SNOWDON MOUNTAIN RAILWAY - STEAM TRAIN - Llanberis - Wales - United Kingdom
After our climb up Snowdon the day before we decided the next day to take the Steam Train up to the Summit.
Take the Journey with us to 1085m / 3,560ft. The weather wasn't fantastic for this majestic mountain top adventure but it gives you an insight. Since filming the video a new Station, Café and Tourist Centre has opened at the summit top.
Spanning three centuries the Railway is acutely aware of it's legacy. Recently new carriages have been built and commissioned to ensure that visitors to North Wales can continue to enjoy the unique Mountain Railway experience for many years to come.
Pushed by one of the Hunslet Engine Company diesel locomotives (1985) and the new carriages now seats 74 passengers, 10 per compartment. Departures leave Llanberis every day March to October on the hour and on the half hour. Journey time to the summit is one hour with a 30 minute stop over at the peak.
The Snowdon Lily is built on the original chassis and bogey from the original carriage of 1896. The unique original nature of the railway means that visitors will experience exactly what people did back in 1896 and see for themselves how beautiful the mountain is as they journey through the clouds to Yr Wyddfa, Snowdon.
Pushed by one of three working steam locomotives from 1896, the Snowdon Lily is an accurate re-construction of one of the original Snowdon Mountain Tramroad & Hotels Co Ltd 1896 observation carriages. Its a fantastic adventure and we hope this video gives you an idea of what to look forward to.

Adventurin' Across the UK in 10 Days — UK by Rail | The Travel Intern
We had SUCH A BLAST exploring the UK — we visited Edinburgh in Scotland, explored the areas Bangor, Caernarfon, Snowdonia National Park in Wales, and the beautiful city of London with day trips out. The BritRail pass was actually a real blessing. We only wished we had more time to spend in this beautiful land.
Check out our recommended 10D itinerary here:
Hear our honest reflections about our UK trip towards the end of the video!
LONDON
00:22 - Trafalgar Square
00:24 - London Eye
As with every trip to London, it wouldn’t be complete without visiting Trafalgar Square and seeing beautiful landmarks like the London Eye, Big Ben (it was under construction when we were there!), Tower Bridge, etc.
00:25 - St Paul’s Cathedral
We highly highly highly recommend getting to the top of the dome (via stairs within the cathedral, of course). It gives you BEAUTIFUL views of the city and it’s pretty cool up there, literally and figuratively :-)
00:28 - Tower Bridge
No, this is not the London Bridge that we sang nursery rhymes about in school. Haha. Check the timings to see when the bridge will be lifted to allow certain vessels to pass!
00:35 - Warner Bros. Studio Tour London
‘Nuff said. Potterheads and non-potterheads alike, please please please go for this. We can’t stress this enough.
00:50 - F Cooke
Try one of London’s oldest living fast foods here! Warning: Jellied eels might not appeal to everyone’s tastebuds, but Sherry did enjoy it. Can’t say the same for Travis though. Tip: The chilli/spicy sauce they provide is pretty amaze~
00:57 - Patty&Bun
Worth getting your hands covered with sauce. Trust. Probably one of the best burgers we’ve had!
01:02 - Borough Market
Hash, Soulfood, Monmouth Coffee
The food haven, really. We picked out Hash, Soulfood and Monmouth Coffee because these really really stood out to us. Super duper yummy!!
01:16 - Camden Market
Vintage lovers would LOVE this place. Especially over the weekend! We weren’t really vintage lovers, but we also enjoyed exploring this market. The food was also amazing. Tip: The grilled cheese sandwich is the BOMB!!!!!! There was only one store serving grilled cheese, and the smell is really strong, so…. It should be easy to spot.
DAY TRIP OUT OF LONDON
01:25 - Windsor Castle
We were there when the royal baby was born! It was especially cool because the vibes were amazing, and people were in such high spirits!
Nevertheless, the Windsor Castle is the world’s biggest and oldest occupied castle. Maybe you could catch a peek of the Queen when you visit!
01:33 - Roman Baths
Visit the ancient Roman baths in… well, Bath. The place is one of the world’s best-preserved religious spas. Get to try a sip of spring water from the springs there too! Again, warning: Might not appeal to everyone’s tastebuds. Interesting though!
01:42 - Stonehenge
How could we not visit the Stonehenge when we’re in UK?? Quite a magical and mystical experience, we have to say.
WALES
01:55 - Snowdonia National Park
We took the Snowdon mountain railway up! In the winter, it doesn’t go to the peak (Llanberis) though. The peak is actually the highest point in Wales! We really enjoyed the hike down too.
02:18 - Ainsworth’s
Super yummy fish&chips are served here. Be sure to try their specialty, mushy peas too! Great meal :-)
02:26 - Caernarfon Castle
Explore the castle and outside of it too! In the evenings, the streets outside the castle have lots of people chilling and having drinks by the river.
EDINBURGH
02:39 - Arthur’s Seat
Hike up to the highest point in Edinburgh! It gets SUPER windy up there, to the point that both of us couldn’t stand straight without holding onto a rock or each other for support. Be dressed appropriately!
02:50 - Edinburgh Castle
Visit some of Scotland’s oldest buildings that are still in this castle!
03:01 - Papii Cafe
Strawberry? Yup. Bacon? Yup. Strawberry and bacon??? WOT?? We had this reaction too. But this place was highly recommended by a friend, and so we decided to give it a try. Omg, the two complemented each other so well atop fluffy, yummy buttermilk waffles! It gets pretty crowded during breakfast, so do come early or try to avoid peak hours.
03:05 - Oink
We chanced upon this little eatery while exploring the streets of Edinburgh. They serve pulled pork roast rolls and the portions are SO generous! We were so stuffed!
03:11 - Calton Hill
We recommend catching the sunset here for gorgeous views of the city!

