World’s first Forest City under construction in China, runs on renewable energy - TomoNews
LIUZHOU, CHINA — The world’s first forest city, designed by Italian architect Stefano Boeri, is currently under construction in southern China. It is expected to be completed by 2020.
The Forest City is located in the mountainous region north of city of Liuzhou. It will host 30,000 people and it has everything that a typical city provides, such as offices, houses, hotels, hospitals and schools.
A total of 40,000 trees and almost one million plants from more than 100 species will be planted in building facades, parks and city streets. The trees and plants will absorb an estimated 10,000 tons of carbon dioxide and 57 tons of pollutants each year and produce 900 tons of oxygen in exchange.
The buildings will draw on geothermal energy to provide cooling and heating for interior air-conditioning. Solar panels will be installed over the roofs for harvesting solar energy.
A fast rail line will be connecting the Forest City to the existing city of Liuzhou, a metropolis with a population of more than 3.7 million.
Vertical forest is a popular concept in architecture nowadays. Nanjing, a city in eastern China, is currently building two green towers which can absorb 25 tons of carbon dioxide. Taipei is also building its carbon-eating Tao Zhu Yin Yuan tower, which is said to be able to absorb 130 tons of carbon dioxide emissions.
China has been fighting severe air pollution over the past few years. Dozens of Chinese cities would be covered by thick and toxic smog for days in almost every month. Despite the country’s efforts in tackling the pollution, such as restrictions on driving and investments in renewable energy projects, the effect of such measures remain minimal.

(Liuzhou Luosifen is also known as Liuzhou rice noodles with river snails.) Summer is the on-season for processing sweet bamboo shoots. I made some pickled bamboo shoots. River snails and pork bones are stewed for hours to make a delicious stock. A handful of rice noodles, a few slices of vegetables, pickled bamboo shoots and green beans, chunks of wood ear fungus and dried daikon radish. Just before serving, sprinkle it up with pan-fried peanuts and tofu skin, and add a spoonful of chili oil. Sour, pungent, savory, mouthwatering, and steaming - this is how a bowl of Liuzhou Luosifen, the legendary cuisine that has been listed as one of the
intangible cultural heritages of China, is made.

China Is Building An Urban Forest City
The Master Plan by Stefano Boeri Architetti for a new green city that fights air pollution is now under construction in China. The Liuzhou Forest City is commissioned by Liuzhou Municipality Urban Planning.
The first Chinese Forest City by Stefano Boeri Architetti is turning into reality. A city where offices, houses, hotels, hospitals and schools are entirely covered by plants and trees.
Once completed, the new city will host 30,000 people, absorb almost 10,000 tons of CO2 and 57 tons of pollutants per year and produce approximately 900 tons of oxygen.
Liuzhou Forest City will be built in the north of Liuzhou, in the mountain area of Guangxi, in the southern part of China; in an area that covers 175 hectares along the Liujiang river.

China parcel bombs: 7 killed and dozens injured in explosions across Liuzhou city - TomoNews
LIUZHOU CITY, CHINA — At least seven people were killed and dozens injured after blasts in as many as 17 locations went off across Liuzhou city in China's southern Guangxi province on Wednesday afternoon, Chinese state media reported.
The explosions went off in Liucheng county and the surrounding areas, with the first blast heard around 3:50 p.m., according to state-run Xinhua news agency.
Five victims died at the scene, while one died in the hospital. CCTV News have updated the death toll to seven over their Twitter account.
Rescue crews have been rushed to the scene of the explosions.
Initial investigations found that the bombs could have been concealed inside express delivery packages.
Explosions were reported at 15 locations, including a shopping mall, prison, a county government building, supermarket, bus station, hospital, vegetable market and a disease control center, the Nanguo Morning Paper reported on Weibo. State-run CCTV News updated over Twitter 17 reported blasts.
According to CCTV News, terrorism is being ruled out and the incident is being investigated as a criminal act. CCTV News is also reporting that police have said a 33-year-old man surnamed Wei is suspected to be involved with the explosions.
