is baked mixed with a syrup of lemon juice and cinnamon.
On our second visit, the impression of the deserted square is completely disapeared. It is market day and a great variety of fresh products is available. Among other things, there are fruits, vegetables, cheeses, meat and sausage products. But also plants for the house and the garden. The buyers queue patiently in front of the market stalls. Every now and then they find time for a little chat.
We leave the bustling activities and go further on to the Plaza de la Catedral.
The Cathedral of Avila (Catedral del Salvador) is considered the first Gothic cathedral in Spain. It was designed as a fortress cathedral and stands on the remains of the Church of the Savior (Salvador). The eastern apse is part of the Romanesque wall and thus part of the fortifications of the city.

Places to see in ( Plasencia - Spain )
Plasencia is a walled market city in the province of Cáceres, Extremadura, Western Spain. Situated on the bank of the Jerte River, Plasencia has a historic quarter that is a consequence of the city's strategic location along the Silver Route, or Ruta de la Plata. Since the 15th century, the noblemen of the region began to move to Plasencia, defining its current appearance.
The final chapter of the 20th century was an extraordinary period for Plasencia and its development; the number of inhabitants has tripled in the last 60 years, and during this period of time many public works have been constructed including the hospital Virgen del Pueto, the reservoir of Plasencia, the Municipal Sport Centre and many useful roads. In addition, several university degrees are offered at the present university campus.

Las Catedrales, a complex of two cathedrals. In 1189, by request of Alfonso VIII, Plasencia was declared head of dioceses by Pope Clement III and work on a Romanesque Cathedral started shortly after, concluding sometime in the 18th century, by which time fashions had changed and Gothic elements had been added in the forms of pointed arches to the Nave and a rose window to the main South Entrance, while the cloister, on the East side bordering the city walls, was entirely Gothic. In the 15th century the Dioceses decided to build a grand Gothic Cathedral in the same site, demolishing the old cathedral as the new one was being built. Work started in 1498 and by the 16th century, standard Renaissance elements had been added such as the East Entrance and the elaborate Choir Seating, while the local style of the period, Plateresque, is present in the West (main) and the Presbytery Entrances. Work continued until the 18th century, when, with only the Sanctuary and the Transept of the New Cathedral finished, the project was abandoned leaving behind a somewhat odd result, as most of the Nave of the Old Cathedral, its cloister and its unique Octagonal Tower housing the Sala Capitular Chapel is still attached to the New Cathedral, while the new choir, that was supposed to stand along the New Nave, was positioned across the transept. In the Main Chapel, there is an altarpiece by Gregorio Fernández (17th century), and the choir by Rodrigo Alemán.
The Museum, near the Cathedral, is home to artworks by Jusepe de Ribera and Luis de Morales.

Places to see in ( Montilla - Spain )
Montilla is a town and municipality in southern Spain, in the province of Córdoba, 32 miles south of the provincial capital, Córdoba.
The olive oil of the district is abundant and good, and it is the peculiar flavour of the pale dry light wine of Montilla that gives its name to the sherry known as Amontillado. Montilla is the largest component of the Montilla-Moriles designated wine region. The large wineries Alvear and Gran Barquero are located in Montilla, which has an annual vendimia (wine-harvest) festival.
Local folkloric figures are the witches las Camachas, mentioned by Cervantes in the Dialogue of the Dogs. The central portion of that work is set in a convent which today contains the town hall of Montilla (in Spanish, ayuntamiento).
Montilla was the birthplace of The Great Captain, Gonzalo or Gonsalvo of Córdoba (1453-1515), and contains the ruined castle of his father, Pedro Fernández de Córdoba. El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega lived thirty years in Montilla, and the future saint Juan de Ávila lived for the last fifteen years of his life in Montilla, where he is buried.

