The Bushmills Distillery is a fascinating place to visit. One is unable to film the actual processes but I can honestly say they are amazing as was the tasting afterwards . Then off to Coleraine and other coastal spots .The Giants Causeway as magical as ever . Then back to Bushmills Inn for a meal that no words could do justice to .It was more than fabulous ,,,,,,,,,As was the Guinness

As you may already know, we travelled to Northern Ireland on 28th March for Emily's 24th birthday. Overall, we stayed in Londonderry for 5 days and travelled to some of the most beautiful sites along the northern coast.
In part two of our vlogs we visited The Old Bushmills Distillery and The Giant's Causeway. We had a great time discovering how Bushmills make there whiskey.. and also having a taste at the end of the tour! The Giant's Causeway was such a beautiful, fascinating site. This was definitely our favourite day.

Giant's Causeway Tour - Part of the Causeway Coast NI ????
The Giants Causeway Northern Ireland is one of the North of Ireland's most interesting tourist attractions. So if you have the chance to tour the location - most definitely do! The Giants Causeway is 3 miles from Bushmills, another famous town in this part of the country. Part of the Causeway Coast Way - it is a National Trust site that is also Northern Ireland's first UNESCO World Heritage Site.
There are some places in this world which are God's creation, no human being ever interfered in them and the Giant's Causeway in Northern Ireland is one of these different locations and which is now attracting lots of tourists to it who want to explore this place that stands on the list of places to visit in Northern Ireland.
The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns which are the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption. It is located in county Antrim on the north coast of Northern Ireland which is about three miles northeast of the town of Bushmills (
In addition to being declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO back in 1986, the Giant's Causeway was also declared a national nature reserve in 1987 by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland. These are enough reasons to bring people to visit this place in Northern Ireland but it is also important to mention that the Giant's Causeway was also named the fourth greatest natural wonder in the United Kingdom.
These columns that are forming the Giant's Causeway are hexagonal in their shape although some of them are with eight sides, the tallest of them is about 12 meters high and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 meters thick in places.
Six million years ago, Antrim was subject to intense volcanic activity and that was when the Giant's Causeway came to life although now in the 20th century people are not sure whether this was a volcanic effect creation, was man-made or else was related to other ways that had led to its appearance. According to some weather conditions, the top of the lower Basalts formed the Inter Basaltic Bed which is the band of reddish rock that is one of the features related to this area. The same action of this weather created circular formations round a nugget of basalt which are locally known as giants eyes.
The Causeway has many legends and stories to tell - from Finn McCool the Giant and his Giant's Boot to the Wishing Chair. One of these legends say that the Giant's Causeway is the remains of a causeway built by a giant. This legend is all about the Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill from the Fenian Cycle of Gaelic mythology who was challenged to a fight by the Scottish giant Benandonner. There are two versions for this story, one says that Fionn defeated Benandonner and the other version says that Fionn hid from Benandonner. The rest of the story says that when Benandonner saw the size of the baby of Fionn, he traveled back to Scotland destroying the causeway behind him and this led to the appearance of the Giant's Causeway which we tend to see and visit today (
It is always interesting to hear those legendary stories that are related to the touristic locations that people go to visit in specific countries around the world and this was the one story related to the Giant's Causeway that is located in county Antrim in Northern Ireland. We have been there several times before to explore the place and bring the things it has to offer for the tourists coming to check it all (
There are some touristic attractions that are located close to the Giant's Causeway, so in addition to visiting Bushmills town, one could also visit Ballycastle ( move a little bit to reach the Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge ( or get a little bit further to reach Ballintoy Harbour ( keep in mind that some of these locations happen to be the locations where Game of Thrones movie was filmed.
The Giant's Causeway is not just a touristic attraction for the story behind its appearance, but it is also a haven for some sea birds and also the National Trust has made an inventory of rare and interesting plants which have survived the feet of thousands of visitors throughout the years there.
The Giant's Causeway Visitor Centre is open and welcoming tourists and visitors all year long except during Christmas Day and New Years Day, so you could plan a trip anytime during the year while putting in mind these two different days to enjoy the beauty of creation of this old historical place.

