CLINTON: The Sawmill Museum
CLINTON, IA - (CBS2/FOX28) This town is known for its rails and its river, but not far from both is a living history lesson in what transformed Clinton from a small hamlet with a few bars, into a boom town! In the late 1800s sawmills sprang up on the banks of the Mississippi River to process millions of logs floated down the waterway from Wisconsin and Minnesota. It is not an exaggeration at all that Clinton and its lumber barons built the nation. As we continue our ROAD TRIPPIN' adventures we take you inside the destination that tells that story so well. Kids can become lumberjacks and parents can relive a fascinating era that probably has connections to the home they live in today. Pack up the car and come along as we take a short drive down Highway 30 to the Clinton Sawmill Museum !

A walking tour of Barkerville, June, 2009. It was great, just like the first time I went when I was only 7 years old. The dentist still bugs me to this day.

Newsreel about expansion of the PGE in 1957 (BC Rail)
The PGE was constructed from Squamish to Quesnel in 1914-16. The goal had been to build the line from North Vancouver to Prince George but the company went under and the government took over the line.
In the early 1950s the Social Credit goverment of WAC Bennett decided to use the PGE as part of their plan to open up northern BC. The line was completed from North Van to Squamish and them from Quesnel to Prince George. After this came the expansion to the Peace. WAC had plans to run the line all the way to the Yukon but these plans were halted in the 1970s with the line only partially completed

The Exploration Place Museum and Science Centre and the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation, Prince George, British Columbia
On June 21, 2017, the Exploration Place Museum and Science Centre in Prince George, British Columbia, and the Lheidli T’enneh First Nation entered into a historic partnership with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding. The agreement named the museum as the legal repository for Lheidli T’enneh materials, with the goal of repatriating collections held by other institutions and creating a central home for the nation’s cultural assets.
To mark this milestone in their long-standing partnership, the Museum and the Lheidli T’enneh opened a new permanent gallery called Hodul’eh-a: A Place of Learning. The museum is located within Lheidli T’enneh Memorial Park, the site of the traditional hunting grounds and village of the Lheidli T’enneh Nation. The gallery is a learning place for community members, with open programming space to allow for knowledge transfer, research, cultural expression and healing. Hodul’eh-a: A Place of Learning serves as a model for how Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities can work together to reclaim traditional spaces, protect cultural assets and promote a greater understanding and respect for Indigenous history and experiences.
