PARADISE CRASH REPAIRS PART 2! Ep 18
In the last episode we hauled Esper out at PSS Shipyard in Satun in order to start fixing the repairs from the accident. We had two weeks in which to get everything done before the next spring tide. Half way through the journey Liz has to visit the UK and so we leave Jamie on his own (con't below...)

With Liz back in England Jamie is left to fend for himself in the shipyard. Fortunately he has a few friends to hang out with, Honey, Misty and Smudge.
Meanwhile on the boat Jamie discovers a fuel leak in the diesel filler pipe. The pipe continues to leak throughout the afternoon so after work Jamie takes a stroll through the yard, soaking up the atmosphere of workers enjoying their downtime.
As the yard jacks the cradle up, Jamie catches up with Bobby.
Although Jia, Julie, Dan and Mae have spent many a day and night on fishing boats, they've not been active crew on a sail boat before. As Esper slides down the yard Jamie gives them a pep talk.
It must have been a strange sensation for Jia, who normally takes in this view from the opposite side.
And with that Jamie, Jia, Julie, Dan and Mai make their way down the river and out into the open waters for some fun aboard Esper.

A week in Cat Island Bahamas. Fabulous place.
BIG FISH LITTLE FISH! Ep 15
It seems as if American has been busy catching our dinner, a tasty-looking grouper. There are many ways to kill a fish, from cutting its gills, to cutting off its head. Some yachties swear by pouring alcohol into its gills but we think this is a waste of rum. The best way to humanely kill a large fish like this is to hit it squarely between the eyes or drive a knife through its brain...(con't below)

Eventually the grouper is gutted and we slice it up into large fillets, which we then barbie that evening along with some bream which Liz caught over the side of Esper.
Next morning. It's time to say goodbye to American and Alicia as they make their way back to Krabi and we move on towards Satun where we're aiming to haul out and repair the damage caused by the accident. Before we set off Jamie catches up with American aboard Synchronicity.
We left Ko Ha and made our way south. With no wind and flat seas we had to motor. Along the way we noticed many logs in the sea, which we put down to the spring high water sweeping the beaches of broken trees and palms, and carrying them back into the waves.
We make our way to Ko Rok, a convenient stop familiar to those who followtheboat. If you remember, we like to take a mooring buoy at this spot.
With the bow secured to the mooring buoy it doesn't take long for Liz to get the fishing rod out. In no time Millie and Liz have caught a bucket full of bream.
One of the great things about this lifestyle is having the time to cook. Jamie and Liz share the cooking duties equally. They both love spending time in the galley experimenting with new and interesting dishes, though it can get a bit hot down there at times. Millie, meanwhile, waits patiently for her dinner. You'll notice Liz uses a pair of pliers when handling bream. She's been caught out by their sharp spines a few times and it can be painful. Although Millie's tummy can digest thick bone we like to cut the spines off for her.

Fiji Travel Vlog Day 3: Resort Style / Deep Water Snorkel / Cocktails
Today was our first full day at Musket Cove on Malolo Island, Fiji.
We quickly fell into a routine for our stay at the resort, which commenced with an awesome breakfast by the pool. Later we could catch a complimentary boat ride out to a Deepwater snorkel site. After we returned, we would have a long swim in the Resort pool while enjoying a few too many cocktails at the swim-up Bar. After showers, we would return to the Restaurant for a sumptuous dinner at the restaurant.
Note: When booking, we decided against an all-inclusive Meal package, as we didn't think we would eat enough to make it worthwhile. It turns out we were right. We were so busy snorkelling and paticipating in other activities that we didn't bother going back to the restaurant at lunchtime to eat. If we were hungry, we could buy food from the cafe or supplies from the supermarket to keep in our Bure. We ordered all evening meals a-la-carte and they were charged to our bill. All up, it worked out a lot cheaper that way.
The boat rides out to Deepwater Coral reefs were timed to coincide with the tides and currents when the water would be clearer and calmer. We were slightly disappointed to find the coral less colourful than we hoped but the multitude of Tropical fish was very exciting.
Thank you for watching.