Alex Honnold's Welsh slate climbing experience
While on his Flying Solo tour, we took Alex Honnold to the Welsh slate quarries with pro-climber Hazel Findlay and legend Johnny Dawes.
As Alex says about slate climbing, For the real connoisseur of world climbing I feel like it's a must-visit. But which route do you think he found to be like normal Yosemite climbing?

Llyn Padarn Walk, Llanberis Walks, Snowdonia Walks In Gwynedd, Wales, UK
This Llyn Padarn Walk was about 5 miles in distance. The terrain of the route was a combination of woodland paths, tracks and lanes around Llyn Padarn with some great viewpoints along the way. The walking was mostly easy on level ground except for some steps and a little moderate ascent and descent near the start of the walk. Route finding was easy with obvious paths, good waymarking and good landmarks. There were no stiles to climb over, just one squeeze-stile.

The greatest climbing adventure in the UK!
Climbing the Old Man of Hoy the greatest climbing adventure in the Scotland and the UK...
Alex's surprise 30th birthday present for her husband Craig was to fulfill one of his biggest climbing ambitions which was to climb The Old Man Of Hoy!
The Old Man or Am Bodach is regarded as one the greatest climbing adventures in the UK. Just getting to the towering sandstone sea stack in the Orkney Islands is a long trip and an adventure in itself.
Alex arranged a guided ascent of the spectacular sea stack with Ron Walker (MIC, IML) of Talisman Mountaineering.
The 'Original' (or East Face) Route 460 feet E1 5b was first climbed by Tom Patey, Rusty Baillie and Chris Bonnington in 1966. The climb was fimed during the BBC's first ever live remote outdoor broadcast. I'd eagerly watched this on black and white TV as a 11 year old in 1966 never imagining that I'd ever be climbing such an amazing route...
The pre-digital age video camera footage was saved on an old video tape which has now been finally transferred, converted and edited for upload onto the internet - Enjoy!!

