The Coast Tram is a public transport service connecting the cities and towns along the entire Belgian (West Flanders) coast, between De Panne near the French border and Knokke-Heist. At 68 km (42 miles) in length, it is the longest tram line in the world, as well as one of the few interurban tramways in the world to remain in operation. The line is built at 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) metre gauge and fully electrified at 600 V DC.

The service makes 69 stops along the 68 km long line, with a tram running every ten minutes during the peak summer months (every 20 mins in the winter months), during which it is used by over 3 million passengers. The service has recently been made more accessible through the addition of low-floor centre sections to existing vehicles, and the introduction of a few new HermeLijn low-floor trams.

The Coast Tram between De Panne and Knokke-Heistis is the longest tram line in the world.

Major problems on Belgium Coast Tram (overhead cable burn out)

After already having a problem on the line (which made the trams run on the wrong side and people having to go on the tracks to get on and off), the overhead cables had a short circuit after the tram went across on the points. The short circuit melted the cables (quite spectacularly) due to over current. The cables came down, but as the short circuit was now over they started running the trams like nothing had happened. People were told to walk along a fast busy road by the tracks, right next to a hanging live cable, so that they could get on the tram in front to continue their journey. But the tram left without them, leaving them stranded.

This occurred on the 17/06/2015.
