You can read about Clifton Rocks Railway on Wikipedia ( but essentially its a great big 45 degree angle shaft that plunges through the butress wall / cliffs holding Clifton above the city of Bristol. It's been abandoned and in ruins all the time I've lived in Bristol (since 1991). This was filmed in 1994, me aged 23, sneaking into the ruins with a pal of mine.

1: Bristol Urban Excursionist-The Clifton Extension Railway - Redland Station to the Downs. Feb 2018
The first of my exploratory rambles around the City of Bristol, UK. Starting at Redland Station we follow the route of the Clifton Extension Railway through the well-heeled north-central suburbs. We pause to admire a few architectural gems and historical oddities as we wonder through the back streets on a quiet Sunday morning blessed with crisp blue skies. We strike-out across the Downs towards the vantage point looking out across the Avon Gorge and to Wales beyond whilst below us the railway emerges into the valley. On the way back we stop to admire an Englishman's Castle and the Haunted House! So grab a cup of tea, put your feet up and enjoy twenty minutes of perfect relaxing TV.

If you're wondering what to see in 1 Day, join us for this virtual tour of Clifton in Bristol, as we make our way to the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge - the symbol of the city.
We start in Victoria Square and walk through to Boyce's Avenue - site of the Clifton Arcade as well as many charming cafes, coffee shops and independent retailers such as the Primrose Cafe, Saffron, Reg the Veg and Papersmiths.
We cross the road and follow Princess Victoria Street - taking time to explore it's wealth of independent shops, restaurants and cafes, detouring along the way to discover Waterloo Street and The Mall.
Back on Princess Victoria Street, we follow it down to the White Lion on Sion Hill, where we turn right to catch our first view of the iconic Victorian Clifton Suspension Bridge.
We pass the Old Clifton Rocks Railway on our way uphill towards the toll booth at the start of the bridge. Walking onto the bridge gives us a stunning view of the Avon Gorge below on this sunny but windy day.
We continue for an even better view and wind our way up to the Clifton Observatory above St Vincent's Rocks. This site, (which houses a cave once used as a temple in ancient times - known also as Ghyston's cave or Giant's Cave) provides a stunning view of the entire span of the bridge as it straddles the Avon Gorge.

The Loco Klub is a new and exciting underground arts venue opened in the Bristol enterprise zone beneath the passenger shed in Temple Meads.
The project is a creative collaboration between The Invisible Circus and Artspace Lifespace who as sister companies brought you such ground breaking projects as The Island and Pro cathedral. The venue is rising from the ashes of the old railway social club that formerly stood on the site and as well as boasting a series of fabulous performance spaces in the former social club bar rooms also holds a hidden treasure, a series of Brunel built railway arches hidden behind the flock wall paper and wooden panels of the social club, the former ash pits of the original station above these underground caverns are a unique and jaw dropping performance space unlike anything else in the city.
This atmospheric new venue will host a wide variety of arts events and performances including promenade theatre shows, Circus Cabaret, dance performances, music events, markets and exhibitions as well as returning to its roots as a social hub.
The project has so far been supported by many Bristol creatives including Circus City, Raucous Theatre, Watershed, New Dawn Traders, Tobacco factory, Boomtown fair, Bristol Old Vic and youth music project Boom Satsuma and we look forwards to a diverse range of events and happenings from these as well as other local, national and international guests.

Vale Street, Totterdown, Bristol - steep !!
I drive up and down Vale Street, filmed by my friend mikem1966 who also walks down it. This street is allegedly the steepest residential street in England. The gradient at the bottom is 35% - greater than 1 in 3. I thought the car would not make the first ascent due to not enough speed turning into the street. Not bad for a 9 year old Toyota Prius though :)

Bridgnorth Funicular Railway
The Bridgnorth Cliff Railway, also known as the Bridgnorth Funicular Railway or Castle Hill Railway, is a funicular railway in the town of Bridgnorth in the English county of Shropshire. The line links the Low Town of Bridgnorth, adjacent to the River Severn, with the High Town, adjacent to the ruins of Bridgnorth Castle.
The line is one of four funicular railways in the UK built to the same basic design (the others were the Clifton Rocks Railway in Bristol; the Lynton and Lynmouth Cliff Railway in Devon; and the Constitution Hill Railway in Aberystwyth, Wales). It is one of the steepest railways in the country, and at least one source (the information panel outside the top station) claims it is both the steepest and shortest.
