Full Hike (With Map): All 6 Waterfalls (+2 Bonuses) at the Clark Creek Natural Area in Mississippi
There are waterfalls in Mississippi, if one knows where to look. Away from any major hubs of civilization and tucked in the southwestern corner of the state is the Clark Creek Natural Area. While the main trails reveals only about 8-10 waterfalls, in total there are actually approximately 50 present. Those, plus the steep bluffs, are anomalies when compared to the surrounding flat lowlands.
Deeply shaded paths and cool waters entice hikers during hot weather. However, do not expect an easy walk in the park. The steep hills are unforgiving at times. Parts of the creek could become impassable. There is water, water everywhere, but not a drop to consume.
Otherwise, skip along on the boulders. Bring some lunch. Check out the record-setting plants. And, most of all, enjoy the slow and easy southern living.

Route: Clark Creek Trail-Primitive Trail-Waterfall Trail
Type: Loop (lollipop)
Distance: 4.8 mi.
Elevation Gain: ~200 ft.
Location: Clark Creek State Park, Woodville, Mississippi, USA

My Thoughts:
Mine was definitely the path less taken, as most stuck to the improved trails or followed the creeks. All options allow up-close encounters with quite a few waterfalls, and it is possible to get near the 2 bonus waterfalls along the Primitive Trail, as well, though I am not showing in the video. Most of the hike was heavily shaded, so much that I did not even bother with the sunblock. I also did not dip in the water, but there were other people doing so.
Be careful of visiting immediately after a heavy rain, as the creek bed could be inundated and the trails more treacherous—hence the stairs. But, the waterfalls would be fuller in that case, and perhaps the fifth waterfall could be flowing.

Clark Creek, Mississippi
More than 40 waterfalls pepper the Clark Creek Natural Area, making it a prime locale for ultra-scenic Mississippi hiking. This strenuous lollipop loop follows a rough-and-tumble trail through a series of leg-burning ascents and equally sharp descents. From the trailhead, descend a gravel path, heading southwest through hardwood forest. After 0.4 mile, bear left at the Y-junction to start the loop on a primitive trail. Over the next 3.8 miles, the trail passes through remote stretches where you'll spot waterfalls pouring into rocky coves. At times, the trail traces the streambed, ascends wooded hills, and reveals views of the surrounding countryside. The hike culminates at the base of 2 waterfalls: One is a 25-foot cascade that drips into a rocky alcove; the second is a set of three 25-foot falls that pour into a semi-circular cove. At mile 4.3, the route reconnects with Waypoint 2 and winds back to the trailhead.
Clark Creek Natural Area - Trails and Waterfalls
My recent (11-20-17) hike of the Clark Creek Natural Area in southwestern Mississippi, near Woodville. Comprising more than 700 acres, it is highlighted by some 50 waterfalls, ranging in size from 10 to more than 30 feet in height. Creation and protection of this fabulous area came about in 1978. Please be careful when exploring the 5.6 miles of trail this area, as erosion has already affected some of these trails.

Clark Creek Primitive Trails - Mississippi
Clarks Creek is located down south in Woodville, Ms. The trail is roughly 2.6-3 miles long, yet it is a primitive trail, which means you'll be hiking up hills and walking along the river bed to get to several waterfalls, so it will take up to 4 hours to complete. Don't rush, make a day of it- it's worth it. Be aware of the horse flies, they will bite you!! Bring bug spray or rub clay on your skin and they will not bite you. Also bring a camelbak or tons of water bottles, because you WILL get dehydrated without them. Unless you have rock hard calluses on your feet, wear some kind of water shoes, we found that chacos worked real well.

Clark Creek, Mississippi - Spring Primitive Trail Hike
On the 15th of March 2017 a friend and I went on a hilly day hike round the Clark Creek primitive trail, near Woodville in Mississippi.
We wandered off the trail slightly in some parts, following the creek, for the more fun option of balancing on logs, scrambling across the rocks, and jumping over the water. The weather was perfect - not too cold in the shade, but not too hot when climbing the hills either! And we barely passed anyone else out on the primitive trails past the 3 waterfalls on the main route, so we really got to enjoy the nature to ourselves.
--I know it's far from perfect, but this is my first video, and I'm learning!--

MS Travel Guide - Clark Creek State Park
Mississippi Travel Guide goes to Clark Creek State Park and Nature Area at 366 Fort Adams Road or 366 Fort Adams Pond Road Woodville MS. The park usually has a small entrance fee and is open to the public year round. The park encompasses 700 acres and 4.38 miles of hiking trails (only 1.78 miles of those are improved; the remainder are primitive). Take comfortable hiking shoes, plenty of water and a camera because this place is gorgeous! Pack a small lunch and take a book and you could spend several hours enjoying it.
