It was a grueling 2 day trek (it is the deepest & accessible canyon in the world after all), but we felt so accomplished in the end! If you’re thinking of going on this adventure on your own, we hope this video inspires you and provides useful insights!

◻ Accommodation in Colca Canyon
Outside of the peak months of August and September, it is easy to find an accommodation in the various villages of Colca Canyon without pre-booking. This allows you to be more flexible and adds to the adventure! Just make sure you load your Google Maps with some guesthouse options and download it offline.
We had marked in our map a guesthouse called Mauricio & Rufina located in Cosñinhua. They rent basic yet comfortable rooms and the best part is that they prepare meals made with organic vegetables they grow on their farm. We thoroughly enjoyed having dinner with them and learned quite a bit about life in the canyon. We paid 30 soles for one night in a double bed that included a delicious dinner.
If you decide to stay in Sangalle, we are told Oasis Paraíso is the best place to stay. Rooms start at $25 USD/night. Check reviews and book here:

HIGH ALTITUDE EFFECTS | Colca Canyon, Peru Two-Day Tour
Today, we started a Colca Canyon two-day Tour from Arequipa. We went with a company recommended by our partners at Peru Hop, and they took us around the Colca Canyon, Peru.
We had to deal with the high altitude - so we bought a few coca leaf products to try out.
Along the way in the Salinas And Aguada Blanca National Reserve, we saw some wild vicuña (or, vicunyas) and we were lucky enough to hang out with a bunch of llamas and alpacas. Plus, we got to trek up a hill and see some very cool Inca tombs - which were completely open!

Colca Canyon - awesome Trekking
A three day trek in the Cola Canyon of Peru, Arequipa.
(You can book a Tour, for a lot of money, but you can also go by yourself. Its an easy trekking and there are always people you can ask for the way. And you will have the better adventure without guide, you are more free and can stop when ever you want.)
We stayed in a hostel in Arequipa and left some stuff there. At 3am we tooked a bus to Cabanaconde with a stop in the Mirador El Condor. And around 8 in the morning we started our trek. The first day we walked like 5 hours to San Juan, slept in a tent and in the next morning around 5am we kept going for 4 hours thought Tabak and Malata to Sandalle where we slept the second night. The last day back to Cabanaconde we made in 4 hours uphill.

COLCA CANYON TOUR // DAY 4 PERU HOP
Another early morning and we finally arrived in Arequipa after an overnight bus ride... just in time to catch another bus to Chivay, Peru and to tour Colca Canyon, which is twice as deep as the Grand Canyon. It was a Happy Thanksgiving as we enjoyed local dancing and music and oh ya, Mark had an eagle on his head :)

Colca Canyon Travel Guide - Arequipa Tourist Attractions
The #ColcaCanyon starts125 miles or 200 km and five hours by bus from Arequipa, Peru´s second largest city.
Its a draw card for visitors for its unique beauty and for its preservation of a distinct Andean culture.
Its also one of the deepest canyons in the world.
Pre-Inca terraces climb up the steep #canyon walls, enormous cactus farms support the cochineal insect, used to made red dyes, and indigenous women show off their colorful dresses and beautifully embroidered hats at stalls and markets along the ridgeline.
Treks can also be made into the depths of the Canyon, with zigzagging paths linking small isolated towns that cling to the hillsides, and following the #mountain rivers that converge on an oasis at the base of the gorge. The canyon is also famous for the giant condors that soar overhead from their perches hidden in the cliff face.