Verde Dreaming - Scuba Diving the Drop Off - near Puerto Galera - Philippines
Verde Island is approximately 45 minutes boat ride from Sabang beach, it offer spectacular wall diving and boasts an abundance of marine life as well many varieties of soft and hard corals.
Just a few hours from the hustle and bustle of manila lies the idyllic island of Mindoro, on the northern end can be found puerto galera a wild life heaven, with tropical adventures to suit all tastes.
The natural world is here in abundance, its no wonder why it is listed on the national heritage list of WWF,
Scuba diving, trekking and island hopping are all your disposal, and after a long day soaking up the natural atmosphere the night life will keep you well dinned and entertained, fine restaurants for all culinary tastes can be found to go along with live music and dancing.
This coastal town is well known among tourists for its numerous pocket beaches and many snorkeling and Scuba diving spots. The area was designated a Man and Biosphere Reserve of UNESCO in 1973 and has some of the most diverse coral reef diving in Asia. The marine environment has benefited in recent years from the influx of tourist dollars. This has seen a huge reduction in the number of fishermen in the area, as they gain higher revenue from tourists.
Puerto Galera is a listed by the Club of the Most Beautiful Bays of the World, and is the only bay in the Philippines to be listed there.
Among the famous beaches in Puerto Galera are Sabang Beach and White Beach, which have an active nightlife with numerous bars and restaurants. Both beaches also have an array of first-class and economy-class accommodations.
Sabang beach is the main destination for foreign tourists, while White Beach remains popular with local travelers.Big La Laguna Beach and Small La Laguna Beach are considered part of Sabang with resorts lining the beaches. Big La Laguna Beach is popular for local swimmers and snorkelers. Since 2001 White beach has seen uncontrolled development. New restaurants and places to stay are rapidly encroaching on the beach itself and little remains of the once charming beach. Puerto Galera town is a pleasant but sleepy Philippine town with few attractions. It has a large central catholic church and a Pier area, with a selection of bistros and cafes.

BEACH LIFE IN PARADISE Ep 14
After the morning squall American radios through to Jamie and invites him on a Retrieve the Spear Diving Adventure. Koh Ha Yai is a famous dive spot so the guys make the most of American's full tanks (con't below)...

The purpose of this dive is to retrieve a lost spear from American's spear gun which went overboard. However Jamie manages to add to the confusion by first requiring an extra weight or two to help keep his slim body buoyant in the water and then dropping said weight to the sea bed 15m below, so now they're on a Retrieve the Spear and Weight Diving Adventure.
They make use of the mooring line and use it as a descent guide. Jamie is always slow to equalise so American waits at the bottom by the concrete block and immediately comes across an eel.
With Jamie down, the pair make their way towards the first bombie that surrounds the rock face above water.
They've have been down for almost 45 minutes so it's time to head back to the ascent line, but not before American retrieves his spear and that lost weight. Although most of the dive was only in 15m depth they do a controlled ascent anyway, taking their time to make their way back to American's boat, Synchronicity.
Whilst the boys take a dive Alicia and Liz catch up on that beach that only reveals itself at low water. We put the world to rights.
We spend ages on the shore chatting, as the warm water laps around us. We're awoken from our calm by some action in the water. Having found his spear, American has been putting it to good use.
We talk about the Trash Hero project we came across on Koh Lipe, where local and tourists get together to clean the beaches and donate the rubbish to recycling projects around Thailand. It turns out that Alicia is involved in a similar project back in the States with the Teeki brand of active wear.
Today has been an extraordinary day, from anchoring among nesting birds close to the rockfaces, seeing off squalls, diving among the many coral reefs and chatting on the shore, Koh Hah Yai will goes down as one of our favourite anchorages of all time. In the next episode, however, you'll find out how American brings us all back down to earth, putting Alicia off her dinner in the process.

