MTN Tour of Legends

The MTN Tour of Legends takes place every year around the middle August at the end of the winter season in Southern Africa. The race is held over 3 days. The tour leads aspiring amateur MTN Prestige customers and corporates with a passion for mountain biking from around Southern Africa through approximately 33 000 Hectares of unspoilt nature. The MTN Tour of Legends takes place in and around the Entabeni Private Nature reserve in the Waterberg Mountains deep in the Limpopo province. The participants take on the wild side of Africa in Big 5 territory, traversing some of the most magnificent areas only Africa can offer.

Participate in Teams of Two
All riders must enter as a two-rider team. Teams register in one of threedifferent categories that include Men, Ladies, Mixed. The minimum age of participation is 18 on race day. The riders in a team must remain together at all times during the race and are expected to reach the finish line by 13h00 daily. At each stage, the winners of the day receive prizes and the leaders in the overall classification are awarded their leader jerseys. Special prizes will be awarded to the first CEO / MD, Best captured footage of the day, and best team spirit.

The MTN Tour of Legends is organised and presented with all participants as the main focal point of the event. The participants' satisfaction, well-being and enjoyment of the race are the organisers' primary goals. We aim to deliver a legendary and unforgettable mountain bike and Raw-African experience. Therefore, we offer full service facilities during the race, including luxury 5 star accommodations at the Legend Golf & Safari Resort, top class breakfasts, lunches and dinners, race nutrition and different dazzling African entertainment every evening before dinner.

Brief Route Characteristics
The route of the MTN Tour of Legends is a secret every year! Riders can expect wide open African plains, majestic mountains, deep ravines, indigenous forests and spectacular views, not to mention a rare Big 5 or other wildlife encounter.
The route is characterized by dusty and riveting jeep tracks, challenging rocky outcrops, fast flowing downhill's, meandering river crossings and stunning bush veld single tracks. Riders can expect to ride between 50 -- 60km each day.

Full Service Tour
The MTN Tour of Legends is the most luxurious full-service mountain bike tour in the world. Rider's nutrition, water, isotonic carbohydrate drinks and snacks are available at the feed points to spoil and motivate riders during the event. Full servicing is available halfway on each day, and we'll replace any broken parts at their retail value. We'll have your bike washed, lubed and serviced ready to go after lunch while you enjoy a relaxing rubdown from one of the qualified masseurs

Ha Kome Cave Houses in Teyateyaneng, Lesotho

The Kome Caves are a group of cave dwellings made out of mud in the district of Berea, Lesotho 25 km east of Teyateyaneng.The caves are still inhabited by the descendants of the original people who built the caves. The site has been classified as a National Heritage Site.
The Ha Kome Cave Village is situated at Pulane area in Berea district. The caves were a hideout for the Basia and one Bataung clans during the Lifaqane Wars and cannibalism. The cave is still inhabited by their descendants to this day. There are also faded San paintings in the cave which indicates that the San also occupied the cave some time prior to their arrival albeit briefly.

The Kome Crafts and Information Office that is about 500 metres up the road from the caves houses locally-made crafts including crafts from Lesotho Mountain Crafts in Teyateyaneng, 21 km from the centre. You will also find a tuck shop and a small café at the centre.

At the Kome Crafts and Information Centre you can have picnic and even strike up a barbecue/braai at one of its many stands. The helpful staff at the centre can help you organise pony treks around the Pulane area and even assist you with guided tours of the Kome Cave Village. Catering is available upon request. Camping is permitted but there aren't any shower facilities.

A high clearance vehicle is recommended if you driving down to the centre and sensible footwear for the the trip to the cave dwellings.

Other places of historical significance near the Ha Kome cave dwellings are the Bokhopa pinnacle where cannibals waylaid their grass robes to trap the passersby and a large overhang where that inhabited in Malimong (Place of the cannibals).

BMW Motorrad Club Cape Annual Winter Ride 2017 - Sutherland

My dad and I joined the BMW Motorrad Club Cape for the second time for their annual winter ride to Sutherland. We went over Du Toit's Kloof tunnel through to Montagu and took the gravel roads from there, heading into the Tankwa Karoo up Ouberg Pass as my personal highlight before we got to Sutherland. The next day we left Sutherland on different gravel roads and made our way back to our homes. My dad and I were on the GS 1200 Adventure and the video contains a few snaps from our trip.

