City Walk in Cordoba - Spain 4K Travel Channel
Our Cordoba city walk starts at the Plaza de las Tendillas with its glamorous architecture of the last century. Here is the business district of Cordoba. We walk south via Calle Jesus Maria, Calle Angel de Saavedra, Calle Blanco Belmonte and Calle Conde y Luque up to the Mezquita. It is well known that the Moors were masters of artificial irrigation, but in the garden of the Mezquita you can very well take a closer look at the filigree canal systems. The plants only get as much water as they need, a challenge at the hot summer temperatures.
We circumnavigate the Mezquita in order to get a feeling for the external dimensions of this magnificent building.
Through the narrow lanes of the Jewish quarter, the Judería, we reach the Puerta de la Luna, the southern gate. In the cool courtyard of the gate is a nice restaurant where we enjoy a cool drink.
In front of the gate is a portrait of Abu al Walid Muhammad ibn Rushd Averroes, one of the most important Arab philosophers. Abu Yaqub Yusuf I, the 2nd Caliph of the Almohad, commissioned him to reorder and comment the works of Aristotle. He was an advocate of the pure logic and fell in disgrace, because his view caused a conflict with the Islamic orthodox forces, the Caliph needed as a supporter for a campaign. He was banished and his works were burned. However already 2 or 3 years later, the Caliph brought him as a doctor again to his court in Marrakesh, where he stayed until his death. The Islamic orthodoxy categorically refuse his works to this day.
Along the Calle Cairuan, that runs along the old city walls, we go to the Puerta de Almodóvar. It is an impressive road, where water basins ensure coolness. On one side the street is flanked by the crenellated ramparts and the other side by traditional houses with pretty floral balconies.
The Puerta de Almodóvar is the last preserved town gate of the Arabic Age. It was restored in the 14th century.
In front we see a statue of Lucio Anneo Seneca the Younger of Cordoba. Known as philosopher, dramatist, naturalist, politician and as a stoic, he was one of the richest men in Rome, although he preached restraint in his philosophical writings. Yet his works are the most read in Rome. As an educator and advisor of Emperor Nero, he tried to reduce its licentious acts.

Travel video about destination Córdoba in Spain.
Cordoba was once the most important metropolis of the Caliphate and today is a city of harmony and contrast. It is a city in which the history of the Caliphs, Romans, Jews and Christians is still very much alive and was the centre of the Arab realm of Al-Andalus that reached its peak in around 1000 A.D.The Ponte Romana extends across the Gudalquivir and leads to the old town. With its sixteen arches the Roman bridge that spans across the river is one of the city’s main landmarks. The city’s most important building is the Mezquita Catedral in the centre of the old town. It is undoubtedly the most splendid mosque of Moorish Islamic origin on the Iberian Peninsula. Construction of the main mosque began in 785 A.D. during the rule of Abd-Ar-Rahman The First. The world’s third largest mosque was built on the site of a West Gothic Christian church that was built on the remains of a Roman temple. The Plaza Santa Marina dates back to the 17th century and was once used as a bull-fighting arena and also as a theatrical stage. Today it is frequently used as a marketplace. The striking monument of the famous Spanish toreador, Manolete, who was killed during a bullfight inside the arena, occupies a large section of the square. Mighty walls surround the Medina. Some of its old gates have survived such as the Puerta De Almodovar that leads into the Jewish quarter. Once known as a wealthy city, Cordoba was considered to be a worthy prize and was thus well protected and fortified. A combination of the Arabic, Jewish and Christian worlds, Cordoba is most deservedly the Pearl of Andalusia!

A Walk Through the City of Cordoba, Spain
Córdoba also called Cordova in English, is a city in Andalusia, southern Spain, and the capital of the province of Córdoba. It was conquered by Muslim armies in the eighth century, and then became the capital of the Islamic Emirate and then Caliphate of Córdoba, including most of the Iberian Peninsula.
Caliph Al Hakam II opened many libraries in addition to the many medical schools and universities which existed at the time, making Córdoba a centre for education. During these centuries, Córdoba became a society ruled by Muslims, in which all other groups had a second-class status. It returned to Christian rule in 1236, during the Reconquista. Today it is a moderately sized modern city; its population in 2011 was about 330,000. The historic centre was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Córdoba has the warmest summer high temperatures in Spain and Europe with average high temperatures around (99 °F) in July and similar heat in August.
1 Day in Cordoba, Spain
Places to go and see in a day in Cordoba. Start the day with a visit to Mezquita Cathedral, then walk up to Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos (there is a churro stall right next to this place so I highly recommend trying this Spanish treat). 2 minutes by walk from here is Caballerizas Reales. Puente Romano, Plaza de Potro and Posada del Potro are a must see places when in Cordoba.

CORDOBA, SPAIN | DAY 1 VLOG | WALKING AROUND CORDOBA
We went to Cordoba, Spain for a weekend and spent the first day walking around and seeing the city filled with so much history.
Cordoba is a small city so it can be seen in a weekend. We decided to spend the first day taking in the views. You can walk around the city in a day. We were caught in the rain and saw a beautiful rainbow.
We stayed a hostel called Còrdoba Bed and Be for 62 euros for the weekend. It was a nice hostel for the price. The rooms were clean and reception was super nice. I recommend staying here if you are on a budget and want to spend more on seeing the city.

Tomorrow we will go see the Mosque-Cathedral and the gardens of the Christian Monarchs.
