Hiking up to the Pinnacle, Halls Gap - Grampians, Victoria- Australia
Unfortunately due to bad weather (Rain) we were not able to reach the pinnacle.. Watch video till the end to see how far we reached... :(((
Halls Gap is a town in Victoria, Australia. It is located on Grampians Road, adjacent to the Grampians National Park, in the Shire of Northern Grampians local government area. The town is set in the Fyans Valley at the foot of the Wonderland and Mount William ranges.nAt the 2011 census Halls Gap had a population of 613. The approximate driving time from Melbourne is 3 hours.
From the Main Street of Halls Gap, at the base of the sandstone mountain range that is at the heart of the Grampians National Park, or Gariwerd as it is called in the local Aboriginal language, you can see The Pinnacle. It is one of the rocky spurs jutting out from the jagged cliff faces that loom over the town.
From the street, The Pinnacle appears unnervingly high and potentially difficult to walk. The good news is that it is not, and the views from the lookout make every bit of effort worthwhile. It is one of the very best vantage points in the Grampians National Park for terrific scenic views over a vast expanse of western Victoria.
There are a number of walking options to reach The Pinnacle, varying in distance and difficulty. The easiest route to The Pinnacle departs from the Sundial carpark within the national park and ascends to The Pinnacle via Devils Gap. This is the best route to use if young children or unconfident walkers are part of your walking group. The 4.2km walk will take one and a half to two hours for the return trip. It does include some water crossings and rock-hopping, so good sturdy shoes are essential.
A more challenging walk departs from the aptly named Wonderland carpark and ascends via the impressive Grand Canyon. It does not resemble the American canyon of the same name but is equally impressive with its unique Australian rock formations, albeit on a smaller scale! The walk continues through the Silent Street before rising up to The Pinnacle.
For the really adventurous, you can walk to The Pinnacle from the base of the mountains, starting at the Halls Gap caravan park. This extended walk will take around five hours return so is suitable for fit and experienced walkers.
All these walks offer a variety of incredible rock formations to see and negotiate, as well as lush vegetation that has recovered from bushfires with fresh spurts of new growth. In springtime, wildflowers burst into life with their brilliant bright colours. With an abundance of wildlife living in the park, your walk may also include glimpses of koalas, kangaroos, snakes, skinks and maybe even an echidna or two.
Whichever way you get there, the view from The Pinnacle lookout will astound you. While you get your breath back after your ascent, you will be able to see Halls Gap far below you, as well as Lake Bellfield. Plus you will get a close-up look at the irregular and fascinating rock formations for which the Grampians are so well-known.
The outstanding natural beauty of this area led to its inclusion on the Australian National Heritage List in 2006. For comprehensive information about this natural environment, as well as about the indigenous culture and heritage of the region, a visit to the Brambuk the National Park and Cultural Centre in Halls Gap, which is free to enter and open daily, is a must.
For those with Apple or Android mobile devices, Parks Victoria provides free interactive maps of the park that provide an overview of facilities, walking tracks and distances. So as well as The Pinnacle, all the wonderfully-named park locations such as Jimmy Creek to Mt Zero are now just a click away.
The Grampians National Park is around 260km from Melbourne and 460km from Adelaide. From Melbourne, it is around a three-hour drive by car or alternatively regional rail provides regular services.
Don’t just look at the weathered peaks and escarpments of the park, like The Pinnacle, from your car window on your way to Adelaide. Halls Gap is a great location for a stopover on your journey, so that instead of admiring the rock formations from below, you can take the time to walk to The Pinnacle and view a spectacle more awe-inspiring than anything visible from a city skyscraper.
Hollow Mountain - Grampians Halls Gap, VIC, Australia.
There is easy walk for first 200 m, three most dangerous parts of climbing and breath holdings on its way, and the rest are just fine. Good experience and worth to enjoy beautiful natures. Not recommended for Elderly, kid, and an unathletic person!

The iconic Pinnacle walk and lookout is one of the highlights of the entire Grampians region. Hikers are rewarded with stunning views of Halls Gap and the Grampians' many peaks.
Melbourne Makenzie Falls at the Grampians
This weekend I went camping and had such a wildlife experience hanging out wild kangaroos, going hiking and sightseeing some amazing view points at the Grampians. One of my favorite places were the hidden waterfalls! Watch to find out where they are.

Set your Alarm Clock - The Grampians. Ep.45
THE GRAMPIANS, Victoria ⛰????????
We headed to the popular Grampians with no clue what to expect. We had been told it was Victoria's number one national park, so our expectations were high. ????
Well, after a 5 night stay - we can happily confirm we had a great time exploring this beautiful area!
We setup our caravan at The Plantation Campground, which is a FREE camp????, 10minutes north of Halls Gap! It is technically out of the National Park area so it is DOG FRIENDLY! How good is that. It has plenty of campsites, toilets, bucket showers, bore water taps and lots of fire pits! ????
During our 5 day expedition we did;
- Mt Abrupt summit (6.3km return)
- Wonderland loop - Venus baths, Splitters falls, Grand Canyon & The Pinnacles (9.6km loop)
- Tasted tested ice-cream at the local ice-creamery
- Explored the old Mafeking gold town
- Mt Staplyton summit (4km return)
- Hollow Mountain summit (2.2km return)
- MacKenzie Falls (2km return)
- Visited the Billimina Shelter of Aboriginal rock art (2.2km return)
- Explored some back roads and 4WD tracks around the Grampians
- The Balconies and Reeds lookout (2km return)
We also met up with lots of fellow travelers at our campsite each night. It was great having a chat over the campfire each night with different people. I think it made our stay that much more memorable. ????
Tips;
- go to the info centre and get yourself some maps so you can plan what you want to see. ????
- Plantation campground was quite popular, so make sure you get in early to grab a spot before the backpackers all roll in.
- You can have hot showers at the info centre, in town for $3 per person ????
- Make sure you take a backpack with plenty of snacks, water etc. and wear good walking shoes!
- There were plenty of bins around the Halls Gap town-park to deposit your rubbish ????
Overall a great 5 days exploring the Grampians and we definitely covered some kilometres over those days.
We will rest our legs ready for our next adventure - enroute to Flinders Ranges!

Things to do at Grampians National Park day trip - Victoria, Australia
More info about Grampians National Park:
So, yea, if you are thinking of heading to Grampians, it would take about 3 hours to get to Halls Gap, which is the little town at the base of the mountain. Here you can get a map and also a quick bite to eat. but there isn't really much food there, so bring some of your own.
Mckenzie Falls is the furthest stop away and requires a hike down and back up once all your pictures are taken. it is a beautiful waterfall. Also, keep your eye out for Wallabies hopping around.
Next up is Reeds lookout or Reids, I'm not actually sure. but yeah, this one's great for pictures. no hike required, you can just drive up to it.
Lastly is Boroka Lookout, the view here is great and is the closest to Halls Gap. Also, no hike required, just drive up to the view and enjoy it.
There is one place that we didn't get to visit, and that's the Pinnacle. its a 2-hour hike and we just ran out of time. so yea.
Have fun!

David Mason boulders Grampians classics
Showcasing the great variety of rock in the Grampians, including some gems from the Halls Gap area.
This area was where I enjoyed climbing the most, as the moderates were as good in quality as the harder things. Korean Jesus (V5), shown at the end, was one of my favourite problems from time spent in Australia.
