Wonders of Wyoming : Historic Downtown Rock Springs
From 1930, Tom Wilkinspeak shows you the real history of downtown Rock Springs, Wyoming... from the city hall, which is now a museum, to the effects of the great depression a year earlier. A prospector who came to Rock Springs in 1850 reports of the coal mines in the area. Also mentioned is the Rock Springs massacre, which occurred in 1885. This and the White Mountain episode, were dug out of my attic film collection. I have more that will be put on soon.

Fort Bridger Wyoming
Fort Bridger was a trading outpost in the 19th century. It was a resupply point for the wagon trains heading west. It was also commonly used to trade with the local Native Americans.
Fort Bridger State Historic Site
Fort Bridger State Historic Site can be reached by taking Interstate 80, Exit 34 then going approximately 3 miles to the town of Ft.Bridger. The site is on the south side of the highway behind the bronze statue of Jim Bridger.
Established by Jim Bridger and Louis Vasquez in 1843 as an emigrant supply stop along the Oregon Trail. It was obtained by the Mormons in the early 1850s, and then became a military outpost in 1858. In 1933, the property was dedicated as a Wyoming Historical Landmark and Museum.
There are several restored historical buildings from the military time period, a reconstructed of the trading post operated by Jim Bridger, and an interpretive archaeological site containing the base of the cobble rock wall built by the Mormons during their occupation of the fort. All of these locations are signed in Braille. In addition, a museum containing artifacts from the various different historical time periods is housed in the 1888 stone barracks building. There are gift shops in both the museum and the reconstructed trading post. There is no camping available at Fort Bridger. Wyoming State Parks, Historic Sites and Trails is celebrating its' 75th Anniversary. wyoparks.org
Historic South Pass City and Carissa Mine – A Wyoming Ghost Town – near Lander, Wyoming
Historic South Pass City and Carissa Mine – A Wyoming Ghost Town – near Lander, Wyoming.
South Pass City sprang up when gold was discovered in the area in 1866. Up to three thousand people called this town home in the Wind River Mountains of Wyoming, approximately 35 miles south of Lander.
Unfortunately, major gold deposits were never found and by the mid 1870’s the town dwindled to just 100 people. Over the next century the town declined further until the last pioneer family moved in 1949. The town fell into disrepair until the end of the 20th century when efforts were taken to renew the community.
The Carissa Mine was the primary economic engine for South Pass City. In 1928 new money helped build a modern mill and support buildings but the precious metals were exhausted in a couple of decades. The gold mine and mill closed permanently in 1949.
The Friends of South Pass is a non-profit committed to preserving the rich history of South Pass City. They preserved more than 30 structures and the town is listed on the National Register of Historical Places.
The Friends of South Pass volunteer, host events & support the historic site financially, making sure South Pass City’s future is bright. An informative website is only a click away:

Fort Caspar, Wyoming, United states
Fort Caspar, Wyoming, United States 2005, museum and historic site by City of Casper
Fort Caspar was a military post of the United States Army in present-day Wyoming, named after 2nd Lieutenant Caspar Collins, a U.S. Army officer who was killed in the 1865 Battle of the Platte Bridge Station against the Lakota and Cheyenne. Originally founded in 1859 along the banks of the North Platte River as a trading post and toll bridge on the Oregon Trail, the post was later taken over by the Army and named Platte Bridge Station to protect emigrants and the telegraph line against raids from Lakota and Cheyenne in the ongoing wars between those nations and the United States. The site of the fort, near the intersection of 13th Street and Wyoming Boulevard in Casper, Wyoming, is listed in the National Register of Historic Places and is now owned and operated by the City of Casper as the Fort Caspar Museum and Historic Site.

Cheyenne, WY, Magic City of the Plains
We visited Cheyenne , WY for several days, July 2015, on our way back to Colorado after trip to Yellowstone National Park. Although it is the capital of Wyoming, it is a small city with ca. 63,000 population, Cheyenne has a lot of old west history. We had nice visit of the state capital, and had nice meals and shopping in the old town area.
