Clos De Los Siete | One Minute of Wine Episode #483
Welcome to One Minute of Wine - a daily video series from Elma Wine & Liquor. Join Tim as he reviews a bottle of wine everyday in sixty seconds or less. Today Tim reviews Clos De Los Siete. The word Siete translates to the number 7 in English. Siete is a reference to the number of vineyards used to make this wine. A red blend consisting of Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Petite Verdot. Aromas of blackberry with hints of plum and chocolate. The blackberry shows up first on the palate but then quickly transitions into a dark chocolate flavor with a touch of menthol. Strong tannins for the finish on the Argentinian red blend. Cheers!

Diamandes' Inauguration
It's in 1999 that Michel Rolland along with 6 other Bordeaux winemakers founded the Clos de los Siete : an innovative and unique concept : More than 850 hectares divided in 7 plots, each one with its own winery. The vineyard is located in Mendoza, in the heart of the Uco valley, one of the best quality vineyard areas in Argentina.
In 2005, the Bonnie family, owners of the renowned Grand Cru Classé Château Malartic-Lagravière, and its neighboring Pessac-Léognan Château Gazin Rocquencourt became part of this Argentinean adventure. Through the purchase, along with their partners, of a single estate of 130 hectares within the Clos de Los Siete, Bodega DiamAndes was born.
Nestling in the foothills of the Andes Mountain, at an altitude of 1,100 meters, the Bodega DiamAndes benefits from an ideal terroir: a temperate climate thanks to the altitude, and that together with its sand-gravel-clay soils, allow Malbec - the King of Argentinean grapes- to fully express itself.
The Bonnie family then began extensive works: One hundred hectares of vines have been planted over the past few years, and the winery was fully completed at the end of 2009.
Everything is made for quality winemaking: Handed picking, handed double sorting after cooling the grapes in cold storage chambers, complete gravity process (from the harvest to the bottle), fermentation in small temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks, insulated with a polyurethane double jacket , unique in South America !
Prior to being officially inaugurated, Bodega DiamAndes received above all others the International award 'Best Of Wine Tourism 2011' of Great Wine Capitals for its Architecture, Parks and Gardens!
We invite you to enter into the world of Bodega DiamAndes: to the Vintages' crypt; its circular winery, the professional tasting rooms, the Wine Bar, and then taste its wines that are both complex and seductive, intense and balanced which seduce wine lovers from around the world!

In 2005, the Bonnie family, owner of the renowned Château Malartic-Lagravière (Grand Cru Classé de Graves) and of the Château Gazin Rocquencourt (Pessac-Léognan), decided to leave France in search for new horizons in the world of wine. It all began with the acquisition, along with their partners, of a single 130-hectares (321 acres) block of land in the heart of the Uco Valley, to the south of the city of Mendoza. That is where Bodega DiamAndes was born, as a member of the prestigious Clos de los Siete group. The winery’s architectural design blends harmoniously into the stunning Andean scenery. In this context, the winemaking process has taken place under exceptional conditions since the 2007 vintage.

Our team was visiting Bodegas Rolland to experience first hand the team and the land where the beautiful Mariflor wines are made.
Montesquieu Winery is the exclusive importer to the US of the Rolland Collection Mariflor wines which is owned by Michel and Dany Rolland.
We were not disappointed as the beauty of the Uco Valley surrounded us and the warmth of the people inspired us.

Cuvelier Los Andes Grand Malbec | Wine Review
Wine review, tasting notes, rating and flavor profile of 2014 Cuvelier los Andes Grand Malbec, a vino made in the Valle de Uco, mendoza, Argentina by Bordeaux Grand Cru makers with the healp of star consultant winemaker Michel Rolland.
Watch the full Episode #23 of 'Tasting with Julien' where Julien Miquel explains the Malbec red wines of Argentina, and compares a $20, a $50 (from Terrazas Los Andes) with this $100 Cuvelier Los Andes Grand Malbec and analyzes which one you should buy:
The story begins in 1804 when Henri Cuvelier set out to share his great passion for fine wine with his friends of the grand bourgeoisie residing in the rich and dynamic towns of the North of France, (Lille, Boulogne Sur Mer, Arras, Valenciennes…) To this aim, he created H. Cuvelier And Fils, a wine Merchant company whose rapid success continued to develop throughout the 19th century.
At the beginning of the 20th century, Paul Cuvelier and his young brother Albert, anticipating the inevitable rise in « château-bottled wines » to the detriment of the « tailor-made » blends of the wine merchants, decided to purchase top quality estates in the Bordeaux area. They bought Château Le Crock in 1903, then Château Camensac in 1912 and finally the prestigious Château Léoville Poyferré in 1920. It is interesting to note that, in early 1914, Paul Cuvelier had already come to Argentina, to discover the wines of Mendoza. He found them « pleasant to drink » although not adapted to the French taste at that time. He recommended a watchful eye be kept on their development. In 1946, the family group asked Max Cuvelier to create a second Fine Wine Merchant’s based in Bordeaux. It was, as it transpired, essential to have an address in the Pavé des Chartrons if one wished to be part of the Bordeaux wine world. This company has since flourished both in France and around the world.
In 1998 Bertrand Cuvelier made the happy choice of personally accompanying Michel Rolland in his great Argentine project, which was to become the« Clos de Los Siete »group. Three years later, Jean-Guy Cuvelier decided to join his cousin Bertrand in the joint aim of building a Winery and producing fine wines worthy of the family tradition. The agreement between Bertrand and Jean-Guy Cuvelier was symbolically signed in the great office of their common ancestor, Henri Cuvelier, in Lille-Haubourdin, in the north of France. Since then, the Winery has been built and each year the vines of Cuvelier Los Andes have contributed 50% of their production to « Clos de Los Siete », the wine signed by Michel Rolland. The success of this wine is worldwide due to the exceptional value for money it offers.
The 2003 yield has also allowed the production of the first edition of «Cuvelier Los Andes-Coleccion». Then the 2004 harvest saw the arrival of our first edition of «Cuvelier Los Andes - Grand Vin ». With the 2005, Cuvelier Los Andes S.A., aside from its significant contribution to «Clos de Los Siete», can now present three wines, produced with the help and advice of Michel Rolland: Coleccion - Grand Vin - Grand Malbec. The quality of these wines, produced from young wines, is well beyond our original hopes. Will the Argentine cousins rival in the future with the fine wines of Bordeaux. It is for the consumers to decide. Time will tell.
A last word: We are proud to announce that the new generation has decided to join the crew, taking on the sales and marketing of the Cuvelier Los Andes S.A. wines.
The Cuvelier Los Andes S.A. vineyard was planted in 1999 with a density of 5500 plants per hectare. Today the vineyard stretches over 55 hectares (136 acres) with 10 hectares still to plant.
The main grape variety is Malbec. We have also planted Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah and Petit Verdot. This enables us to create our own blended wines and also contribute to those of Clos de los Siete. Basking in the warm, dry climate of Mendoza, cooled by the refreshing night air of the Andes, our vines are ideally situated to express the character of their various grape varieties in this stony, alluvial gravel soil.

MONTE VIEJO...EN EL VALLE DE UCO (INfocus)
