Pan Am Torch comes to King City, ON
The Township of King is proud to announce Peggy Belcher and
Alessandra Benazzi as the Township of King’s community torchbearers for the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am
Games Torch Relay, presented by President’s Choice® and OLG. The torch relay will visit the King City
Public School on Thursday June 25.
“I am very excited that the Township of King has been selected as a celebration community for the
TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay. These events foster community pride and spirit,” said
Mayor Steve Pellegrini.
Peggy was the winner of the 2014 King Township Citizen of the Year Award and exemplifies strength and
loyalty in her commitment to the community. Peggy is a long-time Nobleton resident and has a long
history of service with the Girl Guides of Canada. Her community involvement has been shown through
Stewardship at Cold Creek Conservation Area, King Curling Club and All Saints Anglican Church.
Alessandra was the 2014 Youth Award of Merit recipient for demonstrating her leadership and
dedication towards the community. Alessandra was an honour role student, lead mentor and student
council liaison at her high school. Alessandra loves the outdoors, enjoys playing soccer and is an avid
swimmer.
Peggy and Alessandra will proudly carry the Pan Am flame as the Township of King’s community
torchbearers. The Township of King is excited to be a part of this historic journey and we look forward to
showing our community to the world.
During the 41-day torch relay, each of the 3,000 torchbearers will complete, on average, a 200-metre
relay segment. The torch will be carried by more than 60 modes of transportation and exceed 5,000
kilometres on the road and 15,000 kilometres by air.
