Shin Sangho is a remarkable artist in every aspect of his work. Having helped revive Korean ceramics, updating more or less traditional forms and materials with his own versions of Buncheong ware in the eighties and early nineties, he has changed his direction dramatically since then. After extensive travels abroad-to America, Europe and especially to Africa-he was inspired to commence work in what he calls his Dream series, a strong, energetic production of mostly animal forms, imposing images of heads but also of plates and jars which developed in the early nineties. He then developed his series of Fired Painting composed of colorfully designed ceramic tiles. A series labeled Structure & Force followed depicting again dynamic figurative bodies after more and more colorfully glazed animal figures. He recently embarked in a series of fired-paintings described as Wrapping-Future City works.
During the course of this exhibition which we have conceived as a project room, hpgrp gallery and Loveed Fine Arts will exhibit prime examples ranging from all of his major series: Dream of Africa, Structure & Force, Fired Painting and Wrapping-Future City. For the past year or so, the artist has shifted his gear towards a highly experimental phase in both concepts and techniques. This exhibition will be a unique opportunity to discern glimpses of his future possibilities. If most of Shin's career can be described as a limitless quest for creativity, he is now entering a state where his goals are no longer in a linear challenge for change, but in a multidimensional creation through a more complete observation of himself.
Shin Sangho was born in 1947 in Seoul, Korea and received his BFA and MFA from Hongik University, Seoul. Recent exhibitions of his work include a solo exhibition at Longhouse Reserve, East Hampton, NY in 2004; The Shin Sangho Exhibition at the Clayarch Gimhae Museum, South Korea in 2008 and Shin Sangho: Architecture Ceramic Exploration at Boutique Monaco Museum of Art, Seoul in 2010. He also completed recent important public commissions such as the Samsung Town and Kumho Asiana Main Tower in 2008 as well as the Classic 500 Building at Konkuk University in 2009. His work can be found in numerous prestigious museum, corporate and private collections including The National Museum of Contemporary Art, South Korea; Korea Ceramic Foundation, Gyeonggi, South Korea; Clayarch Gimhae Museum, South Korea; Museum of Modern Ceramic Art, Gifu, Japan; Victoria and Albert Museum, London, U.K; National British Museum, London, U.K; National Ceramic Museum, Sèvres, France; Royal Marimont Museum, Brussels, Belgium; Everson Museum, Syracuse, NY; Lowe Art Museum, Miami, FL; Cleveland Museum of Arts, Cleveland, OH; Longhouse Reserve, East Hampton, NY; Royal Ontario Museum, Ontario, Canada; 2002 Korea/Japan World Cup Foundation; The Samsung Foundation, Seoul; LG Fashion Corporation/ Daks, Seoul; Grand Hyatt Hotel, Seoul ; Marriott Hotel Seoul; Kumho Asiana Cultural Foundation, Seoul and The Classic 500, Konkuk University, Seoul, South Korea.

Buncheong Ware
[Anchor Lead]
Offering a unique charm from celadon or white ceramics, Buncheong ware is special for its unsophisticated but free and lively expressions. Exhibitions of Buncheong ware are being held in Gimhae, Gyeongsangnam-do Province, the place of their origin. Let's find out more.
[Pkg]
First-generation female potter Hwang Jong-rye vividly depicted objects from nature, such as reeds and waves, in Buncheong earthenware. These works of ceramic art resemble ink-and-wash paintings as they exude an unsophisticated but simple charm, characteristic of Buncheong ware.
[Soundbite] Hong Hee-joo(Curator, Clayarch Gimhae Museum) : Different from celadon and white porcelain, Buncheong ceramics are more popular, as they were mainly used by ordinary people. They are characterized by their coarse but warm appearance.
Diverse production and descriptive techniques are demonstrated in roughly 200 works presented by nine artists A special exhibition on the theme of the combination of Buncheong pottery and craftwork will also be held at the Gimhae Buncheong Ceramic Museum.
[Soundbite] Jang Eun-ae(Manager, Gimhae Buncheong Ceramic Museum) : We want to show viewers that the respective cultures of ceramics and craftwork are easy to approach.
The two exhibitions, which showcase the charms of Buncheong earthenware, will run until August and March 12, respectively.

SURVIVE. RESIST: Andrew Burton
Buttress is conceived as a vividly coloured architectural structure. As the name suggests, the sculpture is about buttressing -- a structure that lend support to other structures. Buttress is formed from a rearrangement of bricks painted by Kitchener-based street artists: graffiti, often seen as being symptomatic of a dysfunctional cityscape becomes an integral ingredient to a structure that appears to lend stability to the existing architecture. Against the uniform colouring of the original brick building, the vibrant colours of Buttress create an exhilarating contrast.
Andrew Burton was born in London and now lives in Newcastle, UK where he is Professor of Fine Art at Newcastle University. Recent projects include: Bithooras par haath pa Chaap: Making Bithooras (National Craft Museum, New Delhi 2011) -- a project that involved collaborating with villagers from Delhi, India to create a series of architectural structures made from the cow dung that is regularly used for fuel in the area; Tierra del Fuego an installation using bricks reclaimed from the beaches in Xiamen, China (Chinese European Art Center, Xiamen, 2011) and Pen a monumental sculpture that involved restacking 60 tonnes of bricks in the Picardy landscape in Northern France. (S'Imbriquer, Maladrerie St Lazaire, Beauvais, France 2011) His work has been commissioned for the Shanghai World Expo, 2010, for the British Council in Delhi and for the Clayarch Architectural Museum, Gimhae, South Korea.
