Hotel Traghetto Rome Civitavecchia Room, Breakfast, Port Shuttle Pick Up Point
We were headed for a cruise! It would be a 10N sailing out of Civitavecchia, Rome. The ship was the Norwegian Jade. Cruise like a Norwegian!
We flew into Rome the night before the cruise. Our flight landed at about 7:30pm. We arranged for a private transfer from Rome FCO directly to the Hotel Traghetto in Civitavecchia. It took almost an hour to get to the hotel. By the time we arrived, it was almost 10pm.
First impressions - at night, the immediate vicinity outside the Hotel looked very dark and scary to the tired traveller. Fortunately, the hotel reception told us that there was a good pizza place right next door to the hotel. So after putting down our luggage, we went for a quick dinner, and then went back to the hotel to get some sleep.
The pizzas were quite good. I made another video covering our experience at the pizza place -
The next morning, it was raining quite heavily as we had our breakfast. Fortunately the rain died down after a while. We went to a nearby small supermarket to buy some bottled water. Also, I went to check out the pick-up point for the free cruise shuttle.
To our delight, the pick-up point was very near by and it was possible to wheel our luggage from the hotel to the pick-up point quite easily. The video shows you how near the pick-up point is. I think the biggest advantage with staying at this hotel is its proximity to the pick-up point for the cruise shuttle.
The hotel itself was priced reasonably and clean. Nothing fanciful. We got a family room which had 4 beds to sleep my family for 4. The price was 120 Euros.
There was complimentary Wi-Fi for your own devices which worked well. Ask the reception for the password.
Breakfast was the continental type. See 1:56. The coffee was good. I covered all this in the video.
I would recommend this hotel for its convenient location to the shuttle. A good place to stay if you are in Civitavecchia for a cruise.

From Civitavecchia cruise port to Rome
Civitavecchia-Rome-Civitavecchia (one day in Rome)
How to go to Rome (Colloseum) by train from Civitavecchia cruise port.
Last part of the video shows how to reach Civitavecchia cruise port from Rome.
Civitavecchia cruise port- free shuttle Largo della Pace- walk- Civitavecchia train station(€12) -Ostiense-walk- Piramide-Colloseo- Rome walking tour- Colloseo-Piramide-walk-Ostiense-Civitavecchia- bus (€2)- Largo della Pace- free shuttle service to cruise port.
Detailed description of the video:
□ Civitavecchia cruise port.
□ Take free shuttle bus service to Largo della Pace (Tourist information and service center in Civitavecchia)
□ Walk towards Civitavecchia train station. Get a real glimpse of Civitavecchia. It's actually a nice city to explore. A 30-minute walking tour in Civitavecchia didn't hurt our schedule.
□Buy ticket at the station. There's usually a long queu at the ticket booth. Head towards the kiosk within the train station (where they sell drinks and other small items) and buy BIRG ticket. They don't speak English, so no need to ask questions. Just get your BIRG tickets, €12 per person, valid for a day. Which means you can use the same ticket on your way back, plus you can use it in Rome, bus and Metro, without extra charge. Tickets need to be machine validated before boarding the train.
Or face penalty if you don't.
□Enjoy the train ride. It's faster than a bus. They have toilet facilities inside the train itself.
□Get off at Ostiense station
□Head towards Metro B by taking the underground passage connecting Ostiense and Piramide station at Metro Line.
□Use the same BIRG ticket in Piramide station. Enjoy a quick Metro ride until Colloseo.
□Get off at Colloseo station. This is the Colloseum in Rome.
□Enjoy your Rome tour.
FROM ROME TO CIVITAVECCHIA CRUISE PORT
□Walk back to Colloseum at around 14:00 (2PM) Max is 14:30.
□Metro ride from Colloseo station to Piramide station. Use the same BIRG ticket.
□Get off at Piramide station
□Find your way to Ostiense station. Ask someone for directions or simply get hold of a map if you're not sure.
□Pass the underground passage and walk towards Ostiense station.
□Train ride from Ostiense to Civitavecchia. Use the same BIRG ticket.
□Get off at Civitavecchia train station. Be prepared to wait. The train picks up passengers from each stop.
□Get off at Civitavecchia station.
□Take bus going to Largo della Pace. The bus is right outside the train station. €2 per person. Ticketing booth just nearby.
□Get off at Largo della Pace, Civitavecchia tourist service and information center.
□Get a free shuttle (bus) ride to the cruise port. The bus indicates the Cruise ship.
□There are two (2) stops. The bus stops first to drop new passengers with luggages for check-in. The next stop will be right in front of your cruise ship.
□Enjoy your cruise!

Rome and a Civitavecchia Sail Away
Recorded August 13, 2013
After the Royal Princess docks in Civitavecchia, Italy I spend a rather disappointing day in Rome. Due to large crowds and some transportation issues I wasn't able to see much on this very hot day in Rome. Seen in the video are St. Peter's Square in Vatican City, the Vittoriano, Trevi Fountain, the Spanish Steps, Piazza del Popolo, and the Colosseum. After leaving Rome I return to Civitavecchia and the Royal Princess sails away.