Places to see in ( Olite - Spain )
Olite is a town and municipality located in the Comarca de Tafalla comarca, Merindad de Olite merindad, in Navarre, Spain. According to Isidore of Seville's (Historia de regibus Gothorum, Vandalorum et Suevorum), the town of Oligicus was founded by Swinthila, Visigothic King of Hispania (621-631) in order to control and punish the Vascones.
However, the town of Olite was not heard of again until five centuries later, when the present-day town was founded and chartered. The Palacio Real de Olite, a fine Gothic castle-palace, was the royal seat of Charles III of Navarre.
Olite is a Historic-Artistic Site where traces of a Roman and Gothic presence can be found in Olite walled enclosure and in the splendour of the medieval court of Carlos III in its castle-palace.
Olite has two medieval churches: Santa María, Gothic from the 13th century and which has a beautiful façade and a magnificent reredos, is situated partly inside the palace, where it was once the chapel; and San Pedro, the oldest in Olite, with a Romanesque façade and cloister. It was built during the 12th century and substantially remodelled in the early 18th century. Only the façade remains of the original structure. Among the civil buildings it is worth mentioning the palace of Olite, which was completely rebuilt in 1937, and the old palace, converted into a Parador Nacional hotel. In the surrounding area are the lagoon of Pitillas, with a bird observatory, and, on the other side of the river Aragón, the Monastery of Oliva, with a striking Cistercian church and Gothic cloister.

Valladolid
Valladolid is a city in Spain and the de facto capital of the autonomous region of Castile and Leon.
The historic centre of Valladolid, the city on the Pisuerga River, is home to an interesting collection of Renaissance architecture comprising houses, palaces and emblematic buildings such as the Cathedral, the College of San Gregorio (today the site of the National Sculpture Museum) and the church of San Pablo.
The historic centre of Valladolid conserves an important monumental and architectural heritage, particularly comprising noble houses and religious buildings. A highlight among these is the unfinished cathedral. The original design for the project was commissioned by King Philip II from the architect Juan de Herrera in the 16th century. The death of both men meant the cathedral remained unfinished, and its central section was not opened until 1668. Years later in 1730, the Master Churriguera completed the work on the main facade. Inside the cathedral, the main chapel houses a magnificent altarpiece produced by Juan de Juni in 1562. The space also includes the Diocesan Museum, containing a number of carved images attributed to Gregorio Fernández and to Juni himself, in addition to a silver monstrance by Juan de Arfe.
Other religious buildings of interest are the Gothic church of Santiago, with an interesting altarpiece depicting the Adoration of the Magi made by Berruguete in 1537; and the church of Santa María la Antigua, with its unusual Romanesque tower crowned with a pyramid.
Presided by a statue of Ansúrez, the 16th-century Plaza Mayor square is in the very heart of the city. On one of its sides stands the town hall, dating from the start of the century and crowned by the clock tower. The surrounding streets are home to a large number of stately houses and palaces. Pimentel Palace, today the site of the Regional Government, is one of the most important, as it was here on 21 May 1527 that King Philip II was born. Other highlights include the 16th-century palace of the Marquises of Valverde and the palace of the banker Fabio Nelli, a building in the classical style whose construction was begun in 1576. It is today home to the Valladolid Museum, which contains a display of furniture, sculpture, paintings and ceramics.
Evidence of Valladolid's cultural importance can be seen in theUniversity building –whose Baroque façade is decorated with various academic symbols–, and in Santa Cruz College –which in addition to containing a valuable library, is one of the earliest examples of the Spanish Renaissance.
The homes of important historical figures can still be seen throughout the city, including the House of Cervantes, where the author of Don Quixote lived with his family between 1603 and 1606. Here's an interesting fact: it was in this house that the writer put the finishing touches to his great work. A visit to the house-museum is a chance to see items and furnishings from the period and recreate the way of life of noble family in the 17th century. Another recommended visit is to the Christopher Columbus House-Museum, built in the 1960s in a copy of the type of dwelling of his nephew, Diego Colón, in Puerto Rico. The current palace has an exhibition of various items and documents related to the discovery of America.
Also worth visiting in 19th-century Valladolid is the building where one of its most illustrious figures was born, José Zorrilla. The house is open to the public, and contains several of the romantic writer's personal effects, furniture and documents.
As the city has undergone significant urban growth in recent decades, Valladolid today offers a wide range of leisure and cultural options, with cinemas, theatres and museums, such as the National Sculpture Museum in the College of San Gregorio. This splendid building in the Flemish Gothic style, one of the most outstanding constructions in Valladolid, is notable for its exhibition of polychrome carved figures by artists like Alonso Berruguete and Gregorio Fernández. The Museum of Spanish Contemporary Art in the Patio Herreriano –one of the cloisters in the old Monastery of San Benito– contains over 800 20th-century paintings and sculptures.
