Windsurfing, surfing Cold Hawaii has it all
Klitmøller isn't the only spot in Cold Hawaii. Actually there's 29 registered windsurfing and surf spots on the west coast of Thisted Municipality - from the tip of Agger Tongue in the south to Hanstholm in the north.
This makes the area ideal for windsurfing and kitesurfing wave performance, first and foremost -- but the area is quite excellent for surfing.
No-one seems to know where the name Cold Hawaii came from. Now and again, people claim to have invented the name, but the truth is that nobody has been able to document it.
So the safest thing to say is that Cold Hawaii comes from the people: us - the surfers.
NYSTRUP CAMPING KLITMOLLER - COLD HAWAII - DENMARK
Nystrup Camping Klitmoller is located in the direct proximity of the famous seaside town of Klitmoller - also known as Cold Hawaii. This spot is renowed for its excellent wind and wave conditions, which make Klitmoller a mecca for surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers. The surf-lifestyle can be seen and felt all around the area, including the Nystrup Camping, which even has its own Surfer's village and the camp it typically full of all kind of surfers.
The Nystryp Camping is a spacious and well organized camping with numberd pitches. You can choose either a private pitch, surrounded by trees and bushes and thus separated from the neighbouring pitch or find a spot in a vast open ground, if you want to stay in the sun. The ground is grassy and very even and there are 2 service buildings for camping guests, including toilets, showers, an open kitchen, and a common living room with a comfortable place to hang out and socialize, play table tennis or watch TV. There is a playground for kids, a number of pedal cars which you tan enjoy free of charge, a mini golf court and a family of goats! One of the distict features of this camping site is the Surfers' village with Hobbit-style little huts and a place where you can dry your wetsuits comfortably.
The staff at the reception are very friendly. There is a small shop with fresh bread at the reception and you can also order breakfast there if you're too tired to cook after all that surfing craziness.
The wifi signal is OK, the internet is free of charge. The showers however are not. The service buildings, the toilets and showers are very clean and well maintained.
We spent 2 nights on this camping and we loved it! Our overall rating is 9 out of 10 stars.

Klitmøller is a Hotspot for people who love water sports. Surfer and kiter from all over Europe love this place because of the steady wind. “Cold Hawaii” is how this area is called by surfers from Europe – similar wind other temperature. The powerful waves of the northsea, the short distance to the Vandet Lake, a flat water are perfect also for beginners. Klitmøller is a paradise for water sports and it is surrounded of beautiful nature and best waves. This area is the perfect location for a sporty family who want to spent their holiday in a holiday home from Novasol. In the municipallity Thisted in North Jutland Klitmøller is situated and in the past till the 1980s it was only a small fisher village. But more surfers and kiters came here and today it is Europe´s most famous surf spot for sportsmen who do not fear the fresh water.Since 1990 th dansk masterships of surfing are distributed here. In addition Klitmøller is a destination of the Professional Windsurfers Association World Tour. Another argument for this beautiful nature is the national park Thy. It was the first national park of Denmark and here you can see protected plants like the “beach-thistle” while cranes and the Wood sandpiper are running or flying around. Klitmøller is also a perfect destination for trips for example to Skagen, where the streams of Skagerak and Kattegat crash into each other and the waves break in the middle of the Sea. Some people say that there is a very special light in this area especially in midsummer. This explains why so many artists like photographers or painters come to this region and most of the Copenhagen come here to spend their summer holidays in their summer houses. Here you can also find a rich offer of Novasol holiday homes, because nothing is more beautiful to fight against powerful waves by day while you are able to sit on front of your fireplace at night and relax and enjoy the silence. “The Klitmøller Resort is a fictional film and the resort does not exists as seen in the film. The surfing scenes are real and filmed around Klitmøller, Cold Hawaii. Despite the misleading clips, Klitmøller is a magical place in Denmark with good surf conditions, friendly people and beautiful nature.
