Wooler, Northumberland
There is much evidence of settlements throughout the area dating back to pre Bronze Age times and most hilltops have some sort of hill fortification.
The Roman period seems on the face of it to have had little impact on the area. Given Wooler's position almost midway between Hadrian's Wall and the Antonine Wall in Scotland it seems safe to assume that the area was at least visited by Roman troops from time to time.
Up to the beginning of 12th century Northumberland was ruled by a succession of earls first, Anglo-Saxon, then Danish and eventually Norman.

Stacey & Daryl had an amazing wedding at Middleton Hall with a big highlight being their Las Vegas themed casino entertainment for the guests in the evening which was such fun to photograph for them.

The Cheviot Hills, North Northumberland ©
These are just a few bits of video from an old camera on various walks which included Yeavering Bell, Eccles Cairn, the Border Ridge and College Valley. The video is an experiment for me as most of my videos are simple slide shows. The quality isn't very good as the video was shot on an old camera which I no longer use. It is just intended as an experiment which might help people interested in visiting or hiking in the Cheviot Hills and gives you some idea of what they are like at different times of year. Note there is not a person in sight throughout.
Wherever you go stay safe, check the weather, plan ahead, let people know where you are going, take maps & compass with your gps and follow the countryside code.

Atlantic salmon attempting to ascend Haughead Ford on the Wooler Water
Wooler Water, Northumberland, is a tributary of the River Till (itself a tributary of the River Tweed) and is included within the River Till Special Area of Conservation (SAC). There are significant pressures on the river physical river form and functioning within the Wooler Water, relating to a legacy of in-channel gravel extraction and extensive engineering over many decades. The ford at Haugh Head poses a significant obstacle to migratory fish such as Atlantic salmon, which are shown here attempting to ascend the ford in high flows. A river restoration plan has been developed, which includes actions to address this issue.

Wild Goats Of The Cheviot Hills. Northumberland.
While out on a hike up The Cheviot Hills in Northumberland I came across the wild feral herd of goats which roam these hills. Very hardy creatures to live up there but they seem to be thriving, two very lively youngsters were with this group. A fantastic sight.
Overnighter up past Ingram Valley. 27/28th Oct 2018
Turning my hand at tour-guiding again......showing Lezley from Lezley's Adventures around the top end of Ingram and the Linhope Estate.
We stayed overnight in a shooting lodge/refuge hut hidden well away in the hills.
It was a godsend with a bitingly cold wind & some of the first snow flurries of Autumn in The Cheviots that night.
If you know where this place is please keep it quiet. We left it exactly as we found it - clean and tidy, with no trace we'd been there. That's how it should be.