Geoff Russels lead our group and got us there and back safe. Till next time, may the roads be dusty and never-ending.

Dimalachite White Water Rafting | Vaal River | Parys

Adrenalin packed white water rafting at its best! Visit Dimalachite if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of town and want to enjoy a bit of country life AND ADVENTURE.

Parys is the centre of white- water activities for Gauteng and surrounding provinces. The Vaal River in this area winds through many bush-clad islands, cascading down a series of beautiful rapids. The rapids are not large by world standards but are challenging enough to provide a navigational challenge, thrills and great fun - as well as the odd capsize.

In normal river flows we use paddle-yourself 2-seater Crocodile inflatables. If you are experienced and have own kit, you may kayak with us and we provide back-up. During high levels we may use 6-8 seater inflatables with a guide on board. We give a safety talk, provide all equipment including life- jackets and helmets, and you are accompanied and led by experienced and qualified river guides. Only one hour drive from Gauteng. - Excellent safety record. - We supply all safety equipment. - No swimming skills needed!

Our river guides are polite, shy and well behaved. - It is safe, comparing to driving in Gauteng. - No engine supplied. - There are no crocodiles in the river. - Back home, the beers at the kiosk will be cold. - Leave jewellery, rolex watches, weapons of mass destruction & suicide tendencies at home. - Bring suitable shoes (slip-ons won’t last), sunglasses strap, hat, sun-screen, towel, swimming costume (or T-shirt & short), change of clothes, prescribed medicine and spirit of adventure.

This trip on the Vaal river starts from Fleet-woods and has rapids like the Gaping Jaws and Paradise where you will be served with a cold-drink, and learn how to surf with a “croc” for a start. This is followed by Dog’s leg, V-Trap and Stepping stones. Up to here it wasn’t very tactical and give you time to get into the feeling of handling the paddle and steer the raft. From Bistro you will enjoy “real” white water, through Theatre (the longest rapid “800meter”) and the one and only “GATSIEN RAPID”, where you will be able to swim through the rapid, play in the jacuzzi and relax under the watchful eyes of our experienced guides. From here you will paddle through Lovers Lane and Knuckle Crusher down to Dimalachite, where you can open a can of the best.

Safety is always our main concern, and we would never put your lives in danger. Even when the river is in flood, we can still do this stretch. Non swimmers, elderly people and kids are also welcome join you on your trip. They will be safe.

The geology of the Vredefort Dome has shaped the river here, and your guide will tell you all about the World Heritage Site and its crater. Famous rapids on the Parys stretch include Big Daddy (or Little Daddy on the alternative route), Claws & Jaws, Paradise, V-trap, Bistro (Look Sharp), Theatre, Gatsien, Choice Assorted, Lovers lane, Knuckle- crusher (or Captain Morgan Rum & Coke on the alternative route.

Enjoy the misty mornings and sunny days, as well as white water rafting trips!!

DURATION: The average trip takes about 4/5 hours. Full day trips from Parys, can be arranged, with lunch on the river. When the river is in flood, the trips will be considerably faster.

BOATS: In normal river flows we use paddle-yourself 2-seater Crocodile inflatables.

PERSONAL items: We supply cold-drinks on route, but you may bring your own refreshments.

PHOTOGRAPHY: Cameras can be carried in our water-resistant bags but we take no responsibility for loss or damage. We generally shoot action photos on the trip and make them available on a CD that you can buy at camp.

END OF TRIP: Enjoy a cold beer/cold drink back at camp. Lunch will be served if you booked it before hand. We have braai facilities in camp that you may use to prepare your own meal. This river rafting experience can be combined with a quad-bike ride, paint-ball, braai and much more.

INDEMNITY: You are required to sign the personal indemnity and waiver undertaking the trip at your own risk. The Vaal is a generally safe river with rapids graded 1-3 (1 is easy, 3 exciting). The higher grade rapids 4-6 are not to be found here. But the river is quite shallow, fast and rocky and not for the faint-hearted. FEE / Tariffs: Your payment needs to be paid up-front into our bank account. Once you let us know whether you are coming and how many, we'll invoice you and provide Internet bank details.

CORPORATE TEAM-BUILDING: is also offered. We can arrange day rafting along with other activities to suit organizations of any size. Dimalachite offer accommodation in Lodges and Chalets as well as camp-sites for the outdoor lovers.
