Lake District Walks: Bowness to Far Sawrey via Claife.
A guided walk in the English Lake District, from Bowness piers to Far Sawrey, via Windermere Ferry, Claife Viewing Station and the woods on Claife Heights. The walk follows part of the Beatrix Potter Trail. The terrain is a mix of forest and farm track, woodland paths and a couple of short sections on tarmac roads. Some sections in the woods may be muddy after wet weather, and the walk runs through pasture land, usually occupied by sheep, where dogs must be kept under control.
If you enjoy this walk, please feel free to share on Facebook or other social media.
Claife Station, Far Sawrey
At Claife Heights, is Claife Station, built in the 1790s and now owned by the National Trust - a viewpoint where visitors can look at Lake Windermere. It was most fashionable with tourists in the 1830s and 40s. The windows of the drawing room were the Station's most celebrated feature; each had a different aspect, viewed through different coloured glass (called Claude-glass) to enhance variations in weather and seasons. The tinted glass in these windows was intended to recreate lighting effects in the landscape. Yellow represented summer, orange was for autumn, light green for spring, and light blue for winter. There was also a dark blue for moonlight and a lilac tint to give the impression of a thunderstorm.

Lake District Walks : Claife Heights Guided Walk
A guided walk from Bowness on Windermere to Claife Heights, via the Windermere Ferry. A wonderful walk that begins with a ferry ride across Windermere, before we climb up into the woods and walk along an ancient bridleway, before dropping down to finish our stroll with a pleasant lakeside ramble.

Lake District Walks : Claife Heights and the Cryer of Claife
A wonderful Lake District Walk from Bowness on Windermere to the forest on Claife Heights, on the western shore of Windermere. Featuring a visit to a building the sole purpose of which was for people to look out it's windows, a walk through the woodland on Claife Heights with occasional views of Windermere through the trees, and the story of the Cryer of Claife, a supposedly evil spirit that was blamed by local people for the tragic ferry disaster of 1635.

The Lakeland legacy of Beatrix Potter
There was a lot more to Beatrix Potter than just the famous storybooks. Her legacy and influence extends far beyond these and is still important to the National Trust today.
