First Winter Backpacking Trip: Cold In the Canadian Rockies (On My Birthday!)
After years of telling myself I never would and never wanted to, I finally did; I went winter backpacking ... but boy did it get cold!!
In this video I hike to Point Backcountry Campground in Peter Lougheed Provincial Park in Alberta.
I've lived in Canada my whole life but I don't ski, snowboard, or skate. Basically, I barely move all winter long... at least that's the way I used to be. One day I told myself enough was enough and chose to embrace winter activities no matter the cost! And with that I began planning my first winter backpacking trip! 3 months for backpacking in the great Canadian Rockies is never long enough! If I want to camp, hike, backpack and get the most out of the Canadian wilderness I was going to have to embrace winter! And embrace it I did, all on my birthday!
Come join me as I hike to my first winter backcountry camping spot and spend the night warming myself by the camp fire, eating my favourite dessert, and testing out a hodgepodge sleep system to see if I can stay warm!
Long story short, I learnt a lot about winter backpacking from this experience, and I know there will be more ahead!
Keep Moving Forward!

GOOD MORNING AMERICA'S HOMEPAGE:
Lake Lovely Water - Is it Cold?
The pebbleshoo crew, Leigh and Spring, went on an adventure into the heart of Tantalus Provincial Park for nearly a week. We stopped at Lake Lovely Water for two nights before heading into the Alpine. We knew we'd be away from a body of water for a few days so we needed to take this opportunity to rinse off before heading higher where everything was frozen, in doing so we'd also answer the age old, but likely assumed known, question of: Is Lake Lovely Water cold?. Watch this video to find out!

Autumn feels like Winter in Northern Canada (CAUTION, Bear in Area!)
Cold Lake Provincial Park in mid Autumn with the lake starting to freeze over. Autumn feels like Winter in this part of the world. Encountered a bear at the park entrance.
It was a beautiful calm but cold day at -10 degrees Celsius and I was the only one at the park but there was a black bear close by finishing up preparing for the long winter.

Crimson Lake Provincial Park Camping | Journey Alberta
In this week's video I journey out to Crimson Lake Provincial Park, near Rocky Mountain House, to camp for a night with my girlfriend! It's my third camping trip in the last 3 weeks also! While there, we go and explore Twin Lakes, only a 5 minute drive away. Still in the provincial park, Twin Lakes was quite the sight, and I enjoyed walking on the boardwalks and docks. On our second day we venture down to the shores of Crimson Lake for a day at the beach!
