BARCELONA WALK | Citadel Park incl. Waterfall and Boating Lake | Spain
A first-person perspective Barcelona walk tour of Citadel Park (Parc de la Ciutadella), a beautiful park with monumental waterfall, boating lake and Parliament of Catalonia building.
Experience all of the sights and sounds as Watched Walker (yes, I’m talking about myself in the third person) takes us on a walking tour through the streets of Barcelona, featuring a walk in Barcelona's Citadel Park (Parc de la Ciutadella). The tour begins outside the park's north-western entrance on Passeig de Pujades, then takes a gentle stroll through the park, finishing towards the southern end of the park by the entrance to Barcelona Zoo.
Sights seen along the tour include the Castle of the Three Dragons (Castell dels Tres Dragons), modern sculpture by Antoni Clave, tight-rope walker, boating lake, monumental waterfall (Cascada Monumental) built for the Universal Exposition in 1888 and designed by Fontsere, gold ‘Chariot of Aurora’ (‘Quadriga de l’Aurora') sculpture by Rossend Nobas, Mammoth (Mamut), sculpture ‘To the Catalan Volunteers’ (‘Als Voluntaris Catalans’) by Josep Clarà, Joan Fiveller Square (Plaça de Joan Fiveller), Parliament of Catalonia (Parlament de Catalunya), school (Institut Verdaguer), place of worship (Parroquia Castrense de la Ciutadella), equestrian statue of General Prim (Estàtua eqüestre del general Prim) by Lluís Puiggener, and entrance to Barcelona Zoo (Parc Zoològic de Barcelona).
And in each video I've hidden a blinking eye, can you spot it? (It could appear more than once). In addition to the blinking eye, I've also added the Watched Walker logo to various scenes–it could be on buildings, vehicles or any other objects, so keep an eye out for it too!
Footage recorded June 2017.

Parc de la Ciutadella ✿ Ciutadella Park Barcelona | Travel2planet
What should we visit in Barcelona? The Parc de la Ciutadella, Barcelona’s urban “green lung”, is no ordinary park. In 1869, the demolition of the military citadel, built a century earlier by Philip V, was highly significant for a boom Barcelona with its sights firmly set on the 1888 Universal Exhibition. The result was a park which the architect Josep Fontseré adapted to the needs of the world fair.
Relics of the exhibition can still be seen today in the Parc de la Ciutadella, with buildings such as the Castell dels Tres Dragons, which occupies the original restaurant designed for the exhibition by Domènech i Montaner, the waterfall and lake, designed by Fontseré, and the beautiful plant house, the Umbracle, and glass house, the Hivernacle. Barcelona Zoo has stood on the other side of the park since 1892. The Catalan Parliament stands in the parade ground, in the former military arsenal of the citadel. Nearby, you can see a replica of Josep Llimona’s beautiful sculpture El desconsol (Distress), which is one of the most important pieces of public art in the park.
A giant mammoth and a bandstand are among the other elements which surprise visitors to this vibrant central park in Barcelona, which covers an area of 18 hectares.

The island of Rhodes in southeastern Greece has the longest summer of any of the Greek Islands and a tourist season that starts before April and ends sometime in November. The most popular of the Dodecanese Islands and one of the most popular of all the Greek islands, Rhodes is a multifaceted place, almost like a small country, with a history that has stirred romantics for centuries. It also has some of the best beaches, archaeological sites, restaurants and nightlife in Greece. My Guide to Rhodes will help you make the best of your Greek Island holiday and if you have not yet decided to make Rhodes your destination I hope my photos will convince you.

Walking in the famous Ciutadella Park in Barcelona.

Ciutadella Park in Barcelona is a little piece of Heaven
The Ciutadella Park, was designed and inaugurated in 1881 and it covers an area of 17.42 hectares (31 hectares with the Barcelona Zoo) being located near Barcelona's maritime area in medieval times it has been inhabited by sailors and fishermen .
Currently the Ciutadella Park is an important leisure area in Barcelona where you can walk among palm trees along the park, sit on a bench or on the grass and admire the scenery and hear the parrots. In Ciutadella Park people come to recreate themselves in a green oasis.
Passeig de Lluis Companys is a beautiful pedestrianized area of palm trees on the left and right, which leads from Ciutadella Park to the The Triumphal Arch.
The Trumphal Arc of Barcelona was built in 1888 as the main gateway to the Ciutadella Park Universal Exhibition. The building measures 30 meters high, with the upper part of the arcade decorated with the Barcelona’s coat of arms and the coats of the 49 provinces of Spain.
We recommend visiting the Barcelona Zoo ( ), and on departure you can take a walk through Ciutadella Park, all the way to The Triumphal Arch via Passeig de Lluis Companys.
Live well, love a lot and travel often!

Barcelona Zoo - Next to Parc de la Ciutadella - Barcelona Spain
The Zoo in Barcelona Spain is on every list of things to do in Barcelona. Next to or inside Parc de la Ciutadella. Birds, Chimpanzees, Flamingos, Bears, Seals, Elephants, Reptiles, and also a few roaming birds (peacocks and Herons). They say it is the largest zoo in Spain. At the time of our visit, they were not running at 100%. I don't believe it was season. So it was fairly uneventful, but pleasant at the same time. There was not a crowd. The Barcelona Zoo would be an all day affair if everything was open. The locals say that March is still winter and that their season doesn't start for another month or two.

Barcelona Parc de la Ciutadella
We’re going to have some fun in Barcelona's Parc de la Ciutadella. It's the main park of the city and on this particular day it was jumping and as you'll see. We've got a lot more of those energetic dancers coming up later in the program, part of the weekend of the Merce Festival where we got to sample the foods, listen to the music and enjoy the- people-watching and just stroll about in his beautiful park. This is by far the most popular park in Barcelona and it's also the oldest -- it was opened in 1872.The park has about 70 acres with lovely grass fields, trees and benches. It is only 800 meters east of the Cathedral, so when you're strolling around in the Ribera neighborhood come on over and have a look at the park. The old town pedestrian zone is quite large and you can see the park is almost as big.
Nearly everybody that you see in the park are local residents because tourists just somehow don't seem to be able to find this place. It's another reason why you should spend more than two days when you're visiting Barcelona. There is so much to see in the city as we have presented in our many other movies.
The park is also home to a zoo, science Museum, a giant water fountain, a small, lake and the Catalan Parliament. There are usually a couple of food stands here in decent weather but we really hit the jackpot on this weekend being the Merce Festival. People are out by the thousands and there were over a dozen food wagons with lots of great food, and people having a good time, mingling and striking up conversations. I'll come back after the short dance break with a little history. (music and dance) You'll see lots more of the dancers coming up shortly.
A long time before there was ever a park here it was part of the city. There were thousands of people living here. It was an extension of the la Ribera neighborhood, but 300 years ago it was totally destroyed by a Spanish conqueror, Philip the Fifth of Spain and he demolished everything and built a major fortress occupying the entire area. They said it was the largest fortress in Europe in the early 1700s when he built it. There is a long and complicated history involving the war of Spanish Succession. I'll spare you the details but in summary it was almost a world war that occupied the whole continent of Europe including what amounted to a civil war within Spain pitting the Catalans against the Bourbons. Barcelona lost the war and was occupied for 100 years by the hated Spanish oppressors who were finally pushed out, and in the mid-1800s the Barcelona city officials demolished the fortress, finally creating the park which opened in 1872. That's all the history you're going to get and that's also all the narration you're going to get. The rest of the program is strictly visual, just for people-watching, strolling around and getting back to those wild dancers.
(Music and dance)