Places to see in ( Llanberis - UK )
Places to see in ( Llanberis - UK )
Llanberis is a village in Gwynedd, northwest Wales, on the southern bank of the lake Llyn Padarn and at the foot of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales. Llanberis takes its name from Moi Tudur, an early Welsh saint. It is twinned with the Italian town of Morbegno in Lombardy.
Llanberis is a popular centre for outdoor activities in Snowdonia, including walking, mountaineering, climbing, mountain biking and pony trekking as well as water sports such as Scuba Diving. The international fell race known as the Snowdon Race (Welsh: Ras Yr Wyddfa) to the summit of Snowdon begins in the village.
The ruins of Dolbadarn Castle, which were famously painted by Richard Wilson and J.M.W. Turner, stand above the village. The 13th century fortress was built by Llywelyn the Great and is a grade I listed building. The churches St Padarn are both grade II* listed buildings, as is the chapel of Capel Coch. In the 18th century Llanberis was the home of the legendary strong woman Marged Ferch Ifan.
Places of interest in and near the village include the Snowdon Mountain Railway, the National Slate Museum, the Llanberis Lake Railway, Llyn Padarn country park and Electric Mountain. Tours of Dinorwig power station are also available from a purpose-built visitor centre.
The village is a popular starting point for ascents of Snowdon because the Llanberis Path begins in the village. Although it is the longest route, it is the least strenuous route to the summit, largely following the line of the Snowdon Mountain Railway. This makes it the most popular walking route on the mountain.
The village used to be served by Llanberis railway station on a branch line of the Carnarvonshire Railway. Passenger services ceased in 1932; freight continued until closure in 1964. The heritage Snowdon Mountain Railway and Llanberis Lake Railway both have stations in the town, but serve primarily as tourist attractions instead of local transport links.
( Llanberis - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Llanberis . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Llanberis - UK

The Tour Of Britain 2013 - Llanberis Wales
My film features various cycling teams as they prepare for and race stage 4 of the 2013 Tour Of Britain bike race from Stoke-on-Trent to Llanberis.
We begin with the bikes being set up for racing before following them as they pass under flamme rouge (A red flag displayed with one kilometre remaining from the finish line of a race) before passing the Snowdon Mountain Railway station in Llanberis and on to the finish line in the Welsh town.
After the race we follow the riders and the teams as the wash the bikes down ready to race stage 5 the next day.

Mark Edwards climbing at Carn Vellan. Cornwall
The Lost climbs of Carn Vellan. Mark Edwards making the second complete ascent of Nuts Are Not The Only Fruit. F8b+. A bolted sports route on Carn Vellan. Cornwall. There were a number of other bolted sport routes on this fantastic overhanging rock face, At the time that these route where climbed they were some of the most difficult done in the uk. . Unfortunately all these sport routes had their hangers cut through, making the climbs impossible to climb. Some time later (many years later) one route , Monster Munch F8b. was rebolted; This route has still not had a secnd ascent so its grade can not be confirmed. After the hangers had been cut through Mark returned , in 1999, to reclimb Blue Sky Lightening F8a. Blue sky Lightening was the first climb attemped on this overhanging section of the wall and Mark climbed it using traditional gear, including stainless steel pegs. During this climb Mark found that these pegs started to break, the heads falling off, He completed the route but it became obviuos that all of the remaining routes on this overhanging section of the rock face would require bolts. It was then decided to make the route into a sport climb, replacing the poor pegs with SS bolts..
After the hanger cutting incident Mark decided to try again to re-climb Blue Sky Lightening using traditional gear . This he did in 1999. The route was re-named REWIND and given the grade of E10 7a. The first rock climb to be given this grade in the UK. As no one has repeated this route this grade is unconfirmed. The route has to be in perfect condition which is infrequently found on this area of rock, There is no doubt that this rock face presents one of the most awe inspiring climbing areas in the UK. Just a walk below it is impressive. Whether the remaining sports climbs are ever re-instated it remains to be seen. Perhaps this video will inspire others to ask that these magnificent climbs are not lost for ever. One last word: There are still climbs to be done here that will certainly be amongst the most difficult in the UK.
