Hello everyone...
The Clifton Suspension Bridge is a suspension bridge spanning the Avon Gorge and the River Avon, linking Clifton in Bristol to Leigh Woods in North Somerset. Since opening in 1864, it has been a toll bridge; the income from which provides funds for its maintenance. The bridge is built to a design by William Henry Barlow and John Hawkshaw,[2] based on an earlier design by Isambard Kingdom Brunel, and contributed to by Sarah Guppy. It is a grade I listed building and forms part of the B3129 road.
The idea of building a bridge across the Avon Gorge originated in 1753. Original plans were for a stone bridge and later iterations were for a wrought iron structure. In 1831, an attempt to build Brunel's design was halted by the Bristol riots, and the revised version of his designs was built after his death and completed in 1864. Although similar in size, the bridge towers are not identical in design, the Clifton tower having side cut-outs, the Leigh tower more pointed arches atop a 110-foot (34 m) red sandstone-clad abutment. Roller-mounted saddles at the top of each tower allow movement of the three independent wrought iron chains on each side when loads pass over the bridge. The bridge deck is suspended by 162 vertical wrought-iron rods in 81 matching pairs.

We were tasked with climbing the chains and replacing faulty lights and cable.
At 6:43 there is footage of inside the tower at the Clifton end.
Here is a video of some chaps doing the same job in 1953, when health and safety wasn't a thing.

The Clifton Bridge Company initially managed the bridge under licence from a charitable trust. The trust subsequently purchased the company shares, completing this in 1949 and took over the running of the bridge using the income from tolls to pay for maintenance. The Clifton Suspension Bridge is a distinctive landmark, used as a symbol of Bristol on postcards, promotional materials, and informational web sites. It was also used as a backdrop to several films and television advertising and programmes. Clifton Suspension Bridge has also been the venue for significant cultural events such as the first modern bungee jump in 1979, the last ever Concorde flight in 2003 and a handover of the Olympic Torch relay in 2012.

EXPLORING BRISTOL :: UK :: CLIFTON SUSPENSION BRIDGE
Bristol is a really fun town to explore because there's something different around every corner. There's historic buildings, scenic nature, bars, microbreweries, farmers markets, museums, and of course the busy city center that reminded me a lot of Chicago. There is something for everyone but you definitely can't see it all in one day - here's just a few clips sights to see on foot :)
P.S. If you're traveling and don't have wifi for GPS, definitely get a map! We got ours from the museum.

Visiting Bristol to see the Clifton Suspension Bridge
Nice sunny day for a walk out of Bristol city to go and see the Clifton Suspension Bridge
Clifton Suspension Bridge - Bristol, UK
Clifton (2019) Bristol, UK What to see in 1 Day - Town to Suspension Bridge
As close to being there, without being there. Do drop us a line in the comments to let us know your thoughts and tips on Bristol.
If you're wondering what to see in 1 Day, join us for this virtual tour of Clifton in Bristol, as we make our way to the famous Clifton Suspension Bridge - the symbol of the city.
We start in Victoria Square and walk through to Boyce's Avenue - site of the Clifton Arcade as well as many charming cafes, coffee shops and independent retailers such as the Primrose Cafe, Saffron, Reg the Veg and Papersmiths.
We cross the road and follow Princess Victoria Street - taking time to explore it's wealth of independent shops, restaurants and cafes, detouring along the way to discover Waterloo Street and The Mall.
Back on Princess Victoria Street, we follow it down to the White Lion on Sion Hill, where we turn right to catch our first view of the iconic Victorian Clifton Suspension Bridge.
We pass the Old Clifton Rocks Railway on our way uphill towards the toll booth at the start of the bridge. Walking onto the bridge gives us a stunning view of the Avon Gorge below on this sunny but windy day.
We continue for an even better view and wind our way up to the Clifton Observatory above St Vincent's Rocks. This site, (which houses a cave once used as a temple in ancient times - known also as Ghyston's cave or Giant's Cave) provides a stunning view of the entire span of the bridge as it straddles the Avon Gorge.
