Hey guys on this episode I’ll be taking you through the hike from Raven Lodge to Forbidden Plateau on Vancouver Island, Canada.
The hike begins at the top of Mount Washington, when you see the ski hill you’ll continue past it further up the mountain to Raven Lodge. The lodge itself is off to the right of the start of the hike but this is the starting point. Here we see the map, the raven lodge is in the top right, forbidden plateau is so far away it isn’t even on this map. For the first night we are sleeping at McKenzie Lake not to be confused with Helen Mackenzie lake which isn’t that far from the start.

Hiking to Goldstream Falls, Vancouver Island
Quick hike to some beauty falls on Vancouver Island. This short trail is about 15 to 20 minutes long from Goldstream Provincial Park Campground to the Goldstream falls. It takes you through wonderful old growth forest of Cedars, Douglas firs and ferns.
As you can see in the video, there is a beautiful pool to swim in at the base of the falls.

Stunning wilderness in B.C. identified as ideal park
A stunning swath of coastal wilderness in B.C. has been identified as an ideal spot for a park. The spectacular 800-hectare piece of unspoiled wilderness nestled in the remote Princess Louisa Inlet on British Columbia's Sunshine Coast is for sale. A new charity is trying to raise money to buy the land.

Sunshine Coast, Tofino & Ucluelet
Our annual Mother Daughter Birthday Trip 2016 spent touring the Sunshine Coast, Tofino and Ucluelet.
We started our trek ferrying over to Gibson's B.C., to see Molly's Reach, Sechelt, Halfmoon Bay & Powell River. Did not get to Skookumchuck Narrows though - Next Time!
We Spent the night in Powell RIver then took the Ferry over to Comox in the morning continuing our route down towards Port Alberni, Sproat Lake to see the petroglyphs and then on to Clayoquot Plateau Provincial Park. We stopped to have a lovely swim/lunch at an unknown lake along the Pacific Rim Highway then arrived shortly after at our destination in Tofino.
We spent time on wild coastline, foggy surf beaches in hiking trails and in the air, capping off our time in Ucluelet.

47 Generations of Respect - Clayoquot Sound, British Columbia
Tla-ook Cultural Adventures is an experience not to be missed. If you are venturing all the way out to Tofino, BC for it's beauty and atmosphere than you have to go that little extra distance to Meares Island in Clayoquot Sound; but you'll have to go there by canoe!
Gisele Martin and her husband run Tla-ook Cultural Adventures. It's an award winning tourism business but it runs far deeper than just tourism. They do interpretive cultural walks through old growth cedar forests in several places including Meares Island, and in the process they pass onto you a wealth of fantastic information about their indigenous cultural and heritage. You can tell through their passion and knowledge that they are proud of who they are and where they come from. And as an added bonus to their tours they have you paddle to the island in traditional dug-out canoes, hand carved by Nuu-chah-nulth master carvers Joe, Bill and Carl Martin, all family relatives of Gisele. From start to finish it is a moving experience that helps remind you of the incredible beauty and power of Mother Nature, the importance of the Canadian First Nations cultures and how liberating it is to forget about modern technology for an afternoon!
The tours that Gisele and her family offer are magical. In their own words, Tla-ook Cultural Adventures mission is simple: to share with our guests the beauty of Nuu-chah-nulth Culture and the environment in which it flourished. Simple though it sounds there are thousands of years of history, culture and knowledge implied in that mission statement!
The GCAT crew's afternoon with Gisele on Meares Island was enchanting. We followed a wooden boardwalk through the ancient cedar forest craning our heads back to look up hundreds of feet towards the tops of towering old growth cedars (largest cedar trees in Canada!). Some are as old as 2000 years and feel as if they have spirits of their own breathing out from behind their thick bark. The sun filtered through the forest canopy leaving beams of sunlight streaming through the air. Moss hung down from branches and huge elephant firms, mushrooms and all sorts of other plants filled the forest floor like an exotic botanical garden. We took all of this beauty in as Gisele regaled us with stories of her culture and ancestry.
Canada is blessed with a diversity of traditional cultures. From the French to the Inuit to the First Nations the cultural landscape of our country is vibrant and wide ranging. It is a privilege to enjoy and learn about. When you travel to Tofino on Vancouver Island be sure to book a tour with Gisele at Tla-ook Cultural Adventures ( It will be a highlight of your trip.
Have fun!

SUMMARY
=======
Vancouver Island is in the northeastern Pacific Ocean. It is part of the Canadian province of British Columbia. The island is 460 kilometres (290 mi) in length, 100 kilometres (62 mi) in width at its widest point, and 32,134 km2 (12,407 sq mi) in area. It is the largest island on the West Coast of North America.
The southern part of Vancouver Island and some of the nearby Gulf Islands are the only parts of British Columbia or Western Canada to lie south of the 49th Parallel. This area has one of the warmest climates in Canada, and since the mid-1990s has been mild enough in a few areas to grow subtropical Mediterranean crops such as olives and lemons.Vancouver Island had a population in 2016 of 775,347. Nearly half of that figure (367,770) live in the metropolitan area of Greater Victoria. Other notable cities and towns on Vancouver Island include Nanaimo, Port Alberni, Parksville, Courtenay, and Campbell River. Victoria, the capital city of British Columbia, is located on the island, but the larger city of Vancouver is not – it is on the North American mainland, across the Strait of Georgia from Nanaimo.
Vancouver Island has been the homeland to many indigenous peoples for thousands of years. The island was explored by British and Spanish expeditions in the late 18th century. It was named Quadra's and Vancouver's Island in commemoration of the friendly negotiations held in 1792 by Spanish commander of the Nootka Sound settlement, Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra, and by British naval captain George Vancouver, during the Nootka Crisis. Bodega y Quadra's name was eventually dropped from the name. It is one of several North American locations named after George Vancouver, who explored the Pacific Northwest coast between 1791 and 1794.
Vancouver Island is the world's 43rd largest island, Canada's 11th largest island, and Canada's second most populous island after the Island of Montreal. It is the largest Pacific island anywhere east of New Zealand.
