On this 2019 video i am walking in Canberra in Australia 2019 showing Canberra ACT Australian capital territory shops facilities with food & drink facilities #australia #canberra #ACT
Canberra is the capital city of Australia. Founded following the federation of the colonies of Australia as the seat of government for the new nation, it is Australia's largest inland city and the eighth-largest city overall. The city is located at the northern end of the Australian Capital Territory; 280 km (170 mi) south-west of Sydney and 660 km (410 mi) north-east of Melbourne.
On 1 January 1901, federation of the colonies of Australia was achieved. Section 125 of the new Australian Constitution provided that land, situated in New South Wales and at least 100 miles (160 km) from Sydney, would be ceded to the new federal government. Following discussion and exploration of various areas within New South Wales, the Seat of Government Act 1908 was passed in 1908 which specified a capital in the Yass-Canberra region. The land was transferred to the Commonwealth by New South Wales in 1911 creating the Australian Capital Territory, two years prior to the capital city being founded and formally named as Canberra in 1913.
It is unusual among Australian cities, being an entirely planned city outside of any state, similar to Washington, D.C. in the United States or Brasília in Brazil. Following an international contest for the city's design, a blueprint by American architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin was selected and construction commenced in 1913. The Griffins' plan featured geometric motifs such as circles, hexagons and triangles, and was centred on axes aligned with significant topographical landmarks in the Australian Capital Territory. The city's design was influenced by the garden city movement and incorporates significant areas of natural vegetation.
As the seat of the government of Australia, Canberra is home to many important institutions of the federal government, national monuments and museums. This includes Parliament House, the official residence of the monarch's representative the Governor-General, the High Court and numerous government departments and agencies. It is also the location of many social and cultural institutions of national significance such as the Australian War Memorial, the Australian National University, the Royal Australian Mint, the Australian Institute of Sport, the National Gallery, the National Museum and the National Library. The city is also home to many important institutions of the Australian Defence Force including the Royal Military College Duntroon and the Australian Defence Force Academy. It also hosts the majority of foreign embassies in Australia as well as regional headquarters of many international organisations, not-for-profit groups, lobbying groups and professional associations.
Canberra does not have a local council or city government like other Australian cities. The Australian Capital Territory Legislative Assembly performs the roles of both a city council for the city and a territory government for the rest of the Australian Capital Territory. The vast majority of the population of the Territory reside in Canberra though and the city is therefore the primary focus of the ACT Government. However, the federal government maintains authority over the Territory and may overturn local laws. It still maintains control over the area known as the Parliamentary Triangle through the National Capital Authority.
At the 2016 census, the population of Canberra was 395,790. As the city has a high proportion of public servants, the Commonwealth Government contributes the largest percentage of gross territory product and is the largest single employer in Canberra, although not the majority employer. Compared to the national averages, the unemployment rate is lower and the average income higher; tertiary education levels are higher, while the population is younger.
Buses in Canberra; Australia's capital city
In this video we see buses around the city of Canberra; Australia's capital city, being home to the Australian Government at Parliament House, and other important Commonwealth institutions, monuments and museums such as the high court, The Australian War Memorial, the National Gallery of Australia, and more.
Canberra is unique as it's a planned city, designed by architects Walter Burley Griffin and Marion Mahony Griffin, primarily inspired by the Garden City Movement. Today it has a population of over 410,000 people.
Public transport in Canberra is primarily served by bus, run by government owned operator ACTION (Australian Capital Territory Internal Omnibus Network). Canberra implemented a new bus network on the 29th April 2019 to coincide with the opening of the new light rail line, featuring 59 bus routes, which includes nine rapid routes that provide fast and frequent service to key destinations.
In this video we see various buses around Canberra on a weekend. We primarily see buses at City Interchange, but we also see some at Dickson, Belconnen and Gungahlin. The buses seen are MAN A69 18.320's and Scania K320UB's with Custom Coaches, Volgren and Bustech bodywork. A larger variety of buses including older low floors, high floors, and articulated buses can be seen on weekdays.

When ready, browse vacation packages to Canberra:
Canberra is a city which honors Australia’s past and shapes its future, yet #Canberra is far more than a political capital.
At the heart of Canberra’s creation story is Lake Burley Griffin. In 1911, the government launched an international design competition seeking a master plan for a brand new city. The victor, Chicago architect Walter Burley Griffin, won with a garden city design focused on a man-made lake which fits perfectly within the landscape. When, the nation’s Governor General stood in a dusty paddock in 1913 and announced the name of the new capital, he told the nation that the city had, lying before it, a splendid destiny.
Over 100 years later, that destiny has been fulfilled in a city that preserves the great chapters of Australia’s history and continues on to the next. #Vacation here to become a part of it, and keep the memories of your #visit for your own story.
For now, we hope you enjoy watching this #travel #guide as much as we enjoyed making it.

