Driving in Mumbai (Colaba) - Maharashtra, India
Colaba is a part of the city of Mumbai, and also a Lok Sabha constituency. During Portuguese rule in the 16th century, the island was known as Candil. After the British took over the island in the late 17th century, it was known as Colio.
The Gateway of India, the art deco style Regal theatre, the cafes (Café Mondegar, Royal and Leopold Cafe), and the Taj Mahal Palace & Tower hotel, Bademiya Restaurant and Bagdadi restaurant, as well as a number of modern pubs, restaurants and clubs all add to the atmosphere . The southern tip is occupied by a military cantonment, including the large Navy Nagar layout built on reclaimed land known as Holiday Camp.
The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel is a Heritage Grand class five-star hotel in the Colaba region of Mumbai, next to the Gateway of India.
Part of the Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, this hotel is considered the flagship property of the group and contains 560 rooms and 44 suites.
The Gateway of India is an arch monument built during the 20th century in Bombay. The monument was erected to commemorate the landing of King George V and Queen Mary at Apollo Bunder on their visit to India in 1911.
Built in Indo-Saracenic style, the foundation stone for the Gateway of India was laid on 31 March 1911.

Market Timings : No Official timings declared, But shops and vendors at this street starts opening by 10:00 Am till late evening 9:00 PM.
How to Reach : Nearest 2 stations to reach and enjoy causeway shopping are Churchgate (Western Railway Route) (14 Minutes, 3.8 Kilometres) & CST (Centrail Railway Route) (19 Minutes, 4.6 Kilometres). Take a taxi and get down near regal cinema from where the market lane starts with all glitters and best deals to catchup with.
Car Parking : If you are coming in your own vehicle, parking options are road side. You can park outside shops on market lanes and enjoy shopping. Colaba Causeway starts from a scattered collection of stalls to a seemingly never ending boardwalk of irresistible things. On Approaching the entrance to Colaba Causeway, you are greeted with galaxies of bags, exotic shawls, amusing household items, T-shirts, clothes and accessories. A shopaholic’s dream, the numerous cramped up stalls have many hidden treasures. To find your treasure, keep digging deeper, Colaba Causeway rewards the dedicated rummager. Bargaining is also a vital part of the process. Never agree to the first three prices the seller offers you.
So many shops of clothes, jewelry, handbags, shoes etc. Use ur bargaining skills. Bought bags from femina bags shop who has good clutches, potli bags, gents wallets and sandles also. Great cheap market though some shops have fixed price. Walking distance from gateway of India. I found some cheap good artificial jewelry. One needs minimum 2 to 3 hours in the market.

The gateway of India
The Causeway as it is known to the locals, was constructed by the British East India Company, during the tenure of Sir Robert Grant (1779–1838) as the governor of Bombay (1835–1838),[5] and its construction completed in 1838, which used the Old Woman's Island as a part of it;[6][7] with this the last two islands of Colaba and Old Woman's Island (out of the Seven islands of Bombay), which were first taken in 1675, got connected with the mainland of Bombay. Until 1839, Colaba was accessible only during the low tide, though soon it saw rapid development in the area, especially after the construction the Cotton Exchange at Cotton Green in 1844.[8] The Causeway was later further widened in 1861 and 1863.[9
