Clayburn is a small historic village now located with the City of Abbotsford, in the Central Fraser Valley of British Columbia. Largely surrounded by farmland and green fields, at the western base of Sumas Mountain, the historic centre is situated immediately north and east of the city of Abbotsford's urban sprawl. The settlement is known locally for its early twentieth-century brickworks and brick worker's cottages which line its main street. The name Clayburn is used because in the late 1920s Clayburn was a large producer of clay bricks, and had various factories, some of which still exist today. Clay-mining and brick-making operations were started by John Morton, one of the Three Greenhorns, whose Brickmaker's Claim is now the West End of Vancouver and was thought originally to have been commercially viable for porcelain clay.
