530 Collins Street is an energy efficient premium grade office tower. The owners GPT Group have dramatically improved the building's efficiency through a range of measures including new chillers and an on-site cogeneration plant to generate gas fired electricity and use waste heat in the building.

Tenants nowadays want greener buildings; it makes a lot of economic sense to upgrade buildings to the highest sustainable ratings possible. That's why we retrofit. We are particularly proud of what we've achieved here at 530 Collins Street, because we've taken a twenty year old, premium grade building which was running at two and a half stars NABERS energy, and it has upgraded it to five stars NABERS energy. There is the architectural components, they upgraded lobbies and upgraded lifts and so on, but the really, really important work, is behind the scenes, the major changes we made were new chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and most importantly we added a co-generation plant to the building. What the co-generation plant does, it uses gas to both generate electricity for the building, and the excess heat from the plant is then used to heat the building as well as heat domestic hot water, so it's a very, very efficient use of gas energy coming in and being used within the building. We upgraded all the floors with T5 lighting, which almost halves the amount of energy consumed for lighting, but also significantly reduces the amount of heat given off to the air conditioning, so that's a win-win situation. By vesting as we have done, we are future-proofing this asset, there is absolutely no question that the money we've spent to green up this building will pay handsome dividends in years to come. Melbourne City's initiative in the '1200 Buildings' program is fantastic in my view, you know, here is a city council, taking the initiative to encourage property owners and support property owners in greening up existing portfolio stock. Ninety-nine per-cent of all the building stock is existing buildings, that's where we collectively can make the biggest difference.

The Grand Hyatt Melbourne hotel is a luxury 5 star hotel in Melbourne, Victoria. The hotel has 550 guest rooms and suites. The hotel is located at 123 Collins Street, in the of Melbourne’s CBD area and at the Paris end of Collins Street.
Collins Kitchen on the ground level serves up some delicious meals. In the video I show the some of the meals I ate, including Collin’s Kitchen menu. I also tried hotels in room dining. Again, fantastic food. Check the video for the Hyatt’s in room dining menu.
Do try the Grant Hyatt Melbourne’s fantastic buffet breakfast, one of the best in buffets in Melbourne. There is a huge selection of foods, both cold and hot.
For drinks try a beer or cocktail at Ru-Co Bar on the ground level.
Rooms start from the Grand King Room and go up to their Suite rooms that cost over $3,000. Rooms come with free Wi-Fi, fully stocked mini bar, climate controlled air conditioning, in room safe. The city views of Melbourne are wonderful but the rooms with the best views are river view ones. These give amazing views of the Yarra River and of Melbourne. Some of the best views from a hotel in Melbourne. The Club access rooms give access to the Grand Club Lounge on the 31st floor of the Hyatt. From here you can get amazing panoramic views of the Melbourne skyline. Best when the city lights come out. It’s a great place to chill out and unwind.
To get the best rates at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne, have a look at the hotel’s own website. When I checked on making this video the cheapest room rates were with World of Hyatt Members. These rates were around $20 dollars cheaper than the standard rates. Have a look at comparison booking sites such as TripAdvisor, Trivago.com and HotelCombined.com as well. I use Agoda and Bookings.com as well or depending on what site you may have points with.
Other facilities at the Grand Hyatt Melbourne include their 24 hour fully equipped state of the art fitness centre and outdoor tennis court.
In this travel video I review the hotel as well as compare it to some of Melbourne’s other top luxury hotels to see how it stacks up. For me I think the Grand Hyatt is a fantastic hotel to stay at. It is one of Melbourne’s best upmarket hotels and definitely worth looking at when you are looking at accommodation in Melbourne.
