Clock Tower - Ghanta Ghar Faisalabad
The Faisalabad Clock Tower (Local name - Ghanta Ghar) is one of the oldest monuments still standing in its original state from the British era . It was built by the British, when they ruled much of the South Asia during the nineteenth century.
#Facts
1. Location: Faisalabad City Punjab, Pakistan. It is located in the older part of the city.
2. Founded: 14 November 1903 by the British lieutenant governor of Punjab Sir Charles Montgoery Riwaz and the biggest local landlord belonging to the Mian Family of Abdullahpur.
3. Design: The clock is placed at the center of the eight markets that from a bird's-eye view look like the Union Jack flag of the United Kingdom.
4. Ghanta Ghar (Clock Tower) bazaar is made up of eight bazars;
i) Rail Bazar; Bathroom accessories and banks. It is Glod and Cloth market.
ii) Karkhana Bazar; bulk material, crockery, pottery & herbal medicines.
iii) Montgomery Bazar; raw cloth and yarn trading also called Sutr Mandi.
iv) Jhang Bazarl; sells fruits, vegetables, meat and fish.
v) Bhawana Bazar; variety of electronic, electrical goods, home appliances, modern machinery and more.
vi) Chiniot Bazar; curtains, sofa cloth, blankets and cloth.
vi) Katchery Bazar; mobile and its accessories.
vii) AminPur Bazar; books, stationary and interior designing products.
5. The locals refer to it as Ghanta Ghar in Urdu which translates into Hour House in English.
6. Faisalabad with a population of 3.2 million is the third largest city in Pakistan.

Faisalabad clock tower is an icon of the city, it reminds us of the colonial past of the city. The city was initially named after the then governor of Punjab Sir James Lyall. Before that it was called Chenab Colony. In the most recent history it has been renamed as Faisalabad.

The #Faisalabad Clock Tower is a clock tower in ,Punjab #Pakistan, and is one of the oldest monuments still standing in its original state from the period of the British Raj. It was built by the British, when they ruled much of the South Asia during the nineteenth century.
The foundation of majestic #ClockTower was laid on 14 November 1903 by the British lieutenant governor of Punjab Sir Charles Riwaz and the biggest local landlord belonging to the Mian Family of Abdullahpur. The fund was collected at a rate of Rs. 18 per square of land. The fund thus raised was handed over to the Municipal Committee which undertook to complete the project.
#GhantaGhar bazaar is made up of eight bazaars, where local grown produce is bought and sold.
The locals refer to it as Ghanta Ghar گھنٹہ گھر in Urdu which translates into Hour House in English. It is located in the older part of the city. The clock is placed at the center of the eight markets that from a bird's-eye view look like the Union Jack flag of the United Kingdom. This special layout still exists today and can be viewed using the latest software from Google Maps. The eight markets (bazaars) each its unique products type for sales. The bazaars are named to the direction these open towards i.e. Kuthery bazaar, Chinot bazaar, Aminpur bazaar, Bhawana Bazaar, Jhang Bazaar, Montgomery bazaar, Karkhana bazaar and Rail bazaar.
During festivals of Eid and Independence Day the mayor (nazim) of Faisalabad delivers a speech at this site and hangs the flag at full mast.

The foundation stone of Clock Tower (Ghanta Ghar), Faisalabad was laid on 14th November 1903 by Sir Charles Pawaz, the Governor of Punjab. The tower was completed in December 1905 and inaugurated by Sir Lion Toper, finance commissioner.

لائل پور کا نام تبدیل کر کے فیصل آباد رکھا گیا تھا۔
1975ء میں پہلی بار کچہری بازار کے فوٹو گرافر عزیز احمد کی جانب سے لائل پور کا نام تبدیل کر کے فیصل آباد رکھنے کی مہم شروع کی گئی تھی جس کو پذیرائی ملی اور بعد میں شہر کی دیگر سیاسی، سماجی و مذہبی شخصیات بھی اس تحریک کا حصہ بن گئیں۔
16 اپریل 1976ء کو لائل پور کی معروف سماجی شخصیات ثاقب یحیٰی اور ہارون احمد خان نے حکومت کے مختلف عہدے داروں اور اراکین اسمبلی کو خطوط لکھے کہ لائل پور کا نام تبدیل کر کے حضرت بلال حبشی کے نام پر بلال پور رکھا جائے۔
لائل پور کا نام تبدیل کرنے کی مہم کے جواب میں معروف صحافی اور مصنف احمد ندیم قاسمی نے امروز اخبار میں اس حوالے سے ایک طویل مضمون لکھ کر متعدد اعتراضات پیش کیے۔
اس مہم کے دوران لائل پور کا نام تبدیل کر کے بلال پور رکھنے کی مہم چلانے والوں کی جانب سے یہ دلیل بھی دی جاتی رہی کہ خانہ کعبہ اور لائل پور کے آٹھ بازاروں کے نقشے میں بہت حد تک مماثلت ہے لہذا اس کا کوئی اسلامی نام رکھا جانا بے حد ضروری ہے۔
01 ستمبر 1977ء کو وفاقی حکومت نے لائل پور کا نام تبدیل کر کے سعودی عرب کے متوفی فرمانروا شاہ فیصل کے نام پر فیصل آباد رکھ دیا۔
فیصل آباد سے تعلق رکھنے والے معروف ادیب ریاض مجید کے مطابق 1977 میں محکمہ مال کی جانب سے جاری ہونے والے ابتدائی گزٹ نوٹیفکیشن میں لائل پور کا نام 'شاہ فیصل آباد' لکھا گیا تھا جسے تین دن بعد دوبارہ نئے نوٹیفکیشن کے ذریعے تبدیل کر کے فیصل آباد کیا گیاـ
تاہم موجودہ ضلعی انتظامیہ، محکمہ مال، لائلپور ٹاؤن، لائلپور ہیریٹیج فاؤنڈیشن اور لائلپور میوزیم کی انتظامیہ کے مطابق ان کے پاس شہر کا نام تبدیل کیے جانے کا کوئی دستاویزی ریکارڈ دستیاب نہیں ہے۔

Faisalabad formerly known as Lyallpur, is the third-most-populous city in Pakistan, and the second-largest in the eastern province of Punjab. Historically one of the first planned cities within British India, it has long since developed into a cosmopolitan metropolis. Faisalabad was restructured into city district status; a devolution promulgated by the 2001 local government ordinance (LGO).
