Salisbury is in the southeast of Wiltshire near the edge of Salisbury Plain. Salisbury Cathedral was formerly north of the city at Old Sarum. Following the cathedral's relocation, a settlement grew up around it which received a city charter in 1227 as New Sarum, which continued to be its official name until 2009 when Salisbury City Council was established. Salisbury railway station is an interchange between the West of England Main Line and the Wessex Main Line.
Stonehenge, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is 8 miles (13 km) northwest of Salisbury.
Archaeologists believe it was constructed from 3000 BC to 2000 BC. The surrounding circular earth bank and ditch, which constitute the earliest phase of the monument, have been dated to about 3100 BC. Radiocarbon dating suggests that the first bluestones were raised between 2400 and 2200 BC, although they may have been at the site as early as 3000 BC.
A Walk Around Salisbury Railway Station, Salisbury, England
Salisbury railway station is located in the city of Salisbury in Wiltshire, England, 83.75 miles (135 km) south-west of London Waterloo. It is operated by South West Trains (SWT) but also served by Great Western Railway (GWR). Salisbury is the crossing point of two routes: SWT's West of England Main Line between London Waterloo and Exeter St Davids, and GWR's Wessex Main Line between Cardiff Central and Portsmouth Harbour/Brighton. In the past it was also served by trains to destinations such as Ilfracombe, Padstow and Plymouth.
There have been three different railway stations in the city of Salisbury, built by the London and South Western Railway (LSWR) from 1847 and the Great Western Railway (GWR) from 1856, as well as two further railway stations at Wilton, two and a half miles away.
The LSWR opened their Milford station on the Eastern side of the city in 1 March 1847, with the opening of their branch line from Southampton to passenger traffic. For nearly a decade this was the only rail route to the city, until 30 June 1856 when the GWR opened their branch line from Westbury, and 1 May 1857 when the LSWR extended their main line from London to Andover.
On 2 May 1859 the LSWR opened a new station on the south side of the Great Western station, west of Fisherton Street, to coincide with the opening the first section of the Salisbury and Yeovil Railway was opened as an extension of the LSWR's line. As the two railways were built using different gauges through goods traffic had to be unloaded and transhipped in a transfer shed; a footbridge was opened in 1860 linking the two stations to allow passengers to change trains. The LSWR station had a single long platform served by trains in both directions and a second bay platform was provided at the London end.
In the 1870s the LSWR opened a second platform east of Fisherton Street for services towards London; it had an entrance from the street and was linked to the old platform by a subway. It too had another bay platform for trains to the East.
The LSWR station was again enlarged between 1899 and 1902 and the 1870s platform east of Fisherton Street could then be closed. Two new platforms serving three tracks were opened between the GWR platforms and the original LSWR one, reached by a subway from the LSWR's new station offices which were built on the west side of their original building of 1859.
In the early morning of 1 July 1906 an overnight boat train derailed in Salisbury station, killing 24 passengers and 4 railwaymen.

This was another excellent concert. One would never think that Morrissey was in a hospital the week before. He was in very good humour and playful, and sounded brilliant. He was slightly less communicative verbally than he was known to be, but he physically made contact with fans by reaching out to shake as many hands as possible. The crowd was in turn very receptive and sang along to their favourite songs.
This show saw the return of the Smiths' classic Ask. The song had been a setlist regular earlier in the year on the Tour Of Refusal, and was being played here for the first time on the Swords Tour. It took the place of Nowhere Fast which would unfortunately not return.
As he took the stage Morrissey greeted the audience with a simple Hello! His next words to the audience came after Ganglord when he said Thank you Salisbury... it's a great joy to be here. If you live here, you know, it's a wonderful place... (for the sake of those who thought he was being sarcastic, he adds) it really is... After I'm Throwing My Arms Around Paris he proceeded with the introduction of the band: The cheerleaders behind me comprise Boz Boorer... and thoroughly debased is Solomon Walker, there... this person is Matt Walker... doing quite well on the guitar is Jesse Tobias... doing very well on the keyboard is Gustavo Manzur... and I'm about to turn professional (comments on someone's sign) yes, I know, it's a burden, I'm very frinky...
Morrissey followed the b-side Teenage Dad On His Estate with the line It's very nice of you to applaud a song that you don't know... He was handed a record during Ask so after the song he told the giver Sadly, I bought it when it first came out... that was my life... It still is! It still is... He ended Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself by stating The end. The crowd then broke into a chant of his name while they were waiting for the band to launch into the next planned song. Death At One's Elbow was introduced with the line I was born and braised in a very posh city called Manch-fester - Manchester! And this is a song of the great city... After the song he added Well perhaps I was wrong... Did you enjoy Doll & The Kicks? (crowd cheers) So did I...
Following The World Is Full Of Crashing Bores Morrissey replied to a shout of Are you feeling better? with No. Should I? (crowd: yes!) What for? He followed Is It Really So Strange? and its final line I could never go home again with the teasingly witty Home, of course, being Bournemouth... Before going into The Loop he asked someone What was that my friend? That song was followed by yet another chant of Morrissey's name. His parting words before going into encore First Of The Gang To Die were Thanks for your patience.... and, when you kneel down tonight, and you pray, don't forget me...