Sailing to the Exumas in the Bahamas (Sailing SV Catsaway) - Ep. 23
Catsaway is for sale -
Live map -
SV Catsaway finally made it to the Bahamas!!
After a few weeks away from the boat, we finished provisioning and preparing for the crossing. We waited for an ideal weather window - light winds and definitely nothing coming the North. We checked multiple weather sources, including a meteorologist friend. The day was forecasted to be winds of 10-15 knots coming from the east. It would be blowing directly against us, but we went with it anyways.
We left Dinner Key Marina with buddy boats Bandera and Be As You Are at 3:00am. Crossing Biscayne Bay was dark and quiet. Going out the inlet was a strange experience - swells that are close together and gradually getting bigger that you can’t see - you can only feel. We headed south for the first part of our journey, as the Gulf Stream would be gradually pushing us north. It was clear when we got into the stream; our southern motion stopped being so extreme and started showing in the charts as an easterly heading.
Even though we had waited a couple of days to let the stream die down, it was still choppy and confused. There was no regularity to the swell and wave pattern, which gave us the feeling of being in a washing machine. Both of us became seasick, but managed to shake it off as the journey continued. Catching 3 tuna certainly helped perk us up!
After about 13 hours of motoring, we pulled into the Blue Water Marina in Bimini. Greg went off the boat to customs while Diana cleaned up. Everything went smoothly and when Greg came back, we celebrated by raising the Bahamian courtesy flag, and eating our fresh fish. The cats also enjoyed dinner!
The next day, we anchored north of the marina and explored Bimini. We also went to BTC to get our data plans sorted out, and stopped at the local liquor store to buy some cheap rum. Surprise surprise - our one tank of propane ran out, so we went to get it filled up. Figures!
We wanted to stay in Bimini longer, but the perfect weather window was opening to cross the banks. We left the next morning at 7am to meet buddy boats Bandera, Be As You Are, and Jennabird. While leaving the marina, Bandera had issues with the prop. We offered to wait while Michael dove on the prop, but they told us to go ahead. Unfortunately we had to part ways as it was discovered that Bandera needed an entire new propeller shaft.
We continued across the banks with Jennabird and Be As You Are. At first the winds were against us, but they eventually clocked around to a close reach and we put up full sail and stopped the engine. The 15-20 knot winds continued, switching to a beam reach and then a broad reach - and Catsaway took off. She rewarded us with over 8 knots of speed and we had an exhilarating sail to Northwest Point, where we anchored for the night.
We woke up to our anchor alarm going off - we were dragging anchor! However, our anchor was normally good at resetting itself, so we increased the radius and went back to sleep. Unfortunately the anchor had other ideas and we reluctantly pulled ourselves out of bed to properly reset the anchor. Second time was great, and we quickly fell back asleep.
Dawn came bright and early with calm winds. On the way to Chub Cay, winds picked up from the west, which gave us a nice downwind sail. It had been a while since we had properly sailed and it felt wonderful.
Chub Cay is a privately owned island that boasts a marina and a couple of restaurants. Our friends on Be As You Are organized a group dinner at the only local restaurant on the cay. We were picked up in an extended golf cart, and enjoyed cracked conch, lobster tail, peas and rice and salad. We also enjoyed a strong cocktail called a Smooth Sailing - we were all hoping to leave the next day for New Providence, so we had our fingers crossed that the cocktail would equal the weather for the following day.
Alas it was not to be - we left Chub Cay to north winds forecasted between 10-15 knots. The sea state gradually built as we sailed further from land and we ended up with swells of 9 feet and apparent winds of 28 knots. We reefed the sails, and still got over 9 knots of speed. Catsaway was sailing on a broad reach towards Rose Island and we attained a new top speed of 13 knots surfing a wave! We pulled onto the lee side of Rose Island to calm waters and a quiet anchorage. Phew!
After a couple of days enjoying Rose Island, we again had an excellent weather window to cotninue to Highbourne Cay. North winds of 12-18 knots were forecasted and held true. We reached Highbourne Cay in a few hours and were greeted by nurse sharks and crystal clear waters. We had finally reached the Exumas!

SY Esper sailed herself, and felt steady as a rock. An over-nighter in the shadow of mighty Ko Phetra had us gently rolling, but at anchor next to Ko Tarutao the next afternoon even Millie-the-cat turned green from the relentless swell.
So it was anchor aweigh, and an evening passage south to Malaysia which brought the second day to a tranquil close.
It's sailing-days like these which make all the preparation worthwhile.
Come all ye young fellows that follow the sea.
To me weigh hey blow the man down!
And pray pay attention and listen to me,
Give me some time to blow the man down!
