CLACTON BUS RALLY
The annual Clacton Bus Rally is organised by members of Colne Estuary Preserved Buses (CEPB). As many as 50 buses converge on the car park of Clacton Factory Outlet Village on the first Sunday in June. Many are preserved historical vehicles representing fleets from all over the country. Some are over 70 years old and still going strong. At the other end of the spectrum, local bus and coach operators take the opportunity to show off their most modern vehicles.

Odd-Jobs Record A (1927)
Copyright information on title Educational Film Exchanges, Inc. Introductory intertitle reads: If the job you're holding down seems hard - how would you like going up in the world? Low angle shot of a biplane flying towards, then over the camera. Flirting with an angel was this high flier's down-fall. M/S of the plane which has landed nose down in a field. Several people walk around it.
You've got to get all dressed up to go down to this job -- M/S of a man being strapped into a deep sea diver's outfit. The helmet is placed upon his head and he walks down a ladder into the water.
A job that's not on the level -- Underground tunnel - miners walk past the camera. - but you can take your pick! M/S of man using a pick to mine coal. If you're on the right track - here's where you get ahead fast -- Shot from the front of a locomotive as it moves along railway tracks.
The last of the totem pole carvers -- no vacancy here -- M/S of a man using a hand tool to carve wood. M/S of another man working on a totem pole carving. C/U of the animal shape he is carving. A monument to the Vanishing American! Various shots of a totem pole. (Unreadable intertitle here) M/S of a man with a large number of pots strapped to his back. If you break down - your work goes all to pieces! Several men laden down with pots walk up a steep hill.
High angle shot of a wooden slide which ends in a pool of water. A woman rides a bike down the slope into the pool. Low angle shot of the same slide - impressively high and long! Another shot of the deep sea diver. Dark shots of what looks like a ship on fire.
If you still don't like your own job - as a last resort -- High angle shot of two men's feet and legs. A cigar butt is dropped on the pavement. -you might pick this up. Another man comes along and picks up the butt. But as you see - there's a butt to every job on earth! C/U of lots of cigar and cigarette butts laid out on a board with identifying numbers beside them. Camera tilts up to show the man holding the board - an elderly man with a grey beard. A man approaches him, picks up one of the butts, lights it and walks off.
M/S of a man in a waiter's outfit, he carries a large tray on his head. He climbs aboard a motorcycle and speeds off. A crowd watches. Another shot of him passing the camera with the tray balanced on his head. If you take a tip - it's all over! M/S of the man holding his tray - there seems to be a coffee pot on the tray. M/S of a cyclist on a rolling device. Wider shot reveals two cyclists pedalling
furiously - the energy they produce is driving two model cyclists around a table - presumably they are competing against each other in some kind of game. Close view of the table with the two models whizzing around. Quite strange.
L/S of a group of men working on a suspension bridge. They are balanced on the top of very high metalwork - it looks dangerous. High angle shot of the bridge with traffic passing along it. Low angle shot of men clambering around on the metal frets. Various shots of them edging down the structure - abseiling. Low angle shot of them walking along the top. Low angle shot of a man climbing up the side of a high building. Panning shot of large crowds below watching him. Low angle shot of the climber - people lean out of windows to watch him go past. Presumably this is some kind of stunt. M/S of the top of the building. The man slides down the roof then abseils down the side of what looks like a clock tower. Bring on your Woolworth Building! reads an intertitle.
C/U of the stuntman surrounded by a crowd.
Note: intertitles have the word Curiosities at the top and The Movie Side-show at the bottom. This is one of theWalter Futter's Curiosities in the Eve Pic collection - American films which it appears Pathe bought then retitled for use in the U.K.
Flash frame intertitled. The first features a logo of a genie's lamp with the words Educational Pictures above it and The Spice of the Program below.
The second states Edited and Titled by Herb Brown (The name is in a hand written style and difficult to read but it looks like Herb Brown.)
Blue tinted nitrate print.
Safety neg exists.
