Cocopah Cultural Celebration 2015
Hundreds of people attended the 19th Annual Cocopah Cultural Celebration which was held Sat., Oct. 10, 2015 at the West Reservation in Somerton, Arizona.
Zoe Dugan's SMS Dress
Cocopah Tribal member Zoe Dugan donated her traditional dress to her alma mater Somerton Middle School. Zoe, who is about to begin her junior year of high school, wore that dress during the 8th grade promotion ceremony. The dress, which was made by hand, features the school's colors and mascot. Zoe's donation is the first of its kind for Somerton Middle School. School officials plan to put her dress on display soon.

Yuma Territorial Marathon and Half Marathon TV spot 2

The Yuma Territorial Marathon and Half Marathon are run on the last Saturday in January through the Arizona farming communities of Somerton, Gadsden and San Luis in southern Yuma County. The mostly level, certified course has seen as many as 50% of participating runners set their best times. The Cocopah Casino and Resort is the site of the start/finish line and the host hotel for out-of-town runners. Awards are given to the top three finishers (male and female) in the full and half marathons, as well as the top three finishers in each age bracket (full and half marathon, male and female). The event has seen significant growth since its inception in 2010, with the Half Marathon fast becoming one the Southwest's premier events.
Two Ways to Register
Runners may register online for the 2014 Marathon and Half Marathon either through the Active.com website or through the Caballeros de Yuma. Clicking on the buttons below will take you to the registration portals. On-Site registration will be available at the Cocopah Resort and Conference Center (located north of the casino) on Friday, Jan. 24 between 4 and 9 PM!

A Somerton police officer has been arrested on suspicion of theft and fraud. The Yuma County Sheriff's Officer says Officer Felipe Navarro was booked into the Yuma County Jail Friday.
Somerton police asked the Sheriff's Office to investigate Navarro after an alleged victim had complained to Somerton police.
Navarro was booked on charges of fraudulent schemes and theft. The charges stem from alleged theft through misrepresentation when Navarro allegedly attempted to sell a vehicle that did not exist.
The case remains under investigation.