The new town received its city charter in 1227 under the name New Sarum, which continued to be its official name until 2009, when the Salisbury City Council was established. It sits at the confluence of five rivers: the Nadder, Ebble, Wylye, and Bourne are tributary to the Hampshire Avon, which flows to the south coast and into the sea at Christchurch in Dorset. Salisbury railway station serves the city and is a regional interchange, at the crossing point between the West of England Main Line and the Wessex Main Line.
Salisbury lies on the intersection of the A30, the A36 and the A338 and is at the end of the A343, A345, A354 and A360. Salisbury also has a Park and Ride bus scheme with five sites around the city. Salisbury railway station is the crossing point of the West of England Main Line, from London Waterloo to Exeter St Davids, and the Wessex Main Line from Bristol to Southampton.

Morrissey was very energetic and quite talkative on this date. He chatted a lot with fans, but then he also had to deal with a heckler who tested his patience. The rest of the audience was rather receptive and quite a few fans managed to make it on stage. There was no change from the previous date's planned setlist.
As he entered stage Morrissey greeted his fans with Salisbury, hello! Welcome to a night of folk music gone too far! He made many playful lyric changes in set opener You're Gonna Need Someone On Your Side. For the past week or so he had been changing a line to someone kindly told me that you've wasted every good thing in your life, but on this date he slightly changed that to someone kindly told me that you've blown away every good thing in your life. He also sang and here I am as usual and you're gonna need someone on your snide.
As usual the second part of Morrissey's greeting was delivered after The Boy Racer and on this date it went My name is Cat, how d'you do? It's nice to be here... I think... After Billy Budd the audience broke into a chant of their idol's name and Morrissey joined in the chant with his own Salisbury! Salisbury! Then to someone shouting he answered Yes that! After Reader Meet Author he had more answers for fans: Yes I can hear you! and Later...
After Is It Really So Strange? Morrissey enquired I suppose you come from Portsmouth, have you? Well Winchester then? How did I know? How did I know... This inspired another question, this one after Hairdresser On Fire: Do you remember a song called 'Winchester Cathedral'? Seeing mostly blank stares, Morrissey then joked Well we'd like to do our version now... Further down the setlist Sunny was introduced with This is a folk song...
After Sunny Morrissey replied to someone What do you mean Clay? It was Carl actually.... He then started So, before you shout out in public... but was stopped by some heckler doing just that. So he answered Yeah but you know why? Well tell us all, please... After Lost there were more exchanges with the heckler: Wouldn't you like it if I get off the stage?... (more shouts) Very funny... After November Spawned The Monster he teased I'd like to get very intimate with everybody... but I can't be bothered!
After Alma Matters Morrissey said in his typical self-deprecating way There is another song that nobody really liked, but... undeterred, foolishly... After Tomorrow he chatted again with people in the audience: There's just so many, unfortunately... (giggles) no, not really... where are you? (crowd cheers)... In Now My Heart Is Full he replaced Patric Doonan raised to wait by Tony Newly raised to wait. After that song he angrily shouted NO! Be told! at the heckler, then asked himself Should I take this? No...

Salisbury Cathedral, formally known as the Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary, is an Anglican cathedral in Salisbury, England, and one of the leading examples of Early English architecture. The main body of the cathedral was completed in 38 years, from 1220 to 1258.
Since 1549, the cathedral has had the tallest church spire in the United Kingdom, at 404 feet (123 m). Visitors can take the Tower Tour where the interior of the hollow spire, with its ancient wooden scaffolding, can be viewed. The cathedral also has the largest cloister and the largest cathedral close in Britain at 80 acres (32 ha). It contains a clock which is among the oldest working clocks in the world, and has the best surviving of the four original copies of Magna Carta. In 2008, the cathedral celebrated the 750th anniversary of its consecration.
The cathedral is the mother church of the Diocese of Salisbury and is the seat of the Bishop of Salisbury, currently Nick Holtam.
