Epic Australia 2017 - Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef
Pedro guided U.S clients on a diving trip to Lizard Island, a gem in the northern section of the Great Barrier Reef, in Australia’s Tropical North Queensland. The clients had dived many of the best locations on the planet over the past 30 years and diving with the resident family of 4ft long Potato Cod at The Cod Hole on Ribbon Reef 10 was on their bucket list. Despite the reef being extensively damaged by cyclone Ita in 2014, it did not disappoint! Read more on the Epic blog goo.gl/EtCeSZ

Luxuriate on Lizard Island on the Great Barrier Reef
Lizard Island, Australia's northernmost island resort on the Great Barrier Reef, is truly secluded from the rest of the world and is located a one hour scenic flight over the reef from Cairns.
Surrounded by narrow fringing reefs that rise steeply from depths of 20m, guests can plunge straight from the beach into Tiffany
Blue waters and snorkel over stunning coral gardens.
Equally, they can join an excursion to the edge of the continental shelf, some 20km away as well as the Cod Hole, considered one of the world’s best dive sites, where gentle giants of the fish
world, like 30kg potato cods and large Maori wrasses, waltz with scuba divers.

RIBBON REEFS & COD HOLE: Diving with Giant Potato Cods
Great diving, spearfishing and of course, the infamous Cod Hole, home to the friendly potato cods! Join us as we sail north from Cairns to the Ribbon Reefs on the outer edge of the Great Barrier Reef.
We also see heaps of sharks, turtles and of course, beautiful coral. What a beautiful part of our Great Barrier Reef!
The Ribbons and Cod Hole have been on our list of places we'd love to explore so we were thrilled to have the opportunity to spend a good amount of time in this area.
If you ever have any questions about diving the Great Barrier Reef or anchoring at the reef, let us know.
Cheers,
Jam and Andman

Lizard Island - CodHole Part II Awesome!!
Our trip continues at Lizard Island after a couple of big days of Travel, This video shows our campsite, take a walk up to cook's Lookout, bit of fishing and a trip to the famous Cod Hole. Lizard island is a pretty amazing place and well worth a visit at least once, can't wait to go back. The Marlin Bar was amazing and for the keen fisho, blew my mind, we had some great feeds there and great cold beer, and also very reasonably priced which was great. Make sure you check out the Marlin Bar, although only open a few nights a week.
The fishing was OK, not spectacular, but it's the place to go for 1000lb marlin!! we still had fun and a lot of spearfishing which we don't normally do. Make sure you have your permits, only $6 a night per person for the campsite and well worth it. The campsite has a gas barby which was nice and also eco friendly toilet just a short walk away. Water is available at the Marlin Bar or nearby bore which can be manually pumped.
The great barrier reef has a lot of marine parks around Lizard island and a lot of it is Green so no fishing. We still could fish, but mainly went spearfishing and got plenty of coral trout, which were great fresh on the Barby!!
Part 3 to come soon and finishes off a great trip!! Thanks for watching and make sure you subscribe with more fishing videos coming soon,
cheers Greg
Coral trout spawning at Lizard Island, Great Barrier Reef
Coral trout, Plectropomus leopardus, gather to spawn at dusk around the new moon in spring and early summer at Lizard Island on the northern Great Barrier Reef. Substantial research into the biology and ecology of this highly sought-after table fish has been conducted at the Australian Museum's Lizard Island Research Station.
This video was shot just before sunset on 27 September 2011 at about 6 metres depth. Males wear spawning colours - very pale with a black outline - that are quite different to their normal colouration. They shimmy up to smaller females as an invitation to join a spawning rush towards the surface.
In this video, a male shimmies at several females and chases off a rival male before making a really fast spawning rush with a female at about 1 minute into the clip. Each fish emitted a puff of spawn at the apex of the rush.
Dive the Great Barrier Reef - Ribbon Reefs ( Steve's Bommie and Cod Hole)
Steve's Bommie is a site around Ribbon Reef 7 and is my favorite site. The video were taken at sites between Cod Hole and Steve's Bommie.

Awesome Barrier Reef part. III - The Cod Hole
The giant Potato Cod makes its appearance at 1:57
Dived with TAKA on the famous Cod Hole, where I witnessed the famous giant potato cods being fed. This is the only place in Australia that they are allowed to be fed; we were allowed to touch them as well.
The potato cods in this area have been both fed and subject to fishery. It is no longer legal to catch them, but since they're so used to being fed, the government allows it to continue as they suspect them to starve to death if it is suddenly ended. Only a few boats have a permit for this.
These dives were fantastic!
Dive sites:
@ Cod Hole
@ Clam Garden
We had two dives at the cod hole, so I might sprinkle some more potato cod material in later vids, and I also added some footage from the Clam Garden just to get some variety. This is where I found the cuttlefish and the clownfish.
