????????2017 Clayoquot Sound Kayaking
This past summer, my internship with the Canadian Wildlife Federation brought me to the beautiful region of Clayoquot Sound, British Columbia on a 10-day kayaking expedition with Outward Bound Canada. Every day we settled at a new beach after many hours of paddling and a team effort to set up camp, unpack and cook over a fire. We saw whales, wolves, birds, insects and many cool intertidal species. On January 16th, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced that the Canadian Wildlife Federation (CWF) will be one of 10 organizations offering new youth programs as part of the Canada Service Corps. CWF's program - The Canadian Conservation Corps (CCC) is a three-part program over a 9-month period for youth ages 18 to 30. Its aim is to engage young Canadians with our natural world and cultural heritage through real-life adventure, service, and reflection. I encourage all those who have a desire to experience nature in a way far beyond what you have ever imagined to check out this really neat program! Find out more at

Connecting to the Land | Hereditary Chief and Economic Development
Everything we do in life is about relationships. For Tyson Atleo, that's the basis for all his work.
Tyson is the 27th generation hereditary leader for the Ahousaht First Nation in British Columbia. In short, he was born into responsibility. Today, he also works at The Nature Conservancy, where his role is to show how Indigenous and non-Indigenous relationships can come together over the state of the natural environment.
He took us into his world, and showed us the beauty that is Ahousaht.
This is his story.

Bringing Back the Light
Bringing Back the Light - Restoring the Life to Canada's Temperate Rainforests
This film explores the practice, the methods and the need for habitat restoration in British Columbia's temperate rainforests. At Central Westcoast Forest Society, we see a clear connection between healthy landscapes and healthy communities. Our coast is one of the most beautiful places in the world, but decades of destructive logging, mining, and development practices have left vast expanses of our temperate rainforest in need of a helping hand. Many wildlife species have become endangered and wild salmon runs that once teemed with life are struggling to survive. Our job is to get the hard work done, and to get it done now. War in the Woods remembered
At its peak in 1993, the War in the Woods drew celebrities and focused international attention on the ancient forests of Clayoquot Sound, 265,000 hectares of old-growth rainforest that surrounds the towns of Tofino and Ucluelet. It also galvanized B.C.’s environmental movement.

Our Living Legacy (Part 1 of 3)
Our Living Legacy: The Threatened Ancient Forests of Vancouver Island and BC's South Coast
This is a powerful new documentary about the campaign to protect the last old-growth forests and forestry jobs on Vancouver Island and BC's South Coast. The fight for ancient forests exploded in 1993 on Vancouver Island in Clayoquot Sound, where thousands of people joined efforts to save the old-growth rainforests, including Dr. David Suzuki and Australian rock band Midnight Oil. In recent years a resurgence in environmental concerns, partly triggered by Al Gore's climate change documentary An Inconvenient Truth, has also been accompanied by a massive expansion of the ancient forest movement again on Vancouver Island, as thousands of environmentalists and forestry workers join together in solidarity at mass rallies organized by the Wilderness Committee in Victoria. See spectacular images of the enormous ancient trees, giant stumps and clearcuts, and the export of raw logs to foreign mills. Interviews/ speeches by Arnold Bercov (Pulp, Paper, and Woodworkers of Canada union), Gisele Martin (Tla-ook Cultural Adventures, Nuu-chah-nulth Nation), Eli Enns (Tla-o-qui-aht Tribal Park Coordinator, Nuu-chah-nulth Nation), Ken James (Youbou TimberLess Society), Valerie Langer (Friends of Clayoquot Sound), Jane Sterk (BC Green Party leader), Bob Simpson (Opposition Forestry Critic), Carole James (NDP BC Leader), and Ken Wu (Wilderness Committee). Also includes a little-known quote by Barack Obama.
