Portland spectacular. Heart of England's Jurassic Coast World Heritage site
National finalist. The wonderful Free Background Music is by Ukrainian group Origen from:
Portland is a unique island tethered to the mainland by the famous Chesil Beach. It's the source of Portland Stone which has made some of the world's finest buildings. The eyes of the world were on Portland as the home of the 2012 Olympics Sailing events.
This ancient Royal Manor has a long and rich history. It is one of the nation's most important bird migration points, and notable for its rare flora and fauna. The island is famous for challenging cliff climbing.
The surrounding sea is spectacular in storms, but utterly tranquil in a sunset over West Bay. There is always more to find out and to explore.
Note: This is an amateur video made solely by me. Apparently someone thought it was by a 'professional team' - flattering but not true!.

Sailing the UK south coast Weymouth to Brixham across lyme bay
We begin our quest to sail west over to the isles of scilly, (well thats the plan) the first few days hit a snag in the marina due to a storm passing over and blowing 45knots of wind.
Marina fever kicks in and we cant wait to get out sailing, after waiting out the winds we finally set sail across lyme bay to Brixham
Join us on board to follow our adventure west, see where we get too and what the crew gets up to on board.

Dolphin Escort on Jurassic Cruise - Swanage Coast (Danny)
Poole to Swanage return Jurassic Cruise with City Cruises, Poole on 24th May 2019. We left from Poole Harbour, passed Browsea Island and as we left the Harbour a Dolphin joined us at the bow of the boat and escorted us along Shell Bay, Studland Beach, passed Old Harry Rocks and into Swanage Bay. At Swanage Pier, the friendly Bottlenose Dolphin played and swam around the boat, before escorting us back to the Harbour entrance at Poole. It was an amazing experience and unexpected pleasure :-)
This Dolphin has now been identified by Dorset Dolphin Watch as Danny the Dolphin.
Thanks to City Cruises Poole for a brilliant trip!

Places to see in ( Isle of Portland - UK )
Places to see in ( Isle of Portland - UK )
The Isle of Portland is a limestone tied island, 4 miles long by 1.7 miles wide, in the English Channel. Portland is 5 miles south of the resort of Weymouth, forming the southernmost point of the county of Dorset, England.
A barrier beach called the Chesil Beach joins it to the mainland. The A354 road passes down the Portland end of the beach and then over the Fleet Lagoon by bridge to the mainland. Portland and Weymouth together form the borough of Weymouth and Portland.
Portland is a central part of the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site on the Dorset and east Devon coast, important for its geology and landforms. Portland stone, famous for its use in British and world architecture, including St Paul's Cathedral and the United Nations Headquarters, continues to be quarried.
Portland Harbour, in between Portland and Weymouth, is one of the largest man-made harbours in the world. The harbour was made by the building of stone breakwaters between 1848 and 1905. From its inception it was a Royal Navy base, and played prominent roles during the First and Second World Wars; ships of the Royal Navy and NATO countries worked up and exercised in its waters until 1995. The harbour is now a civilian port and popular recreation area, and was used for the 2012 Olympic Games.
The name Portland is used for one of the British Sea Areas, and has been exported as the name of North American and Australian towns. The Isle of Portland lies in the English Channel, 3 kilometres (2 mi) south of Wyke Regis, and 200 km (120 mi) west-southwest of London
The A354 road is the only land access to Portland, via Ferry Bridge, connecting to Weymouth and to the wider road network at the A35 trunk road in Dorchester. It runs from Easton, splitting into a northbound section through Chiswell and a southbound section through Fortuneswell, then along Chesil Beach and across a bridge to the mainland in Wyke Regis. Formerly a branch line railway, connecting to the South West Main Line near Weymouth railway station, also crossed to the island.
( Isle of Portland - UK ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting the city of Isle of Portland . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Isle of Portland - UK

Along the southern coast of Great Britain in the regions of Dorset and East Devon is the Jurassic Coast. As you can see in the video there are all kinds of fun to be had in this dynamic landscape.
In certain areas you can also go fossil hunting, rock climbing, and horseback riding on the beach. And some locals simply like to hike along the cliffs for miles!
