Footage of the return leg
LMS Black Fives 44871 and 45407 'The Lancashire Fusilier' were put in charge of The Railway Touring Company's first Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express of 2013. We see the Black Fives on the outward leg first at Bay Horse and then attacking the climb to Shap Summit. The tour was running from Manchester to Carlisle via Shap and returning over the Settle and Carlisle Railway.
Hope you enjoy.
Britannia chases Galatea up Shap 30/5/15
Here is my footage of a very rare event in the mainline steam world where we see two steam tours without diesel involvement attacking the climb up Shap simultaneously on Saturday 30th May 2015. We first see Jubilee Class 45699 'Galatea' attacking the climb pulling 'The Cumbrian Coast Express' and then in the same frame we see Britannia Class 70000 'Britannia' closely following and awaiting the signals to clear for her attack on the summit.
Hope you enjoy.
Eden: a tribute to Jeff Lamb and the Armathwaite climbers
In the early 1970s the border city of Carlisle became an unlikely epicentre for hard trad climbing and a scene developed that rivalled any in the UK. The atmosphere was competitive, a new E-grading system was born and new milestones were set.
Eden is set around a little known crag close to Carlisle called Armathwaite. It was a meeting place and training venue for the Penrith and Carlisle teams who were looking to make their mark on the British crags.
The film features Pete Whillance, Pete Botteril, Charlie Woodburn and Pete Gunn and is a tribute to a much loved character who changed the face of British climbing, Jeff Lamb.

17/06/62 Rail Tour through Cumberland
17th June 1962.
A North Lincolnshire Rail Tour (NLRT) Special Train - 'The Lincolnshire Poacher', starting at Alford Town station, Lincolnshire heading north west through Yorkshire to Cumberland/ Westmorland. Following the West Coast Main Line the train (steam locomotive: Class V2 2-6-2 60870) thunders up to Shap Summit and then onto Penrith station, where the engine is changed for a pair of BR Ivatt 2MT 2-6-0 engines for the next leg of the route... along the Cockermouth, Keswick & Penrith Railway (CK&PR). The footage shows the climb up to Blencow then on to Penruddock. It picks up again during the Greta Gorge section and shows the train at rest in Keswick station (arrived: 1135/ departed: 1400). The train then heads west to Workington. Here the locomotive is changed again, this time to a Stanier Jubilee 4-6-0. The train departs at 1501 and heads south along the Cumbrian coast route to Ravenglass. The passengers disembark and hop on the laal ratty - The Ravenglass and Eskdale Railway. The Lincolnshire Poacher departs Ravenglass at 1750 and carries on south to Carnforth, arriving at 1922. Here they are reunited with 60870, and head back to Alford Town station, Lincolnshire.

SR 35018 British India Line Powers Through Penrith With 13- The Santa Special 01/12/19
On the 1st of December 2019, West Coast Railways put on the 2nd Santa Special from Lancaster to Carlisle and return via Shap.
SR Merchant Navy 35018 British India Line storms through Penrith Station with a Santa Special from Lancaster to Carlisle and return via Shap.
It was -2 and everyone was freezing but it was so worth it when BIL came storming through with ease (ignoring the diesel on the back)
She left a trail of steam far behind that covered the station, what a sight!
The return run was also seen at Penrith as I wanted to see her here and Oxenholme on the return run as she was scheduled to stop at Grayrigg for a few minutes and my train was meant to overtake her but due to delays (Virgin Trains not having enough staff working today) my train came after BIL had passed Oxenholme.
I hope you enjoy this video.
