Walk the Walk is a video showcasing the fantastic Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk, Ireland
Walk the Walk is a video showcasing the fantastic Bray to Greystones Cliff Walk from the stunning sea cliffs to the abundant wildlife.
If you are looking for a bracing and invigorating walk while taking in some clean sea air, look no further than the cliff walk from Bray to Greystones. Begin your journey on Bray Promenade and enjoy the seaside town atmosphere before you move on to the stunning cliff walk where you'll find a huge variety of wildlife and breathtaking scenery.
The coastal walk is 8km in length (5 miles) of cliff-top paths, which snake their way south from the end of Bray esplanade. Next to this is the challenging Bray Head climb, which will take you about an hour to the summit and back. This walk offers spectacular views of the Wicklow Mountains and, if you're lucky, all the way to Wales on a clear day.
These dramatic walks are accessible by a regular DART and bus service from Dublin city centre into the large town of Bray or the charming and bustling town of Greystones.

Bray Head (Irish: Ceann Bhré) is a 241 m (791 ft) hill and headland located in northern County Wicklow, Ireland, between the towns of Bray and Greystones. It forms part of the Wicklow Mountains and is a popular spot with hillwalkers. At the top of the head is a concrete cross which was placed there in 1950 during the holy year. Every Good Friday, hundreds of local people climb to the top of the head in a Good Friday procession marking the stations of the Cross as they go along, with the final station being held at the holy year cross. The headland and adjacent lands were designated under a Special Amenity Area Order in March 2008.
The most direct way to reach the cross at the top (about 190m above sea level) is via an ascending footpath that begins just outside the free car park on the lower, northern slopes, to the south of Bray Esplanade. This is a half-hour walk for a fit person. The footpath, after the initial section with cut steps, is a rough path formed by rainwater and ascending through natural woodland. A more gradual route can be taken from the Southern Cross, by Bray Golf Club, which is easier underfoot. There is also a route which ascends from the Greystones side of the cliff walk; this route leads quite directly up the east side of the hill and as a result is quite steep, Upon reaching the top you can the walk the path along to the cross.
The Dublin-Wicklow railway line runs outside of Bray Head along the coast, sometimes travelling within feet of the cliffs. This line, designed by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, is referred to as Brunel's Folly, due to the ongoing maintenance costs associated with maintaining a cliff-face line. The line had to be diverted on three occasions in 1876, 1879, and 1917. A serious accident occurred on 9 August 1867 when a passenger train derailed on nearby Brandy Hole Viaduct, causing the deaths of two passengers. The rail trip between Dublin and Bray Daly railway station, the nearest station to Bray Head, takes approximately 45 minutes.

Sceiligs View Bray Head Loop Walk, Valentia Island, County Kerry 03082013
This is a moderate 2-3 hour (7 km) loop walking route to Bray Head and along the coastline at the west end of Valentia Island, Co. Kerry in the south west of Ireland. It is a steady climb to the tower with spectacular views along the cliff walk.
Bray Head is located on the western end of Valentia Island, County Kerry. At its summit is Bray Tower, a two-storey abandoned signal tower built by English forces in 1815 during the Napoleonic wars and used as a signal station along with several other Martello towers located all along the Ireland coast. It was designed like a 16th century Irish tower house with a chimney and is surrounded by a stone wall. In 1907 Bray Tower was used by the Navy as signal station and again during WWII it was used for coastal watches. The 90 minute walk to the tower from a new car park is scenic, historical and archaeological walk and well worth the €2 car park charge where you can soak in the views and have a picnic.
From the tower there are great views out west over the Skellig Islands, north looking out over the sheer cliffs to Dingle and south along the Skellig Coast, Portmagee and Puffin Island. If you're lucky you may also be able to see some whales passing the headland in the water below. Just below and west of the tower are the remains of the word EIRE written using stones in large letters to allow pilots during war times to identify the Irish coastline.
Near the car park, is the historic site where the first Trans-Atlantic Cable landed in 1866 which connected North America to the rest of the world. At this time Valentia Island was the centre of the world for communications.
Half the way up to the tower on the south side of the road is a unique heritage site that many miss. Here there are remains of five dry stone buildings from early Christian times with 12 decorated stones, crosses and other geometric shapes engraved on them