[4K] Walking along Kings Avenue, Canberra ACT - Australia Tourism
Taking a nice walk along Kings Avenue in Canberra, ACT. Beautiful weather and fresh air in Australia's capital.
Kings Avenue is a road in Canberra which goes between New Parliament House (35.307°S 149.127°E), across Lake Burley Griffin at the Kings Avenue Bridge (35.302°S 149.141°E), to Russell near the Australian-American Monument. (35.298°S 149.151°E).
Route:
It begins at State Circle around Capital Hill and forms the border between the suburbs of Parkes and Barton. It passes the National Archives of Australia, Robert Garran offices, Edmund Barton Building, Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture, Bowen Place and Kings Park. It ends at the intersection with Russell Drive.
Significant roads off it include: National Circuit; King George Terrace and King Edward Terrace within the Parliamentary Triangle; and, to the north of the Lake, Parkes Way, the major thoroughfare from the Canberra airport to the city.
The road was originally named Federal Avenue by the architect of Canberra, Walter Burley Griffin. Principal roads in Canberra are laid out in a geometrical pattern when viewed on a map. One of the predominant features forming this geometry is Capital Hill with major roads (Avenues) emanating radially from it. Two of these roads form the Parliamentary Triangle incorporating bridges crossing Lake Burley Griffin. Walter Burley Griffin wanted to name these major avenues with grand names reflecting the reason for the creation of the city with the names Commonwealth Avenue and Federal Avenue. The government had different ideas; it renamed the road after the Sovereign at the time King George V.
The act of renaming the road from Federal Avenue to Kings Avenue gives rise to two interpretations of the name of Commonwealth Avenue. Rather than the name of the new nation Commonwealth of Australia and Federal Avenue for the federation of the states that formed that nation, the interpretation is now Commonwealth Avenue for the Commonwealth of British Colonies and Kings Avenue for the Sovereign of that Commonwealth, violating Griffin's original intent.
The speed limit on Kings Avenue is 60 km/h from the State Circle end to the southwestern side of Kings Avenue Bridge. The speed limit over the bridge and up to the Parkes Way overpass is 80 km/h.

[4K] Walking around Australia's Parliament House in Canberra Australia's Capital - Australia Tourism
This was going to a tough one, but I did it. A walk around the Australian Parliament House in Canberra. I checked with the Australian Federal Police before entering the premises to see if it was ok to film and they granted me permission. This is the heart of Australia's politics and where the big decisions are made. Filmed in 4K with GoPro Hero 7 Black
Parliament House is the meeting place of the Parliament of Australia, located in Canberra, the capital of Australia. The building was designed by Mitchell/Giurgola & Thorp Architects and built by a Concrete Constructions and John Holland joint venture. It was opened on 9 May 1988 by Elizabeth II, Queen of Australia. It cost more than A$1.1 billion to build.
Federal Parliament meetings were held in Melbourne until 1927. Between 1927 and 1988, the Parliament of Australia met in the Provisional Parliament House, which is now known as Old Parliament House. Construction of Australia's permanent Parliament House was delayed while its location was debated. Construction of the new building began in 1981. The principal design of the structure is based on the shape of two boomerangs and is topped by an 81-metre (266 ft) flagpole.
Parliament House contains 4,700 rooms, and many areas are open to the public. The main foyer contains a marble staircase and leads to the Great Hall, which has a large tapestry on display. The House of Representatives chamber is decorated green, while the Senate chamber has a red colour scheme. Between the two chambers is the Members' Hall, which has a water feature and is not open to the public. The Ministerial Wing houses the office of the prime minister and other ministers.
Filmed with GoPro Hero 7 Black and G6 gimbal.

[4K] Walking to the Australian War Memorial Part 1 - Canberra - Australia Tourism
A gorgeous day walk to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra. This Part 1 featuring the exterior of the Memorial.
The Australian War Memorial is Australia's national memorial to the members of its armed forces and supporting organisations who have died or participated in wars involving the Commonwealth of Australia, and some conflicts involving personnel from the Australian colonies prior to Federation. The memorial includes an extensive national military museum. The Australian War Memorial was opened in 1941, and is widely regarded as one of the most significant memorials of its type in the world.[citation needed]
The Memorial is located in Australia's capital, Canberra. It is the north terminus of the city's ceremonial land axis, which stretches from Parliament House on Capital Hill along a line passing through the summit of the cone-shaped Mount Ainslie to the northeast. No continuous roadway links the two points, but there is a clear line of sight from the front balcony of Parliament House to the War Memorial, and from the front steps of the War Memorial back to Parliament House.
The Australian War Memorial consists of three parts: the Commemorative Area (shrine) including the Hall of Memory with the Tomb of the Unknown Australian Soldier, the Memorial's galleries (museum) and Research Centre (records). The Memorial also has an outdoor Sculpture Garden. The Memorial is currently open daily from 10am until 5pm, except on Christmas Day.
Many people include Anzac Parade as part of the Australian War Memorial because of the Parade's physical design leading up to the War Memorial, but it is maintained separately by the National Capital Authority (NCA).
