As you may already know, I love hiking. When we landed in Bogota I knew we had to climb up the famous Monserrate mountain. The peak is at a very respectable 3,152 meters (10,341 feet) above the sea level while the city itself sits at an average altitude of 2,640m (8,660 ft). It is a very hard hike for those who aren't use to climbing up. It will take anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours depending on your skills, shape and ability to handle high altitude.
If you are not the hiking type, you can take the cable car a.k.a teleferico that will take you all the way to the top of Monserrate for a modest fee. You can also take the cable car back down or you can walk.

Explore Bogota's Iconic Landscape,Sendero Quebrada La Vieja,Only open in the mornings but it is great for a morning walk. There are a few trails to choose from.Nice place to breath and think different. Well maintained, the path is safe. There is police throughout the path. You'll be able to watch some fish in the small river and beautiful birds up there. This is the perfect trail for a nice morning hike. Notice this pin doesn't point out to the trail entrance. Visiting Monserrate and Guadalupe Hill in Bogota – Traveling Colombia

Welcome to Colombia
Guadalupe and Monserrate are the hills of the city of Bogota in Colombia. Guadalupe Hill has an altitude of 3,360 (11,020 ft) meters above sea level and is slightly higher than Monserrate Hill. On its top you find a 15m high statue overlooking Bogota, the Virgin of Guadalupe. It is a great place to oversee the city of Bogota and to discover bogota Colombia.
Monserrate hill (Cerro Monserrate Bogota) is much more famous than Guadalupe but also much more touristic. On busy days you might wait some hours to get up only to find its top overcrowded. Monserrate hill reaches up to 3,152 (10,341 ft) meters above sea level and is slightly lower than its neighboring hill. Climbing Monserrate Bogota is about a 1-hour walk up the stairs. The Muiscas, a pre-Colombian indigenous tribe, considered Monserrate sacred. On its top you find lots of space to stroll around, restaurants, souvenir shops, a church, and many places to take selfies. Monserrate hill is not without reason one of the main tourist attractions not only of Bogota but of all Colombia. Those hills are some of the great things to do in Bogota.

I love free walking tours. Most cities have them and you can definitely go on them if you are completely broke. However, I highly suggest tipping the guide $5-$20 because the guide earn a living from these tips. Be fair: if you like the tour and the guide a lot, give as much as you can afford.
Free walking tour of Bogota was very enjoyable because I got to learn the history of the city and of Colombia but I also got to visit some awesome place where I came back later (watch my more recent Bogota Colombia Vlogs for more details).
CLIMBING A GIANT ROCK IN GUATAPÉ, COLOMBIA (EL PEÑOL TRAVEL VLOG) | Eileen Aldis
In this vlog we climb a monolith called En Peñol located near the town of Guatapé, Colombia. Click below for more info and subscribe here:
Ver más vídeos en español:
El Peñol is a giant rock known as 'la piedra más grande de Colombia' (the biggest stone in Colombia). It weighs 66 million tonnes and contains granite and quartz. The first documented climb was in 1954 when three men took five days to reach the top. Nowadays, it takes 740 steps to reach the very top of the man-made tower at the summit. We found that the weather in this part of Colombia changes every twenty minutes or so - we saw both the sun and rain during our climb. The clouds lifted enough at the top for us to enjoy the gorgeous view of the surrounding lakes and landscape. You'll notice what looks like a 'GI' written on the northern face of the rock. The monolith is situated between two towns, Guatapé and El Peñol, and each has fought over ownership over the years. One day the people of Guatapé decided to settle it once and for all by writing 'Guatapé' in huge letters. By the time they had finished the 'G' and the first vertical line of the 'U' the people of El Peñol had taken notice and assembled to stop it. All that remains is an unfinished name and a part of local history that hasn't washed away.

Hiking The Valle De Cocora in Colombia
In this week's episode we're heading out on one of Colombia's most famous hikes in the coffee region near Salento. We climb up to 2,630 meters and enjoy beautiful views over the valley before heading back down to see the enormous wax palm trees up close and personal! These trees are the national tree of Colombia and this hike is amazing. Check it out!

In this 2019 Colombia Vlog we are leaving Bogota and Flying to Santa Marta. Bogota is a nice city but we needed a break from it so we decided to go to a much quieter place. Fun fact: flying from Bogota to Santa Mart costs just as much as taking the bus.
We had a few hours to kill before our flight so we decided to go look for some food in Bogota's Candelaria. The presence of police and many other agencies was overwhelming. Streets were shut down and armed personal was checking people's bags. What was going on? Watch this Bogota vlog to find out :)
Climbing la Quebrada la Vieja (almost) - Miguel in Bogotá
Climbing la Quebrada la Vieja (almost)
Today I set out to climb la Quebrada la Vieja in Bogota. It is a path that goes up a mountain. When you reach the top you supposedly have an amazing view of Bogota. Unfortunately I didn't make it to the top. It's a great walk though and a great workout. The path is open from 5.00 to 10.00 on week days (although it is best to check before you go).
I haven't uploaded a video for a week as I went on holiday to Aruba. Really missed making videos, now that I am back in Bogota I am on the case!
