City Center Walk in Ghent - Belgium 4K Travel Channel
After we have parked the car in the garage reserved for us, we start our first city walk through the center of Ghent. We are in front of the Sint Michielskerk (Saint Michael's Church), built in the 15th century. The construction work was interrupted during the Huguenot Wars. The tower was not completed later due to a lack of money.
Inside there are paintings by Anthonis van Dyck, Gaspar de Crayer, and other famous painters. As festivities take place, we do not want to disturb anymore.
Now the Sint Michielsbrug (St Michael’s Bridge) lies in front of us. We now get the first idea of why Ghent is also called the Manhattan of the Middle Ages.
Behind the bridge rise the towers of the Sint-Niklaaskerk, the Belfry, and the St. Bavo Cathedral.
To the left, along the Leie, is the Hotel 1898 The Post and next to it the Gildenhuis van de Vrije Schippers. The free skippers acquired the building in 1530, before which it was the guild house of the millers' guild. Today it serves to represent the port of Ghent.
In the past, the shore of the Leie served here as an inland port. Today both the right bank Graslei and the opposite bank Korenlei with their listed houses and a multitude of café terraces are a popular meeting place for locals and tourists.
To the south, we discover a graffiti on the wall of a house, depicting the famous Ghent Altarpiece in St. Bavo's Cathedral.
Passing the Hotel 1898 The Post we reach the Korenmarkt, the main square of Ghent.
We take a look around and try to let the architecture of the individual buildings affect us. Next to the Sint-Niklaaskerk, we discover the Stadshal, the City Pavilion. Due to its unorthodox shape, we want to take a closer look at the hall later.
While we walk in the northern direction, a bus passes by, and we notice that it is a free electric bus for locals and tourists here in Ghent. The turquoise buses are easy to recognize.

Jung-A Lee: A Private Organ Recital in Walt Disney Concert Hall (YAR 77215)
Jung-A Lee: A Private Organ Recital
A Private Organ Recital in Walt Disney Concert Hall
Jim Mulally, executive producer
Internationally appreciated organist Jung-A Lee performs an intimate recital on the great Walt Disney Concert Hall organ as a gift to Simon Woods (the new CEO of the Los Angeles Philharmonic) and as a token of appreciation in honor of the orchestra’s 100th Anniversary season. Jung-A’s infectious and delightful sense of humor infuses her musical performance and our choices for the repertoire.
The concert includes pieces from the Renaissance, the Baroque and High Baroque eras, through 20th Century and new 21st Century music commissioned for this recording and concert in 2017 and 2018.
Enjoy the magnificence and power of the Caspar Glatter-Götz/Manuel Rosales organ in Walt Disney Concert Hall in intimate music, such as in the minimalist masterpiece “Miroir” by Ad Wammes, And in thunderous exhilarating music such as in Bach’s mighty Prelude in B Minor, or John Weaver’s “Toccata.” Once again, the magnificent acoustics in Walt Disney Concert Hall (built by Frank Gehry with acoustics by Yasuhisa Toyota) do justice to Jung-A’s performance and to this music.
Jung-A earned her doctorate at Boston University, her master’s at Yale where she earned the Charles Ives prize, and her undergraduate degree at Toronto University. Jung-A served as organ scholar at The Memorial Church, Harvard University, during her time in Boston.
When not performing around the United States or overseas, Jung-A serves as organist at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Newport Beach, California and performs regularly with Robert Istad and the Pacific Chorale at Segerstrom Center for the Arts. In fact, it is Rob Istad, with whom Yarlung recorded the choral album “Nostos,” who originally introduced Yarlung Records to Jung-A Lee.

Happy Hageland
Brussels, Belgium - capital of European Union
There are slides of Grand Place, Brussels City Hall, Cinquantenaire triumphal arch, Manneken Pis, Brussels Stock Exchange, Clock Carillon Du Mont Des Arts, Atomium, etc.
Brussels is the capital of Belgium, the French Community of Belgium, and the Flemish Community. The region has a population of 1.2 million and a metropolitan area with a population of over 1.8 million, the largest in Belgium.
Since the end of the Second World War, Brussels has been a major centre for international politics and has become the polyglot home of numerous international organisations, politicians, diplomats and civil servants. Brussels is the de facto capital (or one of three capitals including Luxembourg and Strasbourg) of the European Union as it hosts a number of principal EU institutions. The secretariat of the Benelux and the headquarters of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) are also located in Brussels.
Historically a Dutch-speaking city, it has seen a major shift to French from the late 19th century onwards. Today the majority language is French, and the Brussels-Capital Region is an officially bilingual enclave within the Flemish Region. All road signs, street names, and many advertisements and services are shown in both languages. Brussels is increasingly becoming multilingual with increasing numbers of migrants, expatriates and minority groups speaking their own languages.

Ghent Belgium 4k Travel Guide
Explore the awesome city of Ghent in Belgium.
A train away from Brussels Ghent is a smaller but very beautiful city to explore. With the help of some local friends we visit some of the coolest places in the city. There are so many old churches that some of them are being turned into Food halls and look awesome. Renting a boat to go around the city is another very fun activity to explore the city and it's surroundings.
Ghent is a port city in the north of Belgium, at the confluence of the Leie and Scheldt rivers. Back in the Middle Ages it was a prominent city-state and its architecture still shows. Today it’s famous for being a university town and cultural hub in Belgium. Its pedestrianized center is known for medieval architecture such as 12th-century Gravensteen castle and the 3 Towers.

Aankondiging congres: Brussel Morgen, Brussel Onze Stad
Brussel morgen, Brussel onze stad

Gravensteen Castle in Ghent - Belgium 4K Travel Channel
The mighty Gravensteen Castle in the center of Ghent is one of the largest moated castles in Europe. The origin goes back to a wooden building that was probably built by the Vikings on the remains of a Roman settlement. Philip of Alsace built today's castle from 1180 to 1200. It was the residence of the Counts of Flanders, and later it was court and prison. In 1353 Count Ludwig II relocated his residence from Grafenstein Castle to the Hof ten Walle, the later Prinzenhof. The Flemish citizens had always been very rebellious and besieged the castle in 1301 and forced it to surrender.
From 1407 it served as a court seat and from 1780 as a textile factory. Later it was used as a cotton spinning mill.
In 1887, the town purchased the castle back and restored it. Today it serves as a museum.
Visiting Gravensteen Castle
Our visit begins on the ground floor of the Audience Hall. On the first floor is the large hall where the Knights of the Golden Fleece met in 1445.
Today, various medieval weapons and armor are displayed here.
A narrow spiral staircase leads to the viewing platform, from which you have a magnificent view of the city of Ghent.
In the living quarters, one notices that the Countess only had a relatively small chamber, compared to the one of the Count. He had a comparatively large representation room at his disposal.
Next comes the prison in the basement, which was accessible through the dungeon hole. A torture museum with torture tools is also part of the tour.
In the cellar vault, you see a Viking ship.
The executions took place in the inner courtyard.
An audio guide explains the history of the heyday of the castle in the 12th century. Besides facts, you will also hear anecdotes from that time.