Bushmills is a village on the north coast of County Antrim, Northern Ireland. Bushmills is located 60 miles from Belfast, 11 miles from Ballycastle and 9 miles from Coleraine. Bushmills owes its name to the River Bush and to a large watermill that was built there in the early 17th century.
The village is best known as the location of the Old Bushmills Distillery. The distillery's products include the Bushmills Original and Black Bush blends, as well as the 10-, 12-, 16-, and 21-year-old Bushmills Single Malts. To celebrate the 400th anniversary of distilling starting in the area the distillery released a unique whiskey called the 1608 which included crystal malt. The distillery draws its water, not from the River Bush itself, but from a tributary known as Saint Columbs Rill. The Giant's Causeway, which attracts over two million visitors per year, is located 2 miles (3.2 km) north of the town.
Bushmills railway station opened on 28 January 1883, but finally closed on 1 October 1949. There is a narrow-gauge steam train running in the summer from Bushmills to the Giant's Causeway.
The Belfast-Derry railway line run by Northern Ireland Railways connects to Coleraine and along the branch line to Portrush. Local Ulsterbus provides connections to the railway stations. There is a scenic walk of 7 miles from Portrush alongside Dunluce Castle and the Giant's Causeway and Bushmills Railway.

The Giant's Causeway is an area of about 40,000 interlocking basalt columns, the result of an ancient volcanic fissure eruption.It is located in County Antrim on the north coast of Northern Ireland, about three miles (4.8 km) northeast of the town of Bushmills.
It was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986, and a national nature reserve in 1987 by the Department of the Environment for Northern Ireland. In a 2005 poll of Radio Times readers, the Giant's Causeway was named as the fourth greatest natural wonder in the United Kingdom.[5] The tops of the columns form stepping stones that lead from the cliff foot and disappear under the sea. Most of the columns are hexagonal, although there are also some with four, five, seven or eight sides. The tallest are about 12 metres (39 ft) high, and the solidified lava in the cliffs is 28 metres (92 ft) thick in places.
Much of the Giant's Causeway and Causeway Coast World Heritage Site is today owned and managed by the National Trust and it is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Northern Ireland. Access to the Giant’s Causeway is free of charge: it is not necessary to go via the visitors centre, which charges a fee. The remainder of the site is owned by the Crown Estate and a number of private landowners.
Around 50 to 60 million years ago, during the Paleocene Epoch, Antrim was subject to intense volcanic activity, when highly fluid molten basalt intruded through chalk beds to form an extensive lava plateau. As the lava cooled, contraction occurred. Horizontal contraction fractured in a similar way to drying mud, with the cracks propagating down as the mass cooled, leaving pillar like structures, which are also fractured horizontally into biscuits. In many cases the horizontal fracture has resulted in a bottom face that is convex while the upper face of the lower segment is concave, producing what are called ball and socket joints. The size of the columns is primarily determined by the speed at which lava from a volcanic eruption cools. The extensive fracture network produced the distinctive columns seen today. The basalts were originally part of a great volcanic plateau called the Thulean Plateau which formed during the Paleocene.
According to legend, the columns are the remains of a causeway built by a giant. The story goes that the Irish giant Fionn mac Cumhaill (Finn MacCool), from the Fenian Cycle of Gaelic mythology, was challenged to a fight by the Scottish giant Benandonner. Fionn accepted the challenge and built the causeway across the North Channel so that the two giants could meet. In one version of the story, Fionn defeats Benandonner. In another, Fionn hides from Benandonner when he realises that his foe is much bigger than he is. Fionn's wife, Oonagh, disguises Fionn as a baby and tucks him in a cradle. When Benandonner sees the size of the 'baby', he reckons that its father, Fionn, must be a giant among giants. He flees back to Scotland in fright, destroying the causeway behind him so that Fionn would be unable to chase him down. Across the sea, there are identical basalt columns (a part of the same ancient lava flow) at Fingal's Cave on the Scottish isle of Staffa, and it is possible that the story was influenced by this.
In overall Irish mythology, Fionn mac Cumhaill is not a giant but a hero with supernatural abilities, contrary to what this particular legend may suggest. In Fairy and Folk Tales of the Irish Peasantry (1888) it is noted that, over time, the pagan gods of Ireland [...] grew smaller and smaller in the popular imagination, until they turned into the fairies; the pagan heroes grew bigger and bigger, until they turned into the giants. There are no surviving pre-Christian stories about the Giant's Causeway, but it may have originally been associated with the Fomorians (Fomhóraigh); the Irish name Clochán na bhFomhóraigh or Clochán na bhFomhórach means stepping stones of the Fomhóraigh. The Fomhóraigh are a race of supernatural beings in Irish mythology who were sometimes described as giants and who may have originally been part of a pre-Christian pantheon.
