Scotland Tour: Scottish Serendipity in 4/4 Time
Each evening, in almost every town, the happy sound of traditional Scottish folk music spills out of local pubs. And each evening, visitors have the chance to join in the fun. It's one of the great things about traveling in Scotland. Apart from Ireland, there's no place like it.
After spending an evening writing at our Inverness hotel, I needed a little break. In the neighboring hotel's bar, a band was playing. Our guide, Liz, popped out and waved me eagerly in. Inside I found most of our group, already thoroughly part of the scene...mixing it up with the regulars and a fun-loving hen party (that's British for bachelorette party).
I love the way our guide, Liz, made sure to capitalize on any cultural serendipity over the course of our tour.

Plymouth Maids at the Carrefour Hypermarket Brest
On Friday the 27th September as part of the Plymouth/Brest 50th Twinning Anniversary The Plymouth Maids together with the Plymouth Morris Men Danced in the Carrefour Hypermarket. They were also joined by two members of the Plymouth Pipe Band. It transpired that it was also Carrefour's 50th Anniversary as well. They looked after us very well indeed.
Brest and Plymouth have been twinned for 50years now and the aim is to foster closer relation ships between the two cities.
The Plymouth Maids are honoured, together with the Plymouth Morris Men, to be representing part of the culture of the Ocean City of Plymouth. In the afternoon they demonstrated some of their dances to the primary schools (Ecoles) Sanquer + Immaculée + Providence. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience and joined in with some of the dances. They then moved on to Collège-lycée de l'Iroise where they demonstrated their dances to the Students there.
On the Saturday they and the others paraded through the streets of Brest and performed in the space near the Recouvrance bridge at the bottom of the rue De Siam.
That evening we all had A Soirée festive franco-britannique à la salle de la Maison des Syndicats, avec musiciens et danseurs des 2 côtés de la Manche :
Morris Dancers & Clog Maids, Wreckers, Pipers, Kevrenn Sant Mark, Bep Sort et Dizoursi
