The Bridgeton Historic Guidelines: a Short Video Introduction
(Note: For a version of these Guidelines for Spanish-speakers, please search Bridgeton NJ Guias or use the contact info below/Nota: Para obtener una versión de estas Directrices para los ingleshablantes, por favor buscar Bridgeton NJ Guidelines o utilice la información de contacto más abajo).).
This video (generated from an original PowerPoint) represents another stepping-stone in our first efforts to build the community's understanding of the Design Guidelines for the Bridgeton (NJ) Historic District, and the reasons for them. The Guidelines are the ideas meant to guide home and building owners and City decisionmakers (Zoning Office & Officers, Historic District Commission, Zoning Board) when changes are proposed to properties in the Bridgeton Historic District, largest in the state. CHABA (the Center for Historic American Building Arts) was aided in producing these videos in both English and Spanish versions by grants from the City of Bridgeton and State Farm Insurance. But content/presentation are our own--the work of historic architect Maria Cerda-Moreno (a CHABA co-founder) and Oscar Hernandez, a recent honors graduate of Bridgeton HS, who executed the voiceover. Please contact us with any questions or problems. Remember: This is only an introduction to basic themes and principles. It cannot answer every question or direct every project. Please call or email us if you need advice and assistance on how to make any kind of exterior repair to your building, or would like support (English or Spanish) for an appearance before the Commission. CHABA can help! 856-369-1300 or centerhabarts@gmail.com .

Police and volunteers in New Jersey are desperately searching for a five-year-old girl who went missing from a park Monday evening.Dulce Maria Alavez was last seen at around 5pm on Monday in Bridgeton Park, a 1,500-acre area that includes a canal known as Raceway and the Cohanzick Zoo.Her aunt, Elena Alavez, said her niece was playing with her three-year-old brother when she wandered off. Their mother was sitting in a car about 30 yards away. Share this article Share The woman told 6ABC in Spanish it's as if the earth swallowed her up.Dulce was last seen wearing checkered pants with flowers, a yellow T-shirt and white sandals. The Bridgeport Police Department released screenshots from surveillance video showing Dulce entering a grocery store with her family and opening an ice cream refrigerator. The child is 3 feet 5 inches tall, with a medium build, and has long dark hair tied in a ponytail.Dulce arrived in the park with her mother, 19-year-old Noemia Alavez Perez, her three-year-old brother and her eight-year-old aunt.Alavez Perez told NBC Philadelphia her son and daughter ran to a playground, each of them holding an ice cream, while she and her younger sister stayed behind in a car about 30 yards away. Ten minutes later, Alavez Perez saw her son in tears and his ice cream on the ground. Her daughter was nowhere in sight. The boy pointed towards some buildings nearby and told his mother that Dulce had gone in that direction. 'I thought she was just playing hide-and-seek, that she was playing in the woods,' Alavez Perez said. The mother mobilized her family members and proceeded to scour the area before calling police for help.Officers accompanied by K-9 units combed the park in search of the missing girl on foot, while a New Jersey State Police helicopter flew overhead and several boats went up and down the canal.Family members and volunteers joined the expanding search effort on Tuesday, playing ice cream truck music in an attempt to lure the missing girl and calling out her name.Police have launched a criminal investigation while working to locate Dulce Alavez. The girl's mother is not considered a person of interest. On Tuesday, the 19-year-old Alavez Perez appealed to the public to help find her child. NBCUniversal Privacy Policy
