Clarkdale, Arizona Centennial Celebration and Bell Ringing 2012.
Residents from Clarkdale joined with their counterparts throughout the State to celebrate Arizona's Centennial on February 14, 2012. Events culminated across the state with bell ringing ceremonies at precisely 2:14 p.m. (on 2-14-12) to celebrate Arizona's 100th year.
In Clarkdale, the Clarkdale-Jerome Elementary School hosted the official Centennial event, including a Centennial Fair, original songs and poetry written and performed by the students, bell choirs, speeches and appearances by local dignitaries, and, of course, a bell ringing ceremony (which lasted for 100 seconds) on the school lawn.
In addition to the ceremony at the school, Town employees and citizens gathered at the steps of the Town Library to ring bells, local business owners rang bells at the Clarkdale Visitor Center, the local Copper Museum's owner rang a homemade gong on Main Street, and the St. Thomas of the Valley Episcopal Church (which will celebrate its Centennial in 2013), rang its bells.
Clarkdale's ceremonies were special, in that Clarkdale is one of only two cities in Arizona that share a Centennial year with the State of Arizona. Founded by Montana Senator and copper magnate William Andrews Clark in 1912, Clarkdale will celebrate its centennial on July 4, 2012!
