Third Wave Coffee Trends in Moscow, Russia
Third wave coffee culture is on the rise in Russia! The nation's relationship with coffee dates back to the reign of Peter the Great, who introduced “the praiseworthy drink” to his court. Though not as popular as tea, Russians have been consuming it ever since. Recently, independent specialty shops have begun to flourish, brewing coffees sourced from domestic roasters. Café menus include beverages crafted for local tastes. Eager to discover different origins, customers enjoy exotic new flavor profiles. Join Henry, founder of Perfect Daily Grind as he tours Moscow cafés and attends PIR Coffee Expo, meeting people at the heart of Russia’s specialty coffee industry.

Café Pushkin in Moscow | Best Russian Food | Cafe Pushkin Tour | Кафе Пушкинъ | Unwind with Neha
More than 50 years ago, the legendary French chansonnier Gilbert Bécaud performed in Moscow. When he returned to Paris he wrote the song “Natalie” and dedicated it to his Russian guide. The song goes: “We are walking around Moscow, visiting Red Square, and you are telling me learned things about Lenin and the Revolution, but I’m thinking, ‘I wish we were at Café Pushkin, looking at the snow outside the windows. We’d drink hot chocolate, and talk about something completely different…’”
The song became incredibly popular in France, and it is no wonder that French visitors to Moscow tried to find “Café Pushkin.” They couldn’t find it as it existed only as a poetic fantasy in Bécaud’s song. But it was the song that inspired Andrei Dellos, an artist and restaurateur with Franco-Russian roots, to create “Café Pushkin.”
On June 4, 1999, “Café Pushkin” opened in a Baroque mansion on Tverskoy Boulevard. At the grand opening, Gilbert Bécaud performed his world-famous song “Natalie.”
Tverskoy Boulevard and the streets around it played a significant, almost mystical role in the life of Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. When the boulevard opened in 1796, it became a favorite place among Moscow high society for a stroll. Pushkin could be found there frequently.

Vlog 3. Tours to Moscow. Real Russia
In the beginning of 2016, I announced an intention to do my best to visit more places of Russia. The first point in the list was Moscow, Russia. It’s done. It was a short visit to Moscow and filmed only six episodes, but it’s done. Getting ready for a next city and raising a new funds to make it happen.
For the reason I never show an alcoholics, krokodile addicts and prostitutes, some people are thinking I am a Putin’s bot, funded by Kremlin. But it isn’t. Same as three years ago, when the channel started, “Real Russia” is still an independent English-language channel about Russia.
In fact, my channel have only two sources of revenue – standard YouTube Ads (pre-rolls you can see before and after my videos and in-video overlays) and Crowdfunding Campaigns.
Crowdfunding… it’s when your “crowd” is “funding” your channel. But, important to notice, it’s far not all crowd, but only a little part of the most loyal crowd. The most loyal fans who loves the videos as much as ready to contribute it financially.
Next fact, most people loves to finance a physical stuff, something tangible they can touch and delivered personally for them. But my crowdfunding campaign is actually offer to invest in something more spiritual. This is no more no less but investment in an esthetic enjoyment you’ll receive from a future videos.
And final thing is that most people consider their participation in a crowdfunding campaign as a one-time action. It did once, and it’s done. And it’s fair enough for all crowdfunds. I talked with a lot of other people who were making fundraising campaigns and all of them said that their next campaigns are always brings less funds than previous once.
This works for me too. Even though my audience is growing every new day but not all of them become so loyal fans. It happens in the moment when all “older” most loyal fans already did their contribution before.
Nowdays, I have found that my recent crowdfunding campaign is the last one. It used to be a good source of support to the channel but now it’s getting exhausted. So, instead of waiting for when it will keep getting lower and lower, it’s better switch it to something else.
Soon, I re-launch my store I used to have in 2013. Those days I was selling t-shirts only, but now it’s going to be many other quality items made in Russia.
But right now, I also give it a try to launch a “Tours to Moscow” provided by me.
More about it at
All revenues from the store and tours will go to keep “Real Russia” growing.
However, current crowdfunding campaign is also still available. You can support my channel and receive an original postcard from Russia at

In Our Time: S22/13 Coffee (Dec 12 2019)
Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the history and social impact of coffee. From its origins in Ethiopia, coffea arabica spread through the Ottoman Empire before reaching Western Europe where, in the 17th century, coffee houses were becoming established. There, caffeinated customers stayed awake for longer and were more animated, and this helped to spread ideas and influence culture. Coffee became a colonial product, grown by slaves or indentured labour, with coffea robusta replacing arabica where disease had struck, and was traded extensively by the Dutch and French empires; by the 19th century, Brazil had developed into a major coffee producer, meeting demand in the USA that had grown on the waggon trails.
With Judith Hawley, Professor of 18th Century Literature at Royal Holloway, University of London; Markman Ellis, Professor of 18th Century Studies at Queen Mary University of London; and Jonathan Morris, Professor in Modern History at the University of Hertfordshire. Producer: Simon Tillotson.

SCRIPT
It may not be free, but is it fair???
A Russian coffeeshop chain is taking its own informal poll of who's most popular among presidential candidates, by tallying which man's face is picked most often to adorn customers' drinks.
One 22-year-old physics student plumped for Communist Party chief Gennady Zyuganov.
Barista Nikita Matulin says Zyuganov's portrait comes out nicely when cinnamon is shaken over the latte foam, and he likes to do billionaire businessman Mikhail Prokhorov, as well.
Now to some, like shop manager Miranda Yuskayeva, the goal is more about reigniting waning enthusiasm for the political process, rather than keeping track of whose image is more in demand...
SOT
In the meantime, even if the sillhouette survey finds that Russia's prime minister is trailing in his bid to regain the presidency in balloting set for March, the results of the coffeeshop contest alone aren't likely to keep Vladimir Putin awake at night.

Café Pouchkine Pâtisserie, afternoon tea in Paris. Sumptuous desserts and teatime chat.
Whether you’re looking for a tea or a coffee break Café Pouchkine is your perfect tea house in Paris. Café Pouchkine… was named after the poet and writer… Alexandre Pouchkine…Situated on the ground floor of the Printemps department store, this café is is dedicated to French and Russian pastry in an luxury setting. You’ll find cakes made with buckwheat flour and kvas, Paris Moscou, a caramel cake spiked with the fermented rye liqueur, morning pastries with wild blueberry swirls. My favorite is the cheesecake made with Russian fromage blanc at 3:19. If you have a sweet tooth, you will not be able to resist their pastries. A chic pastry shop where you come enjoy coffee, pastry, and the hum of teatime chat. A must do and see when shopping at Printemps. Happy Valentine's Day! Enjoy!
