WARNING!
Do YOU fly or want to fly a remote controlled aircraft in the UK?
To avoid injuring or killing people first and foremost, but also therefore becoming the person who causes a huge shake up in who can and cannot legally operate Remotely Piloted Aircraft Systems, (RPAS) make sure you know UK CAA airspace regulations with regard to RC aircraft under 20Kg.
Here's a basic summary of the ones to keep in mind:
• The maximum permitted altitude is 400 feet (120 metres) above ground level
• The maximum distance RPAS can be flown from the operator is 500 metres
• The minimum visibility needs to be 5 km
• RPAS must be flown in line of sight of the operator
• An RPAS cannot be flown at night without special permission from the CAA
• Permission must be obtained from the owner of the take-off point
• An RPAS cannot be flown within 50 metres of structures, vehicles or people that are not under the control of the person in charge of the aircraft
• An RPAS cannot be flown over or within 150 metres of any built up area

Day 5
18.07.2017
We were blessed with such good weather in Isle of Skye. It was a short walk to the river crossings over stepping stones to get to the first waterfall. The beautifully crystal clear blue pools on the River Brittle make some great ‘Wild Swimming’ for those brave enough to enter the icy cold water. I almost had a change of heart when everyone dissuaded me not to do the jump. But I decided then that it was now or never. Stunning location and recommended for everyone to visit.

2014 - A few days out
Instead of churning out multiple 5 or 6 minute films of individual days over the season, I stored them up and have put together one film. I'd like to say it was planned, but was more due to a lack of time during the season! As per usual, there's the inevitable shaky footage, but as always, I never actually set out to make a ski film - I just see what I get as a result of heading out anyway.
It's not necessarily in chronological order, although Fuselage Gully was my first of the season, and Tower Gully was the final run of my season. The film serves as a reminder to me of a great season, despite juggling weather, conditions, work and family life. A limited number of days compared to normal, but it's quality rather than quantity, and I feel really lucky to get some of the lines skied that I did!
I didn't put everything in here - there were a couple of descents that just didn't produce anything really worthwhile including (e.g. A Minus Gully on Beinn Bhrotain). I skied everything in the film with one exception: Main Rake on Beinn a' Bhuird. I'll go back for that on a more favourable day. Next time I do the The Runnel, I might make some turns right at the top, rather than a sheepish side slip...
The result is quite long: 13 minutes. However, it's broken up in to 4 sections if you don't have the time or inclination to watch it all at once.
Beinn Eighe and Sgurr Alasdair:
Beinn a' Bhuird, Mayar (Coire Fee), Bheinn Mheadhoin (Stob Coire Etchachan):
Bidean nam Bian, Lochnagar, Cairn Toul, Coire Etchachan, Coire an t-Sneachda, Braeriach:
Ben Nevis:

Skye Scrambling
Day 1 of Mountaineering Scotland’s Scrambling course. Ridge walk along Sgurr na Banachdich. This was a day well out of my comfort zone completing a grade 2 scramble in VERY wet conditions on the famous Cuillin Ridge on Skye. Thankfully(and I wouldn’t have gone near it without) I was under the expert supervision of Al Halewood. We practiced a number of safety techniques using ropes, including indirect belay and abseiling, but the Most important lesson of the day was SAFE and SENSIBLE movement across rocky ground. Spectacular, challenging and beneficial!
