Whether it’s coming down to the rink for a public session, taking up ice hockey, enrolling in a Learn to Skate class, booking a birthday party, or bringing your school down for an excursion, their rink has something for everybody. You can even just visit them for a coffee and a bite to eat in the Frostbite Cafe! Located south of Perth on Progress Drive, Bibra Lake, Cockburn Ice Arena is Perth’s largest and newest ice sports venue, boasting the state’s only full Olympic sized ice rink. Ice skating birthday parties at Cockburn Ice Arena are a great way to celebrate your child's special day! They take the hassle out of organising a birthday party - all you need to do is bring a cake! They offer four great packages with the option to purchase extras! Bookings are essential, and their tables fill up quickly, so please make sure you book well in advance. The most popular sessions for birthday parties are on Saturday and Sunday from 1pm-3pm. Friday and Saturday night sessions are also a great option for children aged 12+. Ice Skating Excursions for Schools Cockburn Ice Arena can offer a one-off recreational excursion or a multi-session sports specific program for both Primary and Secondary schools. For a 'one of a kind' school sport in Perth, why not give ice skating or ice hockey a go? From as little as $11 per person, an ice skating excursion is a healthy, inexpensive outing that gets the students up and about. One teacher per 10 students can skate for free! Cockburn Ice Arena in Bibra Lake is Perth's only twin rink ice arena. We are the perfect place to take the kids on the weekend or during school holidays!

Myself and two mates decided to drive around Australia in 15 days...so we did.
This was on day 9 as we left our camp at Cockburn, about 50-60 km west of Kununurra in northern Western Australia.

The Ice Factor Spectacular, what is all the Hype About?

The Ice Factor Program is a collaborative program between the South Australian Ice Sports Federation, the Adelaide IceArenA, school communities and local businesses heads into its second phase after a highly successful pilot program at the end of 2005.
Developed by Marie Shaw (SAISF and Management Group of IceArenA), Don Anderson (class liaison at Parafield Gardens High School), John Botterill (General Manager of IceArenA and Head Coach, Adelaide Assassins), Chris Hall (IHA Women's Director and Management Group of IceArenA) and Christine Manning (Youthworker).
The Ice Factor program is designed to assist schools in their efforts to keep at risk students at school. Most show a high probability of leaving school prematurely. Ice Factor provides those students with a focus through which they can develop life and vocational skills in a team. Ice hockey was chosen as that focus.
The Ice Factor program is based around the formation of an ice hockey team. While there is considerable emphasis on teaching the skills of ice hockey, the students are also given tasks which are associated with the formation of a hockey team as well as being exposed to the development of literacy and numeracy skills. Tasks such as team management, keeping statistics, producing a newsletter, fundraising and developing promotional material are designed to teach the students vocational skills while developing sustainability of the program.
Life skills such as teamwork, leadership and relational skills are developed through sessions called Factor Focus. The lessons are then applied to actual training in the developing, ice hockey team where responsibility, commitment, fairness, respect and support for each other are fostered.
Pilot Program
Fifteen students at Parafield Gardens High School attended the 8 week pilot program through which they learnt to skate and developed basic ice hockey skills. Television station Channel 7 filmed the students as they progressed through the program. A documentary on the program is planned for later this year.
The pilot program culminated in a game between the school students (who had formed themselves into Team Reapers) and a composite beginner/novice team from the IceArena Hockey Academy. Team Reapers was sponsored by VIP Services and Power Play Sports who between them supplied the players with equipment and skates. The Governor of South Australia, Her Excellency Majorie Jackson-Nelson, attended the game night and presented the students with Ice Factor certificates. Don Rurak, President of IHA, Kevin Browne, Treasurer, attended on behalf of IHA and Grant Harding, President of SAIHA, and Steve Wise, Vice-President, attended on behalf of local ice hockey (SAIHA). Bill Viss attended on behalf of VIP Services, the major sponsor of the program.
Based on the successful pilot program, Ice Factor moved into its second phase, with 5 schools being involved. A further 3 schools became involved in Term 2 of 2006. An inter-school competition will begin in the second half of the year as part of Phase 3 of the program. SA Ice Hockey Association assisted with the formation of the Schools League.
2011
The inter school competition is called Challenge Cup and is played at the end of each term. There are now Division 1 (6 teams) and Division 2 (5 teams).
